  • @Brain, the update was released today, sounds weird :)

  • @supadom, I confirm the issue with BM2 sync. Gotta find the cause now...

  • edited February 2014

@syrupcore, got it up and running with Funkbox without issues (using both Xynthesizr virtual output or Funkbox virtual input).

Can you post screenshots of both Xynthesizr and Funkbox MIDI settings?

  • @Brain, does the update show up in the Updates section of the App Store app?

  • Great update. I recorded this running alongside ielectribe and the timing was spot on throughout. Unfortunately I electribe recorded clipping so here's Xynthesizr track only.

First, I'll just try harder now that I know it's possible. :) Thanks for giving it a go.

No plans for this as of now. I suppose there already are apps better suited for this task, I don't know for sure though. :)

I'm not aware of any that combine your feature set with a song mode. Maybe one of those Amidio apps? I have the one with the grid and all the fancy lights. Didn't connect with it at all.

    .

  • Can this be used as a controller for GarageBand because I can't seem to get that to work. Or do I need something like Midibridge to get that to work? Would love to sequence all of GarageBand instruments with this.

  • Got it to work with Funkbox, thanks for the virtual port tip.

Been using MIDI since 1987. iOS MIDI still confuses me. I had Funkbox selected in Xynthesizer's Destinations Clock Out but had to select 'Virtual Output' for it to work. Even though Funkbox had Xynthesizer clock selected for Core MIDI input and clock set to off for it's virtual input ports. (See attached... This didn't work but thought it would.) Maybe I need to stop assuming I understand MIDI and read up some more on iOS MIDI. cc: @sebastian, counting on you guys. :)

Love this app and the sounds it's making. The synth and the effects sound terrific.

Spent a few hours with this tonight. Other than bringing my phone to its knees a few times (not alone but when controlling sunrizer xs+funkbox+audiobus+any output app = sonic crumble!) I had a total blast. Thanks for all this work. I think one of the things the grid sorta hides is just how good the synth sounds.

A few requests for your consideration after a night of messing with it:

    1) shift pattern left and right. When syncing with other apps, particular beats, the 'one' in the loop becomes apparent. I spent a lot of time manually moving it around.

    2) Record the audio.. and the MIDI! What interesting with this app is that it's possible to never get the same midi output again when using the life modes which makes capturing a little more valuable.

    3) AB panel [Play] button

    4) A way to set the life permutations to happen for a fixed length (say 1-4 loop cycles) and then snap back to the original. It would introduce variations but stay grounded in the original. I did this manually for a bit tonight by saving a song and using the sweet ass load-while-playing feature.

    5) If you ever decide to do a song/chain mode, it would just about rule if each step in the song could have different life settings, each based on the original pattern - not the previous played step. An automated take on 4)

if there is a dedicated ipad version...
    1) note names
    2) per step velocity

I don't need any of this stuff - I had a grand time with your app tonight. Just thoughts. Thanks again!

  • @supadom, cool!

Would love to hear some more and with drums :)

  • @Simon, thanks! Very good point about reviews - really appreciate that :)

  • @Paulyboy69, I don't know yet as I've never really used GarageBand on an iPad. I'll check that.

  • @Yuri Here's a quick one with xynthesizr controlling Drumjam.

I like the app. On iPad4, the display is too slow. Probably because of the higher screen resolution. On iPad2 it's fine.

Nice MIDI multichannel option, this is great. I simply wasn't able to send notes to another app. Does it work?

I have an iPad 4 and I'm not noticing any display slowness. Can you please elaborate?

  • @syrupcore, thank you!

I frankly don't know about song-mode apps myself, so this is research to be done :)

iOS virtual MIDI is pretty simple once you get the idea.
Basically, you have two ways of setting up a connection. You can either make the sending app output to its virtual output port and tell the receiving app to grab from there, or make the sending app output to the virtual input port of the receiving app and make sure the receiving app has this port enabled.

Thanks for your suggestions, this is valueable! Definitely something to think about. A couple of things I can say right away:
    (2) Audio recording is already there
    (3) A must
    (4) Nice idea, although not very useable with Life-like cellular automata, because they are not stochastic, and unless you manually mess with the pattern, the cycle will repeat in exactly the same way. The stochastic algorithm (the 'RND' thing) is OK though.

    Thanks again!

  • @mgmg4871, thanks! This one is nice :)

  • @Phil999, this seems strange.

Some of the beta testers have run Xynthesizr on iPad 4 and even iPad 3, which is slower, and nobody has reported any issues like that.

    Can you please elaborate?

  • @Phil999, regarding your problems with MIDI, it should work, I haven't yet heard of any issues with sending notes.

Please post screenshots of both Xynthesizr and the receiving app MIDI settings, so that I can help you to resolve this problem.

  • Sweet! Great results right off from start, I really like this! Nice job, I had this and deleted to make room for ios 7 but I am really glad I now have it again.

  • I can not seem to chnge the number of steps nor can I unlock additional scales. Says i need to connect to the internet except I am connected already?

  • @Tritonman2, thanks!

I guess you've just re-downloaded version 1.0 and now you need to install the update from the App Store app. Version 1.1 has no IAPs hence no locked scales.

@YuriT, thanks for the replies. Just a note that 2) was about recording MIDI with the current audio recording.

Perhaps a way to make 4) more interesting (mutate and snap back after N cycles) would be to allow a range on the "chance" and "strength" controls that the app picked randomly from after each snap back. And yes, I guess I'm think of the RND type here vs the cellular automation.

  • Audiobus in the future?

  • Should also note that after doing a hard reset on my phone (4s) I was able to get the Xynthesizr + Funkbox + Sunrizer XS > AB > Multitrack DAW setup working just fine. Also had to reduce Sunrizer's polyphony.

@YuriT, mind me asking what your logo font is? It's delicious. Actually, all of the fonts are just great. How come some people can make synths and make pretty? Not fair.

  • @Tritonman2, compatible with Audiobus since the initial release ;)

Have you managed to resolve your problem?

    Audiobus in the future?

    It's already on the bus

  • edited February 2014

    @syrupcore, thanks!

    (2) I thought you were talking about recording MIDI and audio separately. Now I think I understand your suggestion :)

I guess there should be apps capable of recording input MIDI. Just an idea of what you can do about it now.

    (4) Imagining how to do that without overcomplicating things scares me a bit :)

Glad you worked it out on the 4S.

    That font is Oswald.
    :D

  • I have not tried audiobus but yes the update did the trick. Thanks, what a nice app!
