@McD agreed! Everyone just say something that hasn’t been said before or stay silent. This means you have to read the whole goddam thread! Blessings.

I also find getting pissed every night helps my stress levels.

Unfortunately, probably to the detriment of your immune system though. But stress is probably even more harmful, so maybe they balance out. ;)

My stress levels yesterday were off the scale. Work mountain (why now?), but busted PC due to power cut surges. Bought laptop online, account immediately hacked, Amazon keeping my money for a week before refunding it so I can get another one. Supermarket shelves are now getting very empty here. Daily virus death totals in the news and vulnerable family/friends to worry about. Zero health support out here, even on a good day it’s at least a three week wait to see a doctor. If we get the virus we’ll have to deal with it ourselves. Autistic 11 year old starting to freak out. Brexit. Heavy storms again last night - flooding here for the third time in a month - this is unprecedented. Which means more power cuts.

    Etc.

But it’s ok, because this guy is in charge:

A few days ago the Chief Medical Officer said we were in the delay phase, the same day the Health Minister said we were still in the containment phase, yesterday our PM kept putting a, ‘may have to’ before the procedures set out by the Chief Medical Officer, when he stated in the next two weeks people with the slightest symptoms will have to self isolate.

I think there’s a very real possibility that this SARS-CoV-2 could recombine and produce a more aggressive second wave later, wiping out all human life on earth.

not really, actually exact opposite is very real - that is will be weaker and weaker ...

truth about viruses is - they are living organisms too. their evolutionary goal is to survive which is not consistent with killing own host because then it kills also virus itself..

more viruses are spreading (especially from specie to specie, but also between individuals of same specie), more virus weakens because it learns how to live with it's host in symbiosis ... at least this is how it was explained by one of best epidemiologist and virus specialist in our country in one discussion...

from this point of view more dangerous are bacterias - they are in general lot more deadly than viruses (of course there are exceptions like various hemorrhagic viruses, ebola, yellow fever and so on - but you can count known worldwide active deadly viruses with fingers of two hands - on other side there is a LOT of deadly bacterias circulating around )

Funny fact is that side-effect diseases with common flu are also bacterial infections, which are often source of serious complications, on other side, interestingly there was not observed this kind of bacterial infections in combination with Corona virus - looks like it is common flu domain, so at least in relation to this kind of problems Flu is really lot more dangerous than Corona ..

Yep, chaos. I particularly enjoyed the lie on the news a couple of days ago when they said they’d spoken to supermarket chiefs, and put in a plan for ensuring food supplies and distribution. Quickly followed by another from said chiefs, confirming that absolutely no-one from the government had spoken to them about anything.

I realise the need to keep politics out of this discussion when the thread is dedicated to positive action, but difficult when those actions are being compromised by the people we pay to make sure everything works.

It seriously felt like the end of the world here yesterday. Shop shelves bare, attempts at buying online instantly hacked, money quarantined, power cuts, damaging storm and floods. Again. Approaching economic catastrophe and thousands of deaths, with what can only be described as a mental government in charge. And clients hassling me to get work done quickly with a broken computer, flickering lights and a howling child. And we’re not even sick yet.

On the one hand you’ve got total nightmare chaos, on the other a ‘keep calm and carry on’ mentality. Which is fine, but the two don’t connect in the middle.

    And it’s only Tuesday.

I hear that, and sorry to hear about your nightmares yesterday, a proper pile on, you'd be welcome to use one of my stations if you were nearer...

  • Stress is the immune systems worst enemy.

    Some deep stress relief needed.

  • Thanks to South Korea who have been doing an amazing job testing cases the death rates look to be 0.72 or lower from my understanding. Isn't that similar to seasonal flu? If you take this data it means Italy have a ton more people infected than reported.

Obviously this testing is not static and people need to keep taking precautions and work from home if they can. I'm no Doctor or SCIENTIST!

    Thank you, that’s very kind.

Just went for a walk in the storm, loads of upturned, dead frogs on the track. I lost count after about 20.

    Strange days indeed.

we only see numbers from ppl who got testet, America doesnt test like they do here in Europe,

yeah, totally agree, that is very likely..

which means there is LOT more infected people than we know..

on other side, it's a bit complicated to hide death, so i guess number of deaths is realistic (not underestimated) - there is no more "hidden" deaths caused by ncov which we don't know..

which very clearly means (just apply a bit of logic thinking) that mortality is probably waaaay much less than it looks ...

  • the dead don't show up if they aren't tested
they just show up in another statistic ...

You are not serious, i hope ... In case that somebody dies, it is one of mandatory standard procedures in most of civilised countries to determine reason of dead. Mandatory procedure, forced by law !

If you think that it is likely that there is significant amount of people dead from pneumonia and nobody even tried to check them agains corona (especially when the at least few days before dead needed intense healthcare), then your paranoia is above all acceptable limits ...

    as made up example
granny had a bad heart and died from pneumonia ... (maybe she died of corona, who knows if not tested)
not exactly unusual, you really don't need much phantasy for that ...
    :#

but I agree, the numbers of dead are probably way more accurate.
    thats fucking 6% for now

the current best testing is in South Korea and the death rate is 0.7 or lower.

  • My advice: Don’t get advice for a medical situation from a music forum.

  • This talk that viruses WILL get weaker and weaker to maximize transmission by not killing the host doesn't necessarily happen. It happens IF a mutation makes it weaker without affecting the virus survivability and happens where the virus has a chance to out-compete its competitors.

It hasn't happened with the flu in some sort of way to make it fundamentally weaker. There are years where "weaker" strains prevail and years where worse strains prevail.

While this virus MIGHT change dramatically one way or another, there isn't compelling evidence that it will change dramatically in the near term.

From an epidemiology viewpoint, a virus that is highly transmissible , affects people past child-bearing age disproportionately and affects children only mildly had little evolutionary pressure to weaken.

    Only time will tell.
