  • @Krupa ... you ate your mother! Poor devil, much worse than Hamlet.

@Daveypoo, I know it pains you but Italy isn’t going anywhere, my friend. The Black Death only made way for the Medici bros, Caligula came and went, the young and the strong ( which includes you and your family) will rebuild what is broken. So many times the world has come to an end. This isn’t the last ending by a long shot. Relax and collaborate... did I tell you I was 1/32 Italian? And I’ve read a lot of Primo Levi... (no relation, tho). Oh, and I am crazy for Italian food except the sauce gives me reflux.
Cheer up, bro. Forget the past and pass the bolognese. You are good to go (well, maybe in a year). We are your famiglia, too!

@McD... good cowpokin’ pardner. Keep those heifers headed in the right direction, even if it’s straight off a cliff. And tell your wife alcohol is a sanitizer but you have to drink twice as much to get up to 70%.
    Yippeeyiyokaiayyy!

Me, I’m feeling better and my girl shut down her psychology practice for a month (at least). So, all good for hunkering down. Stay strong you all and don’t eat your mother!

  • I think there’s a very real possibility that this SARS-CoV-2 could recombine and produce a more aggressive second wave later, wiping out all human life on earth. It really is unlike anything anyone has an acquired immunity to, it’s not an influenza or the like, at all, it’s far more complex and specific.

Now that much of our recent music is in only the cloud, future intelligent life on earth (descended from non-humans) would probably think we stopped making music around the year 2000 (ie, at the onset of the mp3, none of which will be accessible or evident).

  • Hey @Daveypoo, thanks for the thoughtful and genuine post. I can deeply relate to the draw of one’s ancestral roots. And I can assure you, living in Europe can be a wonderful experience. Our years as ex-patriots there were some of the best of our lives.

Which is why I hesitate to share this that I read some time back. It bummed me out and probably will you too if you aren’t already aware of it. But ... I think you may find it interesting if you don’t.

Sorry everyone for the somewhat OT post.

I also find getting pissed every night helps my stress levels.

Unfortunately, probably to the detriment of your immune system though. But stress is probably even more harmful, so maybe they balance out. ;)

    My first thoughts? Mad Cow.
    Darwin: thinning the herd.

Cows, I've heard, move in herds, nerds.

ABF is more like a cluster of domesticated (and wild) cats. Management is pointless. But containment (i.e. rules) and
euthanasia are helpful to encourage fewer territorial disputes.

2020 hindsight will be great in 2021. I'm in it for the duration.

But maybe this is all just chaos theory and nothing can be predicted with any accuracy.
Still, this thread shows no sign of dying soon. It will outlive Drambo's text sinkhole if we can keep the
politics under control. (Some will slip in). But we need to avoid all out guerilla warfare and insurgencies.

Now why would @michael give you keys to the store when you're a die hard bomb thrower with Jittery Nerves no less and
potentially viral symptoms? What a way to run a Forum.

Insight into how to disinfect our mobile devices as they seem to be a likely source of getting the virus back onto our fingers and into our body after we’ve gone through the trouble of washing our hands. I’ve seen videos of people washing their headphone jack less iPhones with water and soap.

Here’s an article on how to clean phones.

My phone may end up staying home more.

Here’s Apple’s advice on the topic.

This was a light heart jab. Not a serious attack. We are buds. Text is so literal. I am not (usually). I also miss sarcasm and blow someone's legs off now and then.

@Max23, I’m just here for the fun of it. You’ll know when @McD or I’m serious.... humor font will be turned off and nasty emojis 🧐😜😡🤬

  • It may be nothing but I feel very odd right now - and I transited through Singapore last week.

I’ve booked in for a test this evening and they told me to call from the pavement outside and not to come in.

My symptoms don’t fit the published ones but I’m fighting something that feels very strange so it’s worth a check.

I’ll let you know how it goes!

    :)

gee they had to close down stock exchange for 15 minutes because everything went bananas.
    that doesnt sound good.

That’s not so unusual. With so much algorithm based automated trading going on now, there’s always a real risk of a snowball effect happening far faster than with human traders. All it takes is to push over the wrong domino and the whole thing could blow out in literally minutes. These are just safeguards against that.

But yeh, the stock market sux right now.

@qryss, jeez, man that does sound surreal. I hope you are ok. Please let us know as soon as you find out. Negativity is not my style but I’m rooting for it this time!

