Holy crap, just checked out her newest single release and it's really, really good, way better than the previous album.

That's a plain good song, lyrics, and performance

    You kids and The Spotify

Sorry, I thought that was the norm. I figured everybody has Spotify. But I guess theres the Apple and Google versions

    Totally normal.

  • I love almost all of the latest album. And I think the bedroom talk is interesting: Eilish’s vocals are very crooner-y, close up to the mic, and soft.

I wonder if this is because they started out recording in a bedroom? I certainly don’t want to sing loud when recording at home.

  • What I like is the sparseness of the record. And also, you can always tell a sibling connection: they quickly go into left field and make weird decisions that don't obviously help "build the brand."

I hope she survives the overhyping that comes with a big Grammy rush.

I’m getting Fiona Apple vibes which is cool. I like gloom with a bit of snark.

You certainly do... I want to hear an iPad Tenor Trio and a Mac as Falstaff. (Belch).

Not bringing this up to re-start a flame war, but I just really wanted to +1 this.

For anyone genuinely curious or newly interested in her after the grammys, I totally agree that her newest song “everything I wanted” is an accessible and beautiful song. In my opinion, her very best yet. 🙂

  • Her very first song, recorded when she was 13 years old is also pretty awesome. Her brother Finneas wrote it, aged 17:

  • And a non-Spotify link for Everything I Wanted:

  • Genuine talent:

  • Like her (I do) or dislike her - that was brilliant. To match Alicia Keys all the way is some going. Genuine!
    Thanks for posting.

    Very good.

Now, I'm not IN ANY WAY suggesting a comparison between Billie Eilish and the Beatles, uh.... But what certainly saved the Beatles (and the early Rolling Stones) was the pressure to keep putting out songs and keep writing all the time.

It would have been very easy for her to essentially kick back and phone it in. She has a nice voice and is attractive and has a machine behind her now; it would be frictionless to just punch a clock and put out acceptable pap.

Or worse, she could in her new free time believe her hype. (Is it any wonder that My Bloody Valentine and Neutral Milk Hotel TOTALLY froze for years after being told they released generation-defining records?)

    This is encouraging.

My eldest played some of the album for me before it got huge. We all loved it in the house! I said at the time, I love how you instantly know it's her with each song and that she reminded me of Lorde in that regard. I found that video of the two of them in the studio chatting fascinating and delightful. Hope she has a long career and that the music industry is kind to the both of them.

She has already disclosed that she had thoughts of suicide as recently as 1 year ago.
So, she's navigating fame with the help of her family.

Are you going to take your horse to the old town road
And ride 'til you can't no more?

(Well, if that's the case then I can save you the trouble because that road also leads to the Grammys...)

  • For those that might be interested - this Saturday nights Austin City Limits show on PBS will be airing a Billie Eilish performance. I'm looking forward to watching - I think she's great!!

Thanks to this thread I actually bothered to listen to some Billie Eilish and I like it. And thanks to the absolutely half-witted comments of @LucidMusicInc I also introduced it to my daughters, because if it makes someone that stupid that angry then she's obviously doing something good. They liked it too.

  • is this thread still about billie or are we talking about drambo now

  • Why is every single YouTube music production video about Billie Eilish at the moment?? Is everyone truly rapt by this conversation or is it just another rush for views/ad revenue? (Bit of both, I know....).

  • Whoa. What happened to @LucidMusicInc in this thread?? Just getting caught up. So after 4 years on the forum and over 2000 posts it is the subject of Billie Eilish that does him in. Crazy.

  • What would you prefer to listen to?

    1. Billie Eilish or Skinni Puppy ?
    2. Billie Eilish or Orbital ?
    3. Billie Eilish or Slayer ?
    4. Billie Eilish or NWA ?
    5. Billie Eilish or Infected Mushroom ?

Well, you could just replace the words Billie Eilish with the words Pop Music in that list, I guess.

  • Clearly, you have to choose and never look back
