  • @MatthewAtZenbeats It's pretty easy to get 'stuck keys' using the onscreen keyboard in ZenBets since the Dock can pop up when using the expressive features (swipe up) of the keyboard.

Consider enabling 'edge protection' in ZenBeats. (This is the default behavior in most iOS/iPadOS DAWs)
    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/46988469/how-to-enable-edge-protect-in-iphone-x

It affects all iOS/iPadOS devices not just the iPhone.

Does ZenBeats have a 'midi panic/all keys off' function?
Can't seem to find it so I have to quit ZenBeats and relaunch it to release the stuck keys.

I'm off to enjoy the new sounds of the ZC-1, hope to see it as an iPadOS/iOS AUv3 some day with fill editing capabilities ;)

    Cheers!

  • Version 2.0 is here !

  • Instabuy as soon as I get home.

    🇸🇪👊

  • It’s a bit confusing if you;already have AU and SampleVerse blocked as it states you paying for the AU and Sampleverse again if you already unlocked, you not as all still working. So basically ZC1 full version for £10. There is quite a lot of presets in the unlocked version to use.

I’m indeed confused. I already have V1 unlock. In that case is it just the ZC synth in V2?.
Is SampleVerse the same?. Bummed you can’t add more than one (user) sample to SampleVerse, would gladly pay just for that, but I’m assuming it’s the same SampleVerse.
Anything else besides the Synth?. Is the synth alone worth the price when you already own multiple other AUV3 synths?.

  • Hi @MatthewAtZenbeats
If I haven’t installed ZC1/Zenology on pc/mac do I register with the same information I used on iOS?
    Thanks!

  • Puzzled. I have the ultimate unlock for v1 - appears as though the v2 ultimate upgrade costs 50 points = c £50. Is this right?

Wow that sounds expensive. The v2 iOS unlock is only £10.

I would - 99% sure that any sound packs you buy become common across all systems if they are on the same account.

They may be compatibility across desktop, iOS versions of ZenBeats, but so far I can’t see packs in the store that are common with the cloud, but I believe Zenology Pro can export presets to ZC1 as well as Zenology hardware.

  • Hi,
I haven’t purchased v2 unlock yet. I asked if there was anything besides the ZC1 synth if you already owned V1 unlock. I’m guessing the synth is great, but...

I seem to be the only one disappointed with Zenbeats 2. There’s improvements like:

    • plug-in windows: really useful, nice option.
    • Loop handlebars in midi and audio are better and the snap actually snaps, a lot easier to set loop points.
    • Improved and direct access to a number of functions: quantize (a must), automation, track and fix from editor window, etc...
    • The splash loading screen (yes!)

To me that doesn’t qualify as a major upgrade. As I said I haven’t purchased ZC1 (v2 unlock). The only explanation I can think of for considering this a major upgrade is that ZC1 required a major rewrite of ZB under the hood to allocate it (I’m oblivious to zenology or what it means). From a ZB user standpoint it’s just an IAP synth.

I find it sort of disappointing because there’s not much new besides the aforementioned which are basically UX improvements. Nothing to get excited about. Hardly any “yes, at last!”.

What I certainly miss, these would have been some “yes!” moments for me.

    • audio editing (some at least).
    • choosing a track/send or internal output as an input for audio tracks (printing to audio)
    • Adding multiple files to SampleVerse: not recording, but existing files (alt method see point above). Crucial IMO.
    • Drag drop samples, loops from files app
    • being able to apply a track template to an existing audio track
    • Being able to merge midi and audio to a new file/seq

Am I the ZB grinch?. I guess I just don’t get it. Please prove me wrong

    Cheers!

  • Considering I took the opportunity and got the V1 unlock for free during Rolands pandemic-promo getting the V2 IAP with the ZC-1 synth is not such a bad deal after all. Loads of nice and pretty usable sounds in there.

There's 3 additional drum kits lurking in the ZC-1 synth which to me feel way more usable than the other supplied drum kits...
...only downside is the step sequencer that can be used for the drum kits can not be used for the synths.

I have no clue of how much under the hood fixes the update includes and there might even be preparations there for new features that get rolled out at somewhat regular intervals...

On the iPad Air 2 it's pretty heavy on the CPU but I can at least comfortably run 4 instances of ZC-1 :D

Some day I do hope the ZC-1 makes it into an AUv3 world with full editing capabilities!

  • I appear to already own the upgrade as I'm a pro subscriber

Agree about the Drums. Standard Kit sounds better than any of the drums in SampleVerse but it does need the Drum Editor to be available to make the most of it. Also there doesn't seem to be any way of knowing what drum you're playing other than by just listening to it!

