Who uses L7? I recall it had great promise but needed work.

Isn't that the actual definition of every single Audiokit app released up to this point ?

  • Has this been posted? Tapecassette2 Free.

  • I believe there was a thread about it but There’s no harm sharing it here, more people will see it. I love tape cassette 1 & 2.

  • @ExAsperis99 i got it, its cool. fun to use and get quick ideas out. I put it on a bus in AUM, then send some instruments to the bus and get looping. You can quickly flush out ideas and then export them. The built in fx are pretty limited/ could be better, but they are fine for quick ideas.

Pretty sure I’m going to jump into gadget while it’s on sale, any good reasons not to?

Gadget’s a funny one for me - it was the reason I bought an Air 2 when it came out, and I’ve spent a scary amount on individual Gadgets.

I love playing around on it, but I’ve never made a finished track with it. Then there’s the heat/battery drain issues...

So while I appreciate it, and love how it sounds, I could quite happily live without it.

If I could travel back in time, I’d still buy Gadget itself, and some of the apps that include Gadgets, but not bother with the majority of the Gadgets that don’t include standalones.

Hmm that’s interesting, the reason it’s attracting my attention is that so many peeps here say that they finish tracks with it like nothing else...

I definitely would be trying to stick to vanilla as much as possible, exporting stems and midi to get deeper with later but hoping that it might be a secret sauce to getting me closer to finishing structure...

For me, Gadget delivered indeed. IMHO you don't need many IAP gadgets.
Start vanilla and find out what you really miss. The more you use built-in gadgets, the more you'll find workarounds for getting over "missed" gadgets.
The ones that I would instantly buy again though are:
Stockholm: Given you work with REX (RX2] loops (many don't!), there's no better way of working with sliced audio.
Bilbao: Gadget has a great set of factory Drum samples but for importing any other kind of samples, bilbao is the little MPC500, so to say. I'm glad I didn't go for Vancouver instead. Also imports from AudioShare directly - a nice combo for sampling on the device, even on an iPhone.
Synths are a very personal thing.
By combining multiple factory instruments, you can get quite far without additional synth purchases.
If you want it more comfortable and more flexible in terms of sounds, these are the ones that I would buy again:
    iWavestation "Milpitas" and iMonoPoly "Montpellier".

  • Cheers @rs2000 though I do like mashing up loops and samples I’ve not got many Rex format ones, was more thinking that I’d need either/and Abu Dhabi and Bilbao for samples, if I do indeed take the plunge... kinda thinking I should stick to learning more complex sequencing in drambo and also use groovebox for when I just want to dive in without having too much thinking to do...

Thanks everyone for the tips on installing apps from unknown authors. I got it installed with your help. Love this place. Now I need to figure out how to use it! :D

You’re welcome. It’s pretty basic, so you should get it quickly. Take a look at the manual, it’s a quick read but will get you started on it right away.

yes but unfortunately i have issues with the ones i have , and synth one is still iaa which makes it hard to use without state saving

Is there a way to change the latency of wavescope? It only displays things that happened a few seconds ago instead of what is happening now.

@White, the B3x was supposed to go from $99 to $129 in May, I believe. Instead it went down to 79.99.
This is an impressive instrument and deserves the tariff. Us iOSers should get used to it for quality goods, but when you can get something like Ravenscroft275 for under $20 on sale it is a kind of cognitively dissonant. You just can’t help feeling that way.

But remember that the resale value is zero for iOs apps. Therefore I think it´s not "that" cheap every app that we buy, so..

L7, along with Enso, is currently one of the only AU3 audio loopers. They deserve merit simply for being that. I prefer Enso for guitar looping, but L7 I like to use as an almost live sampler for the AU3 of Reslice (which you can’t record live into).

If you want to loop in AUM I think it’s a bargain at the current sale price (£2.99 here). Only one instance possible, but that’s one more than none.

