Also I cannot find a way of getting triplets in the step sequencer, changing time signature does not seem to affect the step grid.

Hold on the first step of the grid and drag right, it'll double or triple each step depending on how far you drag, then delete the steps you don't want.

Quick question for @MatthewAtZenbeats or any of the Zenbeats gurus here: is there an easy way to get wav files saved in AudioShare into the app? I can get the DOS-style folder hierarchy to open up in an Audio track by a long press, but a) it’s illegible on an iPad in dark mode and b) I have no idea what folder I’m supposed to be pathing to. Any help appreciated. As per my original comment further up the thread, the ideal would be drag and drop from the Files app.

You can use the files app to copy from AudioShare into On My Device > Zenbeats > Zenbeats User > Audio Samples. You can copy whole folders, and when you do, you can get to them quickly with the drop down box in the file picker. They’ll be listed as User:folder. I think maybe only one level deep though. I forget.

  • Ok messing around with this again..... did the glue feature go away??? I have multiple loops that i have broken up and want to glue them together? It’s an audio sample.

There’s no way to preview files that are not already imported when using the “import from folder” function. So you don’t know what you are actually going to import prior.

I know its a bit hacky but since I have now Ultimate I did experiment with working on my project on the iPad and on my laptop. And I think finally I found a great solution for browsing samples. I'm quite pleased how the loopcloud plugins work together with Zenbeats. I have all my audio files on my laptop managed with loopcloud. So loopcloud comes with AU or VST plugins that you can add to your project. When you browse samples in loopcloud then they are played back in Zenbeats with the plugin and is automatically adjusted to the tempo set in Zenbeats. When you found a match you can drag and drop it from loopcloud to Zenbeats and it is added as an audio track.

So basically I freeze all my synth tracks beforehand then transferring the project to Zenbeats on my laptop. Then adding some audio files and then transfer the project back to my iPad.

You can drag & drop files from an Auv3 to ZB?. Wow. Didn't know that.
But loopcloud will be limited for loops. If you can and drop from a plugin... There should be a plugin that can serve as a "file transfer". So you could (theoretically drag & drop from files to that auv3 and from that auv3 to the host). Right?. Universal management.

@MatthewAtZenbeats will it be, or is it, possible to edit sounds on the MC101 using Zenbeats 2.0?

For example, could I create a program/sound/patch then send it to the MC101 via USB, then use that sound on the MC101 when away from Zenbeats? Would it be possible to edit a sound on the MC101 via Zenbeats while it is plugged in to the iPad?

    Thanks in advance!

For patch sharing, short answer yes. Today with ZC1 it is only possible to import and export a SVZ file that can be loaded on to any ZEN-Core based hardware. The MC-101 should be able to import the SVZ via the SD card. To do this, make the SVZ using ZC1, then connect your MC-101 in storage mode and copy the SVZ file to the device for import.

If you want more powerful editing capabilities, check out the full ZEN-Core engine using Zenology Pro on macOS and Windows.

@MatthewAtZenbeats : hi, sure this has been mentioned already, but are you planning on adding file drag and drop direct from the Files app into a Zenbeats audio track any time soon? That would get me to jump ship from Cubasis for sure, as there is a lot I like about this. (Thinking seriously of springing for the Ultimate Unlock to use it on my MBP and PC too, in fact...)

Will look into better FIles app support. Thanks for the suggestion!

With AudioShare or better Files.app integration you could listen to loops/samples in advance. Drag and drop would be the way to go.

I'll need to look into this more. In no case should you see DOS-style browser on iOS. Contact me via PM and I can help take a look at the issue sometime early next week.

Really enjoying the inclusion of Zencore in 2.0. Great work from you and the team @MatthewAtZenbeats Looking forward to where you will take us.

Here’s a little groove i made using the new Zencore synth for all tracks with exception of drums:

This is great, really dig it! Thank you for sharing this and yes, this is just the start of things! Stay tuned!

Puzzled. I have the ultimate unlock for v1 - appears as though the v2 ultimate upgrade costs 50 points = c £50. Is this right?

See above for more details but that is correct. IF you have any specific questions or concerns, PM me

Thanks @MatthewAtZenbeats . No need - I just wanted to check the price. I’ve upgraded to ultimate v2 - while the subscription has appeal, I prefer to not feel as though I’ll lose anything when I inevitably cancel the subscription. Given how much Zenbeats has improved since Stagelight, I am very happy to continue my support. I can’t overstate the usefulness of being able to start an idea on a mobile device and then continue it on a PC; the built-in sounds are perfectly adequate for such sketching, so long as I remember not to use any AUv3s (spent far too long reassigning AUs on a Mac to an AUv3-laden iPad project). Now I use everything built-in on mobile, then assign the final plugins on the Mac.

    I use Zenbeats daily.

  • @MatthewAtZenbeats Matthew, thank you so much for your response.

You know the next question: do you know if the full Zen-core engine, or Zenology Pro itself, will be made available on iOS? 😊 I am sure you can imagine how powerful, flexible, and convenient that would be for MC-101 and MC-707 owners.

  • Is there any easy way to quantize 'note lengths' to fit the grid?

Ie. if I accidentally record very short note events and wish to extend them to 1/16 or 1/8 etc or the opposite shorten down 1/16 events to 1/32 or even 1/64?

I know there's a way to select the events and adjust their length but they don't 'snap to the grid' when adjusting the length.
Cubasis has an option to 'Quantize Note Ends' which very handy to 'clean up' recorded events that vary in lenght.

I guess the answer is yes and is probably right in front of me but I'm too 'blind' to see it...

You simply have to enable snap :)

Notes can have different size than the Grid ;)

Thanks, most of the time when I edit in Logic I just adjust the grid-size and the events 'smart snap' to it when changing them.

