stick with groovebox! compact is limited to 8 bars, one instance only of each instrument.
plus something new is coming to groovebox soon 😎
Ooooooooo!
I have Groovebox as well. Just unlocked Reason as well. Out of all the 3 sounds, the one I'd recommend is Europa. As much as I like Groovebox, it can't get Europa's level of leads. Especially with Chords Mode or Arpegiator turned ON.
The other synths in the Reason Compact kits are...meh. I'm not gonna refund them though. You can make similar if not better drum kits in Groovebox than Rhythmik, especially with Groovebox having automation, and the Monotone bass, while good, isn't super amazing. That synth engine is pretty basic too.
So I did make the right choice before. Ah well...I'll take the loss. At least I didn't buy them both at full price so it makes it a lot easier to swallow.
Panning?
Looks like a new instrument. A drum synth?
Looks and sounds like it, nice, would still be ace if they let you load your own samples in the current one though...
I'm guessing a vintage synth emulation. That's a way to use nostalgia to attract people. Plus, it's purple.
@Samflash3 europa is really great. i wish they would make that an auv3, it’s got some great stuff going on.
i can’t say what’s new beyond that video, but it’s going to really make GB extra wavey
I had a friend who was an artist. He hated purple. Over the years I’ve come to share his view. I don’t know why. (I do like Prince, btw.) sometimes it seems there’s an over-abundance of purple in music software.
Sheesh - I read purple as "people". I was thinking yeah, I sort of agree. But, I do like purple. My studio is purple and orange.
Its inexplicable limitations restrict it terribly as a groovebox, but I just paid for the full unlock of Europa because it really is a gorgeous sounding synth.
I think Europa is awesome, too.
For bass and drums, I got plenty other great options.
Exactly!

Does anyone know if the wave editor IAP in Scythe lets you import wavetables — or just edit the existing ones.
Also, if you can import tables, which format are accepted?
Thanks!
Is going to be abandonware or...?
You can import any .wav file into one of the Oscillators, and then save it as a wave table. That wave table will be available in the wave table editor.
It seems able to import any wav file from AudioShare, but only uses the first 256 samples it seems.
You can import sound but not wavetables. It doesn't use (or generate) standard wavetables which I think is responsible for some of its character. You also can't export your patches or wavetables.
any 1 really use Scythe?
Oh cool!
Thanks for the info, @CracklePot & @espiegel123.
I picked it up for free a while back and although it's probably not in the same league as the more popular wavetable synths, it's also quite inexpensive!
I break it out from time to time, have a go and wonder why I don't use it more often — then forgot about it for a good while.
It's not that I don't enjoy it, it's just that I have so damn many synths and only so many hours in a day!
I’m not a big fan of the sounds Scythe puts out but I do like messing with the custom waveforms, Drawing my own and seeing what comes out.
I could have swore I imported an Adventure kid single cycle wave form Into Scythe before.... maybe it was a diff app can’t rememberer.
I use Scythe. It’s unique in sonic character. You really have to massage it though to get something. Upping key, the tempo, and speed of the wave tables and associated LFOs helps a lot.
You can tame some of the raw harshness with filtering, and make some ambient stuff with everyone’s favorite trick, REVERB.
It will let you load any wave file visible in he iTunes sharing (and maybe more formats, not sure)
and treats them as wavetables.
The IAP preset collections are largely collections of wavetables.
There's also a "Wavetable Creator".
It's great for making sonic environments and not anything like a traditional oscillator-based synth.
You should put it through a massive reverb for the early tests like FAC Alteza. Then turn it off.
There's an optional "delay" effect that smooths it out a bit but a massive reverb works better for me.