The kits are mostly mapped to GeneralMidi so it's pretty easy to figure it out and those importing GM drum midi-files will have a suitable kit for those.

It's the same on most regular keyboard synths as well. It's not like the drum names are printed on the keys.

Then again it's nice to just 'play the keys', find the sounds and hit record not working if it's a quika or conga or whatever names some of the percussion sounds have :D

Not used Zen in a while I forgot how to duplicate or repeat Pattern ? Also forward/rewind transport?

I’m not sure if this is what you mean but you can route the midi from the drum sequencer to synths

Well, I just purchased the Roland Cloud Core subscription for $29.99 per year and now I have Zenbeats 2 Ultimate on my iPad (previously v1 unlock) and on my Mac (previously locked). If you really work a lot with Zenbeats I think it's the much better option than buying the unlock as it delivers the same value as buying Zenbeats Ultimate for $150. I just discovered today that this subscription also contains Zenbeats Ultimate:

    https://www.roland.com/us/promos/about_roland_cloud/membership/

I can't wait to finally be able to continue arrange my iPad tracks on the big screen of my Mac. I also just bought Studiomux and I'm so curious if I can get into a good workflow using the iPad synths on the Mac with Studiomux. Keep you posted.

So far I'm really delighted with the update.

Hey thanks - will try that!

  • Is it possible to get sounds out of Zenbeats on iOS in realtime? I can’t seem to see Zenbeats in Audiobus or AUM as an IAA.

the "core" plan is tempting. Is there full list of what it's included? On this page is a general comparison. What is included in Lifetime keys??

Nope , export audio only .

My resolve lasted about 10 seconds. Did the full unlock. Sounds are fantastic. Everything you need. Probably the best 'Rompler' on iOS now

Just wish we could use more than one effects at a time, but yeah, I do like what I’m hearing from it

Been messing around with some of the Overdriven/Distorted Amped Guitar Sounds. Very impressive when played with Velocity Keyboard. Sound far more convincing than anything else I've heard on iOS for Rythmm Guitar parts to me (GeoShred is great for Lead Guitars). Should work really well with the next version of Tonality which supports Virtual Strumming!

It's always possible to add additional effects to the track when needed.
(Kinda enjoy the classic D-50'esque sounds thru some Eventide effects).

  • Zenbeats is the only iOS daw that I never managed To learn😂😂😂shoul I buy v2 upgrade and jump in?

Depends very much on your preferred workflow - linear or loops?

I don’t know when subscription expires if you are able to keep the unlock . On Zenbeats it’s unlimited . But still it’s totally worth it for the ultimate package.

As for studiomux I think it’s reported broken on iOS 14 .

  • So...... I have been away from music for a bit.... (depression sucks). Anyway help me out here please. I bought the iOS pack as I canceled my roland cloud a few months ago. Is it just me or does this new synth sound so sterile? It seem all patches sound the same. Almost all the same timbre?

  • @MAtrixplan said:

Funny, I bought Core but now I'm on Ultimate. Probably just a time limited upgrade so you can check out everything. Anyway, but therefore ATM everything is unlocked for me in the Roland Cloud Manager. But as far as I can see what is available in Core is the Zenology synth and all its sound packs. A bit more details here:

    https://www.rolandcloud.com/roland-account/memberships/

Zenology has very cool features and countless presets, but it's Windows or Mac only. On iOS in Zenbeats 2.0 there is ZC1 which seems to be a preset synth based on ZEN-Core - the synth engine of Zenology.

    https://www.roland.com/us/products/rc_zenbeats/

ZC1 is a new plug-in synthesizer using Roland’s ZEN-Core Synthesis System. Available in Zenbeats as a free instrument, ZC1 has 60 presets and a sleek touch-based interface. Use the XY pad for Resonance and Cutoff or other parameters. Plus, unlock ZC1 to share sounds with ZENOLOGY and ZEN-Core-compatible hardware and get around 900 additional preset tones and 90 built-in MFX effects. These sounds cover a wide range from acoustic and electronic to ethnic instruments.

Well, I noticed that ZC1 has got a function to import SVZ files. This might be for Zenology patches and this is probably the mentioned sound sharing with Zenology. I will check that out. If this is true that means that a Roland Cloud Core subscription would enable you to create patches on the desktop with Zenology and then use them on the iPad with ZC1.

What is included in Lifetime keys??

Lifetime keys just means that you can buy lifetime keys, but that's also a 'feature' of the free plan - basically it just means you must have a Roland Cloud account to buy a key.