I've just been playing around with drawing automation for AUv3's...
...I just prefer to draw my automation instead of recording it.

ZenBeats has come a long way since initial release/rebranding :D

Expand the tool panel on the left. There are pretty decent quantize and nudge options there.

I’ve noted those, but the there is no way to make the ‘end’ knob snap to grid :(

I don’t think there ever was a glue option for audio samples, only for midi clips.

  • Another Gotcha?

Is there no way to ‘draw’ the velocity of note events to create volume ramps up and down?
There’s this knob to adjust velocity but it adjust velocity for all selected notes...

  • wimwim
    edited September 2020

Yeh, I think it has to be done note by note. Lots of apps are like this though. I guess it’s because velocity is sent as part of the note-on message and not like a continuous controller. Definitely inconvenient though.

  • I had a good play with the ZC1 sounds in the free version tonight and while there were some really good ones (some of the solo orchestral sounds were very good), there were quite a few generic “meh” sounds too. I’d certainly go for it at £10 if it were an AUv3, or if it were more editable, but it’s tied to Zen Beats which is not my DAW of choice. So on balance I’m probably going to channel my funds elsewhere, at least for now. Roland have had their fair share from me in the past 40-odd years on various hardware!

  • edited September 2020

Wrapup after two days of playing with 2.0:

I am still overjoyed just playing around with ZC1, and what the intro of the Zencore engine will lead to in the future from the side of Roland. No, this is not ”just another synth” in ZB, this is one of the three largest, most prominent and successful companies in the electronic music history making its REAL entry into the iOS world of music making and production. The sound quality is second to none, and I dare to say the acoustic tones are among the best or most likely THE best today on iOS.

There are so many more talented people than me asking for detailed changes in the functions or UI so I am sure we will see very useful updates coming to ZB.

As always, we as a community, are very thankful for your presence and respect for our many times horizonless wishes @MatthewAtZenbeats! Thank you and thank you to the developing team!
    👏👏👏

The only things I would like to add is a double-tap function on all controllers to set them back to their default value again. @Samu asked for all 3000+ sounds of the MC 101/707 as IAPs and a full blown Zencore Pro engine. Ofc I second that, it would blow most of the synths we have had so far on iOS totally out of the water IMHO. Let the Mac/PC world take care of the first waves of changes and stuff, then port the PRO version to iOS please😊.

Me a Roland fanboy (man?) at the moment? Nooooooo😁😁😁😁.....

Now as @jakoB_haQ says, go finger your stuff and show what can be done with this great update!

    Stay safe!❤️🇸🇪

  • I’ve bought the V2 unlock having certainly had £10 of value from the free offer on the V1 unlock.

ZC-1 is I feel very much a hint of bigger promise at this point, but I’m sure I will find more gems in the presets (VP-330 choir already located!) I’m a little disappointed no drum kits are part of the unlock content, hopefully more of the Zenology content will arrive as packs? I’m looking forward to see how this develops...

@MatthewAtZenbeats for those of us tight on storage it will be nice if as much download content as possible were optional and didn’t download automatically. After the update some content I’d previously removed downloaded automatically again.

  • Do you guys have idea if it is possible to copy a complete part from the loop builder into the timeline view?
I can copy loops track by track but I wouldn’t call it efficent way.

The 3 drum kits in ZC1 are pretty darn good and way more articulate with good velocity response compared to the 'regular' drum kits...

And yepp, lots of very nice patches inside ZC1. Now that one of my all time favorite D-50 patches (Staccato Heaven ) is in there I hope 'Shamus Theme' and 'Nightmare' will make it to one of the future updates ;)

So far I'm really liking the V2 update!
(But it ain't no BeatMaker 3 yet when it comes to sampling and a flexible sampler is a pretty important function for me).

If ZenBeats evolves at the current phase we're in for quite a few treats in 2021 :D

No, loopcloud is a desktop application it just utilizes its plugins to integrate with the DAWs. There are actually three different plugin. A loop player, a sample player and a drum machine. All of them get their contents from the loopcloud app. Bottom line: the plugins play back sounds as instruments in the DAW but the audio files are handled by the desktop app.

But loopcloud will be limited for loops. If you can and drop from a plugin... There should be a plugin that can serve as a "file transfer". So you could (theoretically drag & drop from files to that auv3 and from that auv3 to the host). Right?. Universal management.

It‘s not only loops but mostly. There are also samples and drumkits. The file transfer is simply done by dragging and dropping an audio file from the loopcloud app window into an audio track of Zenbeats.

Wish I would have such functionality on my iPad

  • I just got the V2 unlock. I haven’t done it for the ZC-1 synth, and that’s basically all I’m getting.
I’ve done it to support the developers of ZB. I realized I was requesting features, @MatthewAtZenbeats was addressing my requests and I hadn’t spend a euro on Zenbeats. That really sucks.
NOW I’m a costumer. I hope I like ZC-1 but I really don’t need another synth, I do want this app to be successful so they keep improving it and hopefully the issues that really matter to me are addressed.
This iOS app ecosystem is a great thing. Don’t know how long it’ll last with the current affordable pricing, but we all need to chip in.
    Kudos ZB.

  • Trying out the fx on ZC-1 and they’re good.
Question... How come the effects on ZC-1 cannot be used standalone?. I just did an A/B and, for instance, I prefer the tape delay on the ZC-1 Mfx section to the ZB Delay plugin. There’s also the amp sims that seem rather useful...
Is it something rato do with Zencore?. Like the fx are not just processing audio but involved in a different manner, and thus cannot be used outside Zencore “domain”. That would explain it, I wish they could be used for other tracks.

  • Just an observation but the only way to clear out the temp files (/Zenbeats/Zenbeats User/temp/) seems to be to take a trip to the files.app and delete them manually...
