  • @JohnnyGoodyear That's pretty close to a jaded political view of the world.... bordering on a conspiracy meme.

    News is a noun.
    Sell is a verb.

Selling implies a motive for personal gain... hinting at winner-looser transactions like a scam.

It's hardly helpful to spread these memes when you are asked to avoid politics... sell that shit on another venue.

The orgies never stopped - you're just not looking in the right places.

    ;)

  • @Daveypoo, I mean public orgies... I’ve been looking in the streets.. is that wrong?

They have declined rapidly as the need to sign multiple and ever more complicated consent agreements has increased. Being out of country for awhile, I’m not surprised you missed this.

Troll around the courthouse and any local lawyers’ offices. You may have better luck.

Unless the office is oval shaped, anything goes there, so I heard.

  • I read “office” as “orifice” the first time around. :D 😂

Agree. Hope our country here in US wakes up and is not too complacent in this regard. I hope universal care comes someday cause it really is unfair as most hard working adults don’t have medical care.

We know one thing Italy’s healthcare system is under strain and it’s only been two weeks from when the explosion in cases started.

we will see if what Italy is doing is bearing fruit.
if not its going to explode all over Europe soon.

thats what I asked myself when I saw pictures from Milano in the news.
is the next thing in the new these pictures from Frankfurt?

Yes it could be anywhere in Europe, but at least we have reasonably good healthcare systems for all our citizens, America on the other hand....is shamefully sad in such a wealthy nation.

Our nhs in the U.K. has been gutted in the last decade, one thing that is really going to make a difference tho if this outbreak gets going, is we have lost loads of nurses and other frontline staff, due to a hostile environment being created around immigration, especially in the last four years or so.

That's right - all SORTS of things are happening in oval-shaped offices and Russian hotel rooms....

but this is just barking at the wrong tree

@Max23 Exactly. I would also add there’s no vaccine yet either.

@JohnnyGoodyear if you’re suggesting avoiding panic is a good idea and that anyone claiming to have some sort of cure at this point is clearly a charlatan— then I’m on board.

If you’re urging people not to get vaccinated, then it seems you’re out of step with the medical evidence of its efficacy. Sure many people will try to profit from real or fake cures— selfishness can be a part of human nature. If you care about what happens to others, it’s more important than ever to come together and separate what works and what doesn’t while trying to make it available to as many as possible rather than to make as much profit from it as possible. Ultimately I believe now more than ever we’re a very social species who are very dependent upon each other so our collective and individual success relies on being able to strike a sustainable balance between meeting the needs of individuals and groups.

Eventually humanity will harness truly cosmic energy, energy of such magnitude that it could render our planet as dust, at this point we will have to trust in one another absolutely.

My advice: Exercise. Get in shape. This won't prevent disease of course, but it will improve recovery time and a return to normal.

Yep, get fit. But avoid anything that might leave you with an injury, the last thing you want is to take up space in A&E with a broken ankle from mountain biking.

I’ve spent the last few months recuperating from a dodgy back, and do a lengthy walk every day - even when it’s stormy and raining dead frogs. I’ve been a bit obsessed with the step counter on my phone.

The plan was to lose a bit of weight that hasn’t really happened, but aside from the odd lingering back twinges it’s really toughened me up. The fresh air is good too.

Bring it on virus, I’ll kick your ass.

  • My advice is to get into as much debt as possible, enjoy yourself with someone else’s money, and when SARS-CoV-2 recombines and kills every human on earth, at least you won’t have to pay it back.

I assume this is an attempt at humor rather than being factual as this article on the Spanish flu contradicts your statement:

Specifically, it is now well accepted that obesity increases one's risk of being hospitalized with, and dying from, an influenza virus infection (Morgan et al., 2010; Louie et al., 2011; Van Kerkhove et al., 2011). Perhaps of even greater concern is the fact that obesity inhibits both virus-specific CD8+ T cell responses and antibody responses to the seasonal influenza vaccine (Sheridan et al., 2012).

I'm taking down a post with Twitter content because it's difficult to verify from any other source and the truth will play out in due course without misinformation being distributed. My apologies but I think this it the best course until we get more authoritative reporting on this areas with high inflection reports.

  • @McD, thanks for posting Jason’s observations. Everyone here should hold their own hands and read it. It is utterly shocking and filmic, but it is our reality now.

My girlfriend ex-wife and I had a very serious conversation about it. The only conclusion we can come to, being in the vector of legality, is to find a goal... and that goal is to survive eighteen months until there is, hopefully, a vaccine. It’s stark, I know. But, IMO, not unrealistic. It is my plan not to enter another public space if at all possible. Today I made my first online order and curbside pickup of groceries. It was rather cool, actually. What each of us does is an individual decision. But, please, get hold of the medications you need, if possible. And your recreational substance of choice. Namaste, friends.

I have mixed feelings about posting this 2nd hand report on what it's like in Italy. It's intended as a warning about not taking this seriously from the start of the situation and the consequences of failing to do so.