@wim, yeah, it’s been done but 7.5% with no immediate end in sight and oil nearly half what it was a month ago? This is some serious bananas! Good thing I’m broke already.

@Max23, Don’t say no... It’s the end of the world. Maybe it’s our time at last!

  • Good advice needed. Plenty of time to unravel after more is know about this bug. Until then share info that helps n any way
    other than simple distractions.

I suspect we'll learn overtime that is a small population at risk overall and building defenses around those at risk is a key wheel it sweeps through giving a lot more a miserable experience for a short amount of time.

Death is one POSITIVE indicator. We need more tests to see how many have it, had it and didn't die.
But those dead people are easy to count... it's just hard to confirm the percentages that are in the fatal category.

Then they work on helping find protocols to improve the odds for those at risk.

If you're young and healthy think about being of service.

  • @McD said:

If you can catch them and they don’t eat your brains first.

  • The vast majority of infected people would probably fall into mild or asymptomatic category.

  • As for evolution theory, adaptation or mutation happens all the time, it doesn’t need an event to cause this, what’s odd about evolution is that dinosaurs became bipedal, had arms, became smart, yet didn’t in all that time invent a bloody iPhone.

  • @McD : there is no new info of relevance that we know of. We are still at the wash hands frequently and avoid crowds stage, unfortunately.

Hospitals are being advised to figure out how to expand their ICUs. Current thinking is that 30-40% of the affected populations will be infected with about 5% of those cases being deemed serious.

Don't panic. Be careful. Go to stores when they aren't crowded and be extra careful not to touch eyes, ears, nose or mouth while out. Make sure visitors wash their hands.

Look, we can speculate all we want... minimize, maximize, age group, smage group. The truth is there is total uncertainty all about us. They don’t even know if the recovered have immunity or can be reinfected. It can die off and return in a more lethal form Like 1918, the Wall Street wizards can fall ill and fuck up in every unpredictable, unexpected way. Presidents and presidential candidates being all dotards can fall ill and die reshaping what might have been into something entirely different.

Oil can fall to twenty bucks a barrel. India provides generics to the world and has stopped exporting. Will someone’s kid be able to get his insulin in three months? China supplies raw pharmaceutical ingredients to India. One small piece missing from the supply chain can stop a complex piece of machinery or technology from being completed. There’s always the weather! In short, aside from it gaining speed outside China and the lack of adequate tests in the US, no one knows zilch about what may or may not happen In the next year to eighteen months.

Of course, there will be a vaccine, there will be opportunity in the crisis, most people and markets will recover. It’s just that a lot of people and a lot of people’s savings may be gone. There will be sunshine to welcome the rising oceans and melting glaciers once more, but there is potential for a lot of pain till then. Let’s be grownups and face the possibilities realistically. We’ve all seen the movies and life imitates art.

Human nature, unfortunately, will go on. The blaming fingers will point, the xenophobes will hate, the nuclear daddys will protect their young and kill with their guns if they “have” to. And speaking of nuclear... there’s always that...Unless all the terrorists get sick.

What’s interesting is that these existential threats are with us every day, every hour and every second. In order to carry on we create an illusion of denial. For most of us here we have lived in a sweet spot when history points out how rare those sweet spots are. When the donkey cart is upset we see how tenuous and fragile the axles are, and damn, it’s all pretty scary. As the former Acting Chief of Staff suggested... get used to it. And love what you still have if you’ve a mind to. It has always been a hair’s breath.

  • @knewspeak Dinosaurs screwed up by not having a thumb.

  • @LinearLineman said:
Look, we can speculate all we want.

OK... let's not speculate. Just document the next 90 days and share interesting "facts" that surface. Then we can spend less time reading the same stuff over and over. If there's nothing to report of value then stay silent and wait. Someone will find something useful at some point.

    Wash hands.
    Cough/sneeze in your elbow.
    Avoid crowds.

There has to be more coming as this progresses. It's potentially the most unique year of our lives or maybe just a big fizzle
of panic. Either way... read it and contribute or do something else.

  • Another practical thing: be very wary of door handles.

Where I work there is one door in and out of the office. Everyone uses it. So you wash your hands then touch the door handle to get back in.

I’ve started to get people to use their elbow or their t-shirt instead of their fingers to open the handle.

But everywhere you look there are similar ‘shared touch points’ that we need to be aware of - and avoid touching directly.
