I’m not sure I understand the ‘progression can’t have undefined bars’ error?

Hi @gusgranite, this warning appears when you finish editing a programmed progression and the progression has a bar or bars that don't have either a chord or a silent bar associated to them. Basically make sure that you don't have any holes in your progression.

Hi - thank you. That’s what I thought. I must have been doing something daft as I’m playing with that feature for the first time👍

  • A new version of Piano Motifs (v2.46) is available for download. This version has the following new features:

    • Added section trim functionality for arrangements. You can now trim motifs when arranging them.
    • New combination of arpeggio/bass or arpeggio/chord for randomly generated accompaniments.
    • Added an icon above the motif label to indicate that the motif is being played using MIDI Out.
    • Fixed bar display for motifs with melody swing rhythm.
    • Fixed crash when editing an arrangement that uses silent bars.

    Enjoy!

@telecharge, Thanks for your support ☺️

  • Love the Tip Jar feature. Thanks for your work on this great tool. 👊🏼™️

  • I have made another tutorial that shows how to quickly generate a cinematic style motif using Piano Motifs.
    Check it out!

Thanks @echoopera ☺️, your alchemy always greatly enhances the output of the tool.

  • This video shows a new upcoming Piano Motifs app feature. MIDI Out is used to send the generated motif to AUM and is played on Pure Piano with Rymdigare effects (melody), Pure Piano (accompaniment), and Roli Noise (third track).

I think the Rymdigare effect is NOT helpful to appreciate the compositions being generated. A pristine
Piano Melody will sell more apps for anyone shopping.

I like the Melody lock feature but I'd also like to optionally lock the accompaniment and then generate
a folder of viable melodies to select from. I do that now by saving a folder of all 3 MIDI files and then just
working through the Melodies. If this is possible already please slip me a clue.

  • "Need a beautiful melody? I got you!"

(How I hate those 'MIDI Chord Pack' ads on YouTube)

  • Is anyone able to get the midi in Zenbeats? In Piano Motifs I set the Midi Out to Network, on Zenbeats Midi In to Network but no luck...
In AUM there's no problem, neither with other instrument apps

Not being a Zenbeats user I suggest a workaround, consider: save to MIDI files (there are several options offered in PM) and test importing into Zenbeats tracks. I use this to get PM MIDI Motifs into LK and StaffPad. I generate a dozen PM variations and save them all into a Folder and then audition them
in these playback or rendering apps to create compositions.

No luck unfortunately. I am also waiting for anybody to solve this.

  • A new version of Piano Motifs (v2.47) is now available. This version has the following new features:

    • Melody lock functionality. You can now lock the melody for the previously generated motif and generate a new accompaniment for it.
    • Added new preset accompaniments for randomly generated motifs.
    • Added new preset chord progressions for randomly generated motifs.
    • Fixed issue where accompaniment lock was not lost after modifying programmed chord progression.

    Enjoy!

Only one melody is generated when the accompaniment lock feature is used. Multiple melodies aren’t possible.

  • @tatqoo, @SiriusDream
If Zenbeats were a MIDI destination for the CoreMIDI API, it would show up in the Piano Motifs MIDI Out destination list.

  • A new version of Piano Motifs (v2.48) is now available. This version has the following new features:

    • New Melody Constraint settings available: Arpeggio and Tonic Arpeggio. When Arpeggio is selected the melody will play a random arpeggio with notes from the chord being played on each bar. When Tonic Arpeggio is selected the melody will play a random arpeggio with notes from the tonic chord.
    • Added new internal accompaniment variations for randomly generated motifs.
    • Fixed issue with incorrect duration of last note of a repeat sequence.
    • Fixed issue when programming the number of bars, the incorrect number of bars were generated for some time signatures or when locking the accompaniment.
    • Fixed crash that could occur when incrementing the number of bars after locking an accompaniment.

    Enjoy!

  • I really like the generated patterns, but feel that the UX is very poor. It feels slow and many times I don't know what to do. I would like to have everything (or most things) on the same page and having a list of the last generated patterns (like the last 5) at hand.

Thanks for your feedback. Glad you're liking the generated motifs. Yes, there are always improvements that can be made to the UI to make it more attractive, intuitive and streamlined.

It feels slow and many times I don't know what to do.

If you need help with knowing what to do, don't hesitate to send your questions to [email protected]. You can also consult the manual included with the app. The manual can be accessed by pressing the info button (i) on the top right of the screen and is very detailed.

Maybe this is something that could be implemented in future revisions.

@cokomairena, I forgot to mention that there are also some great tutorials and demos on YouTube for Piano Motifs that you could refer to.

A new version of Piano Motifs (v2.49) is now available. This version implements the following new features:

    • Added the ability to program multi chord bar progressions down to a quarter note resolution. This option is only available for 2/4 and 4/4 time signatures.
    • New internal accompaniment variations for randomly generated motifs.
    • Fixed crash that could occur when there were silent bars in a motif with a programmed progression.

    From the manual:

    Multi Chord Bar:
This setting allows you to have more than one chord per bar depending on the time signature. Only 2/4 and 4/4 time signatures are currently supported for this feature. When you make a selection the chord placeholders will change from having a bar number to having a bar.beat number. There are 3 different options:
2/4(q): When this is selected a 2/4 time signature will be selected for the motif and chords can be programmed on every quarter note beat.
4/4(q): When this is selected a 4/4 time signature will be selected for the motif and chords can be programmed on every quarter note beat.
4/4(h): When this is selected a 4/4 time signature will be selected for the motif and chords can be programmed on every half note beat.

NOTE 1: When using this setting with the Chord Sustain and Bass Sustain Accompaniment Styles, the chord/bass will not be sustained for the whole bar but for the number of beats the same chord/bass notes repeat.

NOTE 2: If you don’t program the chords for all the beats in the last bar, the app will add silence beats for the missing beats.

    Enjoy!

  • Nice set of new features for my uses... thanks.

A new version of Piano Motifs (v2.50) is available. This new version has the following new features:

    • New Voice Leading Arpeggio melody setting. When this setting is selected the melody will play a random voice leading arpeggio with notes from the chord being played on each bar.
    • Added display of key and scale when shifting semitones of a section in the Arrangement Screen.
    • Enhanced the randomization of arpeggios for both melody and accompaniment.
    • Added new chord progressions for randomly generated motifs.
    • Minor bug fixes and enhancements.

Try the new Voice Leading Arpeggio for melody. Great for creating melody variations on a chord progression.

    Enjoy!

  • @azul3D_Apps Thanks for this great piece of software! Is it possible to export the 3rd Track Accomp to MIDI for importing it into my 1010music Blackbox? Would be nice if there was an 3-file export option (also loop ready).

Hi @spltunes, currently only the "MIDI - 3 Track" option exports the 3rd track in a MIDI file with the melody and accompaniment. I could add an option for 3-file export. To make a MIDI file loop ready you just need to go to Settings and set the "MIDI Export Loop Ready" to "On".

  • @azul3D_Apps , just thought I’d say many thanks for your continued work on PM. I’ve been using it for a few tracks lately and the quality of music that pops out is fantastic. Thank you.

  • This option would be awesome 👏
