@LucidMusicInc represents a group of people that have aggressive feelings about what is and what is are acceptable public behaviors. It's usually tied to a religious belief system that's offended by sexual and life style choices. They also prefer to legislate morality to

I didn’t know who this girl was until Mr. @McD brought this stuff into my radar. Sure my brain had already acknowledged her music ( you know, public spaces and music airing and stuff you can’t control) but I really dislike this kind of music as I did as teenager with WAM and A-ha and of course Madonna amongst others. I was more about The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, The (Southern Dead) Cult (and many others) and ultimately I derived to metal in love with the sheer power of the guitars and drums and most of all the voices of people like the mighty Dio, and also Bruce Dickinson you get the picture. At the same time I bought first hand blinded eyes, De La Soul’s 3 Feet High And Rising vinil in a time that in my country literally no one knew about them, hip hop rap or any related material. Common young people of course. It was fucking alien I must tell you. But I was thirsty. I still am. But I generally run away from mainstream (pop) music as the Devil runs from the cross.
I digress as hell, sorry so I’m just gonna post a video from two wonderful brothers that do versions in funny ways of well known music. This one is the only way I really like Billie Eilish’s song(s). “Bad Guy”
Ps: the fact I dislike some music don’t make me a hater. Let them be. No problem at all. My only problem is with “soup-nazis” like the one that got kicked in the ass out of this wonderful forum. Mother-beeeep.

I still haven't listened to any of her music except for 2 tunes on SNL and the short segments
in the YouTube Videos. I was hoping we'd get into Studio Techniques but we polarized around the "face" of a musician production and performing business. All the baggage of what we value came to dominate the conversation. Logic Pro X just looks like it's awesome but I expect ~$2,000 in Plug-ins are on his iMac. So, for ~$2,200 you can make a commercial quality recording. Music = FREE to create and publish.
I like Venn diagrams that show how "sets" (i.e. groups) different and are like other groups.
Of course, how the groups are defined make them useless for something truly complex.
There's a group some might call "Haters" and I think the category exists. For me it's someone that's so deep into a POV that they get ruthlessly, aggressive, defensive or worse that cannot be contained with rules, logic, or well considered argument.

Ok, I’ve reached my limit on English man, please go easy on me I’m just a Latin (the ones from Europe) using the hell out of the magic translator on this thing in my hands and I can’t keep the pace. I have never considered myself part of a group wearing appropriate clothing and symbols I just tried to give a tiny portrait of my musical listening background. No hater in the sense I don’t hate a person because I don’t like the music she/he makes.

I would recommend listening to “bury a friend” and “see me in a crown” by Billie. If you don’t think there’s some Cure influence in there, your ears need a rinse.
See, I think the older folks here read/hear “Pop” and think of Bubblegum Pop because for a long time, that’s all there was. Then Hip-Hop and R&B started coming into Pop world. Now you have some weird New Wave Alt Post-Punk stuff happening in the Pop world. It’s pretty awesome.
Also, I need to give credit where credit is due. I don’t think Billie would be where she is if Twenty One Pilots hadn’t been so big. I think they were Gen Z’s first major experience with Alt Pop.
Billie Eilish doesn't sound anything like Wham or Madonna, she's much closer (in spirit) to The Cure or even the Sisters Of Mercy, although soundwise I would say she is closer to Mezzanine-era Massive Attack - that's precisely why people are so excited about her. If you really think she sounds like Wham then you must be listening to a different Billie Eilish to the one I know.
I only knew her name from casting shows, when participants wanted to perform a BE song.
@richardyot Your video links were totally convincing. Of course... Ocean Eyes features exactly my preferred style of mix, in particular the vocal displacements on dedicated reverb channels and the non-loudness focussed approach.
Not everything must be loud to be cool... live has so many facettes.
One of my biggest (personal) faults was ignoring tracks because they scored in Top of the Pops when I was younger. Plain arrogance...
I have to apologise to @McD, look what I’ve done. Everybody keeps skipping the discussion you’re trying to bring to the table 😔. And no, even if I could stay up all night I would never be famous by the age of 18. I just don’t have the talent. And I didn’t work on Disney channel when a teen.😎

I didn’t say Billie sounds like Madonna or Wham, if you read again you’ll see that I’m talking about my tastes and reactions to mainstream pop when a teenager and now also. And I’ll fallow the above recommendations to see if I find that “The Cure” influences. About bubblegum pop, it’s continuously coming out every year and not a thing of the past. And I don’t like it. I hope I don’t get another fine for that😉.
Once again I emphasise the fact that I’m from another point of the globe so my influences and background are substantially different from yours and the Grammy awards are almost a synonym of bad music. I know, I know Yo-Yo Ma, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Ella Fitzgerald and many others greats won the award but the last decade at least... Skrillex for God sake!
That one is an universal thing, I think. Fortunately I’m very elastic and am able to revisit and revise all kind of things that once I disliked when was younger and dumber. The day before I’m always younger than the day after so who knows if I’ll become a Billie’s fan sooner than later.
It's OK. Finneas uses a desktop with Logic Pro and dozens of plugins.
If anyone make a Grammy album on an iPad I'm sure they would not tell a soul.
The engineers and producers also vote on these awards.
We haven't toughed on the merits of the album as a product of the recording arts.

I haven't really listened to any Billie Eilish (yet). I have an eight year old daughter so expect to be bombarded with new music anytime soon.
But The Cure, Sisters, Massive Attack? All good in my book. Will need to give her a listen.
From the little I know and watched in the video there’s no magic tricks or out of this world recording talent. I’ve seen as you all surely did many others using the exact same techniques like sampling and using a desktop with Logic Pro or Live or whatever in a bedroom or living room and stitching ideas they had during vacations or at school. I believe it’s a mixture of things like talent, of course (she has a gorgeous voice and a skilled brother), opportunity and timing. And luck. I think it happens to all artists. Surely it helps having enough money to have a house with desktops, guitars and all the necessary gear. If one lives in a shack nearby a dump with dirt and plastic bags to play with will have a hard time to win a Grammy.
I hope I’m on topic with this one.
@Callaeci yes, you're right - there seems nothing extraordinary in Finneas' record/mix setup, at least not imh ears. No big budget required - but it's not of the cheapo kind either.
The main 'trick' is to select from the palette, to pick the right stuff... and withstand temptation to add this and that and yet another 'goodie'.
Keep it lean and solid - but most import: have an idea of the track's atmosphere before you start to mix it and stick to that plan.
