I can't seem to get sync with IAA either. Anyone else having luck with it? I'm using Auria. This is not midi.
Stop/start also doesn't appear to work for me in this configuration.
Where is tap tempo? Am I missing it or is it not in this beat app?
@boone51 In 4/4 time just type 16 in subdivision. What you see now is 16 beats in a measure. If you tap right arrow, it will take you to 2 measure of 16 beats. The tempo can be set by tapping BPM on main page and typing it in, or on song page by typing or dragging slider.
You have to use MIDI clock to get sync in either IAA or Audiobus mode.

I just tried this and you only get one measure of drums not two. Each beat has sixteen divisions but you only get 4 beats (one measure)
I thought the subdivision was to get quarter, eighth or sixteenth note subdivisions inside of each beat?

This. This is true. Only one measure is pretty limiting for me. None of my beats are contained to one measure, so laying them out is a little cumbersome like this for me
For the midi clock thing, that's just not right on a lot of levels. One, midi clock is atrocious. And two, IAA has a perfect sync built right into it. I'm sure it's an easy fix, but for me right now this is broken.
Have you tried typing in 8/16? or 32/16?
I haven't got this app yet, so it's hard for me to visualize, but it sounds like it should work.
@Wayni: you can audition samples from the sample select screen as follows. Take an empty pattern, program a few beats with the desired instrument, start play, goto edit, select a sample. Then, you will be able to audition every sample in the list by touching it. Note also, that from the same sample select screen, a whole soundbank can be filled quickly by stepping through the sample slots (<, >), followed by touching the desired sample.
With respect to the song pointer: suppose the sync host would count 4/4 measures and DP is set to 32/4. Then, 4 measures of the host would match the full pattern in DP. So, e.g. the start of the third measure at the host will be halfway the pattern.
As for the midi clock thing...I see so much posted about this...it might even be the most requested, the most talked about, the most complained about, issue on the forum at the moment. Is there any app that does it right? Is it at all possible on IOS? because I'm beginning to get the impression that it isn't. But, I don't do much midi...
For an example of a complete MIDI implementation, look at DrumJam. You can set whether clock and/or notes are sent and/or received, to and from every source and destination it can see, and set the channel for both in and out.

Hey, no worries, I actually agree with you. If every app did everything everyone could ever want an app to do... We'd only have one giant do-all app, and that would be ridiculous.
I should have been more clear in what I was asking.
The app description says "for electronic music", but then reading on it only talks about styles like blues and jazz etc. this was confusing, so I was most curious about the sample sets and the mechanics of the app, so I asked about audio examples, hoping to hear in action and be able to answer my own questions about the app.
The 5 or so posts after yours pretty much hit the nail on the head of where I was coming from.
That said, now seeing that one can import their own samples, it is much clearer that this app is about adding human rhythmic feel to your beat tracks... regardless of genre or style.
That's awesome.
@boone51: did you make the following settings:
1. Menu->settings->midi->send clock to DrumPerfect
2. Menu->settings->midi->send midi start and stop
3. Menu->settings->midi->send midi song position pointer
4. Turn on Midiclock sync in DrumPerfect
Now, DP must sync as a slave to Auria.
@boone51 Sorry I used measure in post, where it should have been beat. To complete a 2 measure beat, use 2 patterns.
What is the max duration of the custom samples?
I find I use Drummer alot in Logic and DrumPerfect seems like it covers similar ground. Can anyone comment on the comparison? If you can import your own samples and not just percussion samples, it could get interesting...
Thanks @Marinus. I must have read the manual incorrectly.
It would be nice to label the patterns as verse, chorus etc. I can see where this would be very helpful during the course of song creation.
@boone51: I would set the time signature of the pattern to 16/4 (16 beats in pattern, beat is 1/4) and bpm to 120 (1/4 notes per minute). Subdivision (subbeats in beat) can be set to anything between 1 and 16 depending on if you need 1/8, 1/16 etc. It's up to you if you would interpret such pattern as 4 4/4 measures or a single 16/4 measure. Does this answer your question?
@skogredd: maximum sample duration is currently 10 s. Automatic fade out will be applied if original sample is longer.
Sounds good, thanks.

THATS IT! Perfect! Thanks so much @Marinus. Kind of feel stupid for not realizing this before.
Thanks also to Morris and others for their suggestions.
As far as the midi clock thing, it's my understanding that IAA doesn't need to use midi clock. In fact, I've been told NOT to use midi clock in other apps while syncing via IAA. I don't think midi clock and IAA clock are one in the same.
I should say that the app itself is intimidatingly powerful. It's a great start to what will surely mature into an app worthy of its namesake.
Nice work, @Marinus.
@boone51 Marinus 16/4 time sig definitely makes more sense than my suggestion. I checked it out and it's perfect for what you're looking for.
Added some piano chords, but I'm not hearing them in patterns. I audio copied from AudioShare, where they sounded fine. Nothing else in the patterns but the chord samps. Any ideas?
Did you highlight the beats where you loaded them. They would be bright green.
Russ check your PMs.
Thanks Morris, but I just figured it out. I didn't realize the instrument volume defaults to zero when adding samples.
Great.
Is there a quick way to add hits to a given page? I'd like to add hi hats to every beat on a given page, but can't see another way to do it other than tapping each hit. Thanks.
IAA includes several location/tempo/transport callbacks that are populated by app hosts and used by clients. Unfortunately, not all hosts use them all, and neither do client apps. Sounds like DrumPerfect may not be using them yet in its IAA implementation.
@Marinus, check out the kAudioUnitProperty_HostCallbacks property, the beatAndTempoProc, musicalTimeLocationProc, and transportStateProc2. You definitely want to be tracking some or all of those in your audio callback, and unfortunately some hosts only populate a few of them (namely, GarageBand only does the latter, making BPM unknowable in clients). Auria does them all, I believe, Cubasis does at least the 1st and 3rd, BM2 all, IIRC.
