  • Do I assume right, by the way, that Musk Midi player, like Photon AU, will also ask you whether you want to load the left hand track or the right hand, or do the two get lumped together here? I’m loving Photon but getting some weird behaviour so am tempted to try Musk out. Cheers!

Oh and in case anyone missed my tutorial using this with Photon and other midi utilities, let me post it here too 😛. Fernando is giving away 4 free codes with this video. Even though most people reading this thread have the app already, you could always get it and give to a friend:

Piano Motifs - beautiful melodies midi-processed with Photon AU, Midi Echo, midiGATEs, Rozeta Scaler

  • Version 1.10 of Piano Motifs is now available for download at the App Store.

This version has the following new features and enhancements:
    • A Swing Rhythm option for melody.
    • Chord progressions with modal mixture (Andalusian, Picardy Third, Major Flats).
    • A MIDI Loop Ready mode.
    • Export MIDI and skip available at any time when a motif is being played. This is now the default.
    • New arpeggio accompaniments (varying 3rd tone with suspended tone - 2nd or 4th).
    • Settings popover window is now scrollable, better suited for smaller displays and landscape mode.
    • Fixed issue with truncated audio file after a previous skip.
    • Fixed note length issues in waltz and waltz polka accompaniments.

You can listen to samples of what Piano Motifs can generate at: https://SoundCloud.com/Azul-3d

    Enjoy!

Thanks for the amazing tool. Here’s a little alchemical concoction you helped me to make this evening:

  • @echoopera, very nice development and enhancement of the motif! Keep the alchemy going!

Piano Motifs Rev 2.0 is now available in the App Store. This new revision implements MIDI Out functionality as an IAP.

    • New In-App Purchase for MIDI Out connectivity. Play the music generated by Piano Motifs on your favorite synthesizer, DAW, a connect/route/mix app like AUM, or any app that has Virtual MIDI Destination (MIDI In) capabilities. New functionality allows for setting Piano Motifs in loop mode, delaying the start of a motif, and programming MIDI channels for melody and accompaniment independently. IMPORTANT: Before purchasing, please be aware that Piano Motifs DOES NOT OFFER Ableton Link functionality.
    • Save button is now available when playing a new motif.
    • Add7 chords can now be a major or a dominant 7th.
    • Ability to generate two passing notes at beginning or end of chord triad.
    • Added new chord progressions.

To purchase the IAP go to Settings (⚙︎) and look for the MIDI Out In-App Purchase Buy button.

If you are going to use Piano Motifs with AUM, you can do the following:
    1. In Piano Motifs select AUM for both melody and accompaniment MIDI destinations
    2. Set the MIDI channel you want to send the melody and accompaniment on, or just leave the defaults.
    3. Open AUM and set up an Audio strip and add an AUv3 or IAA synthesizer app.
    4. For the input of the synthesizer app select AUM virtual destination. Any synth that supports MIDI In and is an AUv3 or supports IAA should work. You could also use a MIDI effects AU, in that case set that AU's input to be the AUM virtual destination.
    5. Set the AUM virtual destination's MIDI channel to match the channel you programmed in Piano Motifs.
    6. Go to Piano Motifs and press play or select a previously saved motif to play.

I will like to extend my thanks to @Gavinski, @tehskwrl and @white for their testing and invaluable feedback in the process of getting this version up and running. You guys are great!

    Enjoy!

    no.

  • A very good update, thanks @azul3D_Apps

  • Now we're talkin' ... midi out and aum routery makes this a seriously useful bit of gear ... inspirational - quite literally. Many thanks.

  • Congrats on the serious update there @azul3D_Apps

  • Can we now send midi directly into Atom or Drambo, for example?

  • @azul3D_Apps awesome. IAP bought 👊🏼™️

Yes. Haven’t tried it yet but instead of routing it straight to synth send through atom first.

  • Oh, awesome! instapurchase!

  • Nice update 👍

Is it possible to sync Piano Motifs now as well?

  • Piano Motifs supports slide over, which comes in really handy when sendig midi out to AUM 😊

  • No sync, the bpm will go out at whatever you set it at in PM itself, you then have to adjust the bpm in the host. @gusgranite

    Old school, eh?

    No problem! 😀

  • Oh this is a fun little thing ... all afternoon I've had it pumping into a solid brass section down low with strings doing the right hand. Just ripping into it they are... got spittle on me!

The minimalist interface is still a bit clunky and DIY I reckon - but that just means there's lots of scope for improvements and tinkerisating. Early days.

This app has truly enormous potential... wonderfully musical little gadget. You've cracked something remarkable here ... well done @azul3D_Apps and all involved. Looking forward to watching and hearing Piano Motifs develop.

  • Look out for my vid on the update coming very very shortly!

  • @azul3D_Apps cool, is auv3 and sync coming ?
