AudioShare updates

  • ICloud Drive integration would be cool

  • 2.7 is currently on the test bench, and it does has a "WiFi drive" that allows download/upload from any web browser on your local network!

As mentioned before, it also has an auto-zoom to make trimming easier. And fade in/out. And ability to search/filter the current folder. And a built-in text editor for taking notes. And it implements the iOS8 doc picker, as well as its own doc picker extension that can be used from other apps. The fact that AudioShare implements the doc picker means it can access iCloud Drive too, though you'll need to export/import files manually (no auto-sync, but will look into that in the future).

Capturing the web-audio is unfortunately not possible. The web-view component outputs directly to the audio interface, with no way to get in between to capture the signal.

Still some minor tweaks and some more testing before release, just keep it together and have faith and we shall survive this long wait! ;)

  • Wohoo "WiFi Drive" and lots of other goodies, this is going to be a sweet update :)

Hope the 'record to folder' and 'multiple takes'(recording multiple files without leaving the record dialog) makes it into 2.7, together with 'wait for input' when recording from IAA Generators.

Let's just hope more Devs realize what a marvelous piece of software this is and start to implement direct support or at least implement doc-picker in their apps and boom no more need for Retronyms Audio Copy :D

  • wifi drive sounds great. Might be time for a Black Friday NAS drive.

  • All good. I actually am excited about the notes functionality.... :) Can't believe I just typed that...

  • I guess we're all waiting for the next version of AudioShare :)

Personally I'm mostly looking forward to the new zoom/trim/fade features that will lessen the need to use other apps for more precise trimming and keep all the files in one place.

As for new feature-requests i know it will just postpone the release...

These few ideas that popped into my mind when i was recording stuff with AudioShare from TV using my trusty Behringer UCA-202.

    • Pre-Record buffer for Mic/Line Recording (~1s or user definable? iMPC Pro has Adjustable Pre-Record up to 100ms i wish it was a little longer, I'm getting old hehe).

Reason for this request is that when we 'hear' something the reaction time to press 'record' causes us to miss the start of what we heard. With longer 'buffer' we could actually trigger the recording after we hear something and rest assured it's already been captured :)

    • Option to have 'Monitor' automatically turned on/off when entering/leaving the record dialog.

The Pre-Record buffer might be a little tricky to implement but the optional automatic 'Monitor on/off' in the record dialog shouldn't cause any major problems for @j_liljedahl

Even though AudioShare 2.7 hasn't been released yet I'm already thinking what could be added, but that's just me...

Fucking smashing idea that prerecord. I wouldn't mind if it were set to 120 seconds. I know I've missed capturing self generated magic because of it.

  • Can't wait for the update. The integrated audio editor became more and more important for me. I hope Audioshare will end as the state-of-the-art audio editor for iOS ;-) Not because of the number of features, but because of its practicality.
It is interesting to self-observe how my usage of Audioshare has changed over time. At the moment, Twisted Wave is still my favorite audio editor. But this will change maybe soon. Because of the little details I prefer to use Audioshare more and more, especially the snap function during trimming. Thanks @j_liljedahl for this great app!

  • Thanks guys :)
I'm putting pre-record buffer on my TODO right now! Probably not for 2.7 though, rather have it out soon and save something for later updates.

I have to add a request for a few things to the 'TODO' that @j_liljedahl has.

I know AudioShare is not intended to be a full blown audio-editor but...
I do like the 'style' of Kymatica Apps so i wish there was a proper Audio Editor too :)

    • Zero Selection
    • Cut/Copy/Paste Selection
    • Replace Selection Content, Same as Paste Selection but do not alter target/destination selection size (Paste inside destination selection bounds).
    • MixMerge, Mix Source & Destination with control over source/destination balance with fancy 'math'(Multiply, Subtract, Add etc), option to extend target selection. If source is longer that destination selection the source is truncated to match destinations selection size.
    • Time-stretch with BPM Detection (Allowing to change length either by % or BPM).
    • Multiple files open at the same time? (To allow operations between files).

And honestly I've been 'jamming' by clicking on the play buttons (triggering loops and sounds) and I also know AudioShare is not an 'instrument' but i do wish there was 'pads' to trigger sounds or selections, no need for a step sequencer :D

The pads could also be used to switch between open sounds or act as 'buffers' for the cut/copy/paste operations...(triggering them would simple play the buffer).

    I'm crazy right??

I think all the feature requests should be directed to a brand new Kymatica app we can all buy, to thank @j_liljedahl for all the work that app will involve. Also, that app should be called AudioFlare. ;)

  • Zero selection, if you mean automatically nudging the selection bounds at a zero-crossings to avoid clicks, would be a useful and not-stretching-it-too-far feature (in my mind anyway) for AudioShare. The rest are for AudioFlare and more of our money. :)

Another AudioFlare feature: Set loop points and overlap anything after the end loop point with the start of the loop. So we can capture something through AUFX:Space, for example, and mix the tail into the start of the loop.

I was more thinking if 'silence' when i was thinking about the Zero Selection, this could be used to 'mute' parts of the file like noise between words or sounds. I'm thinking the new fade in/out function has short enough fade times to avoid clicks in the start and end of selection.

But yes, 'snap to zero' would be a handy feature as would a DC-Correction because if DC is not correct 'snap to zero' will not work as expected ;)

  • We need a bin where you men can put your v. good ideas down in silence to ensure you DO NOT DISTRACT The Mister from his appointed rounds of getting this next piece of the better beast into our sticky hands.

And then as soon as I can zoom about, please deluge him with everything you've got...

I would stay and chat but I feel the sudden need for some self generated magic....

  • "loop trim overdub tail" (or what it should be called) is also on my TODO actually (for a later update). Everything else might end up in a future audio editor app :)

  • any eta on the update?

  • And your mixer? I want to buy your apps

    Hehe. This. :)
