@royor thanks for the spoiler alert, but as I said, I’m old and having a tough time figuring all of this stuff out, totally new world for me. I’m cooking with a hammer at the moment. From what I can tell, BM3 treats midi and AU with what seems like contempt and it’s unfortunately the only DAW I’ve learned well enough to churn out respectable music. I’ll keep grinding to keep the noob questions to a minimum.
@king_picadillo I don't use BM3, it seems like it is one of those products that is just so nearly perfect but has some really annoying flaws and the devs don't fix them enough. Pity.
@king_picadillo, have you tried GarageBand? It is a pretty decent DAW, relatively easy to use and free! You can import multi-track MIDI into GarageBand: https://support.apple.com/guide/garageband-ipad/import-audio-and-midi-files-chsab9d208e/ipados
Anyway, a single track MIDI file could be an option to be looked into for future revisions of Piano Motifs.
I will try that because i like your app so much, this will be a suitable workaround. Maybe import into GarageBand and then exports to BM3 either before or after locking down sounds and fx. If the single track option gets added, it’ll be icing on the cake. Thanks.
Buy IAP or use Musk Midi Player, Xequence, or use Photon AU
Unfortunately GarageBand doesn’t have MIDI export 🙁. There is a convoluted way to do it by creating a loop and then using a conversion tool.
@azul3D_Apps Damn, thwarted again! I will use @Poppadocrock ’s suggestion and see where I can get with the iap.
To me it is a total no-brainer for anyone using this app to get the iap, it's cheap and it's too useful not to.
@Gavinski No doubt, the fact that the PC/Mac program I first saw doing this was $80, $5 is indeed a no brainer. But I also have a pretty bad case of appaholia and I didn’t want this to launch me on another spree....and also just have a lot of compatibility issues with BM3 so I just didn’t want to further my frustrations in a different vein. That said, I bought it and was able to make it work with a little fiddling. I’m stoked beyond belief. I did end up buying Atom, Bismark sample player and was on my way to buying a couple more until I called my sponsor thank you and @azul3D_Apps for your patience and helpfulness. Spliqs wasn’t cutting it, compositions lack originality and sound way to much like source material. PM is really a gem of an app.
Haven’t got this yet, I’ve been debating between this and fortamento for a little too long now and I’m still lost.... any help?
@Weareroses Don’t have fortamento, but this app is a gem. Had some issues at first, but they were BM3 related. It’s a stupid value for the price with the in app purchase. All told like $5 for something that would cost $50 or more on desktop from my research. It does depend on what you want it for, but for my needs it’s great: endless source of sample melodies that I can process to sound vintage, it’s priceless. Tried Spliqs for the same purpose and in my opinion it’s too constrictive as the melodies all sound too much like the source material. If PM was made Auv3 it might be the most useful app I own, a man can dream right?
Thanks for this. If I get fortamento I’ll let you know. Probably will pick this up around the same time. I have a bad app habit. Processing melodies is something that’d make my days easier no doubt. Both seem similar, getting this first though. Thanks again for the detailed insight.
I'll be curious to hear more about Portamento, hadn't even heard of it til you mentioned it @Weareroses
I used Piano Motifs a lot before this update but for some reason I don't get good results anymore. Before the update it gave me tons of great melodies, but 99% of the results after the update sound weird at some point or completely random.
@azul3D_Apps : any idea why this could be?
Wow
Just brought this app.
Hit next 5 times, saved 5 Motifs
Sounds good
Can you save the audio??
What I saved sounded good with the stock piano instrument.
Last question, if I purchase the midi out iap, I take it the on board instrument will be silent and just send out the midi notes, as desired
Will 'Link' ever be added?
Or due to the way its been coded, will never be an option?
I cannot find the save audio file feature again. I know its in there somewhere. I used it a few weeks ago but where does it hide, after you bought the MIDI iAP? Thanks
If u save something in piano motifs it can always play it as audio if you just turn of the midi enable using the midi settings at the top left @david_2017 @Nicebutfun
Was hoping for audio loop export as well
Sorry to sound like a baby
This app is very good
@Nicebutfun, @david_2017
just to complement on what @gavinski stated, an audio file of the motif is generated on the fly when the motif is played to its completion using the internal piano instrument. Only then, will an audio file be available for saving or sharing/exporting. That is why when you have enabled MIDI Out, there isn't any option to export or share the audio file.
@Nicebutfun, with the current base code of Piano Motifs Ableton Link isn't possible.
Hi @JimP4nsen, there shouldn't be any major changes to the generation algorithm in revision 2.0 of Piano Motifs. The range of notes to select from for a motif was increased a little bit, some new chord progressions were added, and the ability to generate dominant 7th for some chords (before, for example for chord I, the 7th was always the major 7th chord) was added.
I will DM you with some questions to see if we can try to figure out the issues you are having.
Yes. Get both. Quite inexpensive to have two solid apps for semi generative Chords and melodies. Both send midi out for use directly in a host, PM is an IAP. They are different enough that both are worth it for the price. Fortamento is just working in 4 Bar pieces, you pick key and tempo, then can change the chords and the melody inside the app. PM with IAP, creates more realistic sounding chord playing, and great melodies, you can not alter the notes until you have the midi in another app, but seriously 8 out of 10 pieces I create with Piano Motifs I like, 2-4 out of 10 I turn into a song. So since price point is so low on both, what $5 to get both and PM IAP, definitely get both, I highly recommend both, with IAP on PM.
I like to create music from so many different starting points, whether it be an audio loop, a sliced loop, a midi clip, something I wrote, some thing I accidentally jammed into, or something i semi generated and then flushed out. These to apps are perfect for the last part. Plus if you like what the app created but you want to put your own touches on It, you can do that too. I do that a lot, to make it sound more like what I hear in my head, and to make it my own. Once you set the parameters and generate the midi, it’s your midi, you created it, you can do whatever you want with it. Hope this helps.
Both are great and just different enough to make both useful.
@JimP4nsen do you mean in the app itself with the built in sound? I was having weird note overlays, note lengths, errant notes etc but only when sending the midi out to BM3. For me it was a BM3 issue and note an issue with PM.
It’s not a major deal for Me I just said the host to the same tempo turn on the Metronome start to host then start piano motifs on the 1. If you use quantize, almost everything fits into a 1/16 grid so it’s not too hard to easily rearrange and move the Midi, once you have it in Atom or wherever.
Bringing it home with this response! Thanks so much. Definitely am getting both.
Thanks for the replys
And the answers
Many thanks
@azul3D_Apps thanks man! I get it
Makes sense. Thanks for your reply
@king_picadillo @azul3D_Apps : I did some more testing and you might have been right. If I disable the MIDI out I get better results.
Not sure if this was because of a bug or the sounds I‘ve chosen.
Sorry for the confusion