I feel the exact same way. I mean I love it & don't regret buying most of the IAP's (I think the only ones I don't have are the Dotec Audio Deemax, Lisben, Kanata & Ebina) but the walled off architecture is limiting.

I thought the MIDI out Gadget Taipei would open things up but to record anything with it is a convoluted mess. If Korg made each Gadget an AUv3 like they do on desktop it would open the app so much.

  • “open up” hmm more like code it from scratch AUV3.. its not just a lever they switch on/off

Yeah, individual Gadget's as AU's would pretty much stamp their mark as a must-have for iOS music makers, currently with it all locked in a battery eating, iPad heating walled garden, or IAA/standalones, they're probably not that essential.

What does impress me though is the sounds they make. I loaded up the MS20 Gadget last night for some soloing, and grabbed a patch at random that sounded totally lovely. I think their Gadgets have some of the nicest, most usable sounds out of nearly all iOS synths.

If it wasn't such a resource hog I'd use Gadget more - as it's really easy to get a quick, professional souding thing going. If the crashing thing has been fixed then I might delve in a bit more and export a few bits for use in Blocs.

  • @MonzoPro Gadget is quite low on CPU except you're making good use of multiple Odyssei/Lexington synths. Most of my projects run fine on an old iPad 2.
Maybe it's another iOS 13 issue?

I’m on 12x, I need to update really.

Not too sure about the CPU usage, it’s more the heat/battery thing that worries me.

Monzo - did you get Gadget on Mac too? Since you are using mostly desktop now for music I'll bet that would be sweet. However, if they've dropped development on that (did I read that here??) that would just suck.

After prevaricating a few days, had a Friday night treat moment so got gadget. Definitely like it, I’ll see how I get on and maybe get Abu Dhabi later before the sale ends as I reckon it’ll cover sampling for me within this app.

Many of the synths seem pretty similar but they all are pretty easy to get good sounds out of.

The main thing that I like is the nice and easy sequencing on iPhone in portrait - one thing that’s really an advantage over landscape is you can see more range of notes at once so chords and melodies are easier to construct... I would have stuck with zenbeats but for this feature - I’ll still use it on iPad but gadget seems (so far) much quicker to bash ideas out on the go...
I guess when drambo gets its clip sequencing, this might be better, though it’s not as easy to get such rich sounds from that as korg’s stuff... plus I have electribe already so got the corresponding gadget ‘free’ :)

Does seem to munch battery quite quickly, I guess some synths are hungrier than others?

  • @Krupa
That's very much my take on Gadget too. Easy, fast and straightforward sequencing for composition, also on iPhone.
It can take a while until Drambo will get a sequencer engine like that, and like you said, it's easy to get good sounds out of Gadget synths.
Drambo has its strengths for out-of-the-common sound design and sounds and effects that can't be done by any other iOS synth except miRack, and Drambo is the most accessible and the quickest to get good results in this area.
I do like Drambo's sequencer for doing rhythmic parameter modulation though.

you will love it more and more every time you use it.

and not sure if anyone's mentioned it here yet but there are a couple Korg iOS synths that if purchased outside of gadget they show up free in gadget.. ie MonoPoly shows up as Montpellier.. and the iMS-20, iPolysix etc. and those should be half off during the sale.

  • If anyone needs a Windows 10 Pro retail licence not OEM for $39.99 don’t forget to buy in dollars if in (UK) works out better than the £39.99 default.

Yeah, that's weird. I can't figure out what they're offering for the extra 3.95. You can download Windows 10 directly from Microsoft:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10ISO

Maybe it's an admin fee for if you lose the serial number?

I've been running Windows 10 under Boot Camp with 'please register' nags for a couple of months, as a course I'm doing doesn't like Macs. Will clamber aboard and make it official before the price jumps up, so hoping for some clarification here also.

No the download is an 18mb Windows 10 creation tool to create either a USB flash drive or DVD, but you can download this via Microsoft directly anyway, but you get the lifetime licence code so as per previous editions of Windows you have been able to upgrade for free, plus you can transfer the key to another PC.
