@azul3D_Apps , just thought I’d say many thanks for your continued work on PM. I’ve been using it for a few tracks lately and the quality of music that pops out is fantastic. Thank you.

@GeoTony, thanks, gratifying to hear you’re getting quality music from PM. I hope the new features are adding more variety and controllability to the generated music.
Are your new tracks on SoundCloud?

  • Not yet… this weekend or next week depending on how happy I am with other tracks (not PM) 😊

  • Hey @azul3D_Apps, this:

New Voice Leading Arpeggio melody setting. When this setting is selected the melody will play a random voice leading arpeggio with notes from the chord being played on each bar.

Is the bomb. I sometimes do a double take when i hear the results cuz I’m like “wow, is the dude from Coldplay sitting in with me”? And i say that with the utmost respect for how that dude writes sticky melodies.

  • @azul3D_Apps PM is in my top 5 and I have a lot of excellent apps. Wondering if you had considered a humanization/randomization option for velocity and note starts? Awesome if it could be set by percentage. I use Mozaic to humanize now or do it manually, but I figured I’d ask since the swing setting is already there and this would be similar.

  • @azul3D_Apps There's thread on the forum that asks if Swift is useful for MIDI apps and
the general consensus is that it doesn't have access to the realtime thread and it's hard to
do anything involving AUv3. Would you care to comment?

  • Oh, I happened to put my iPad down for a day and look, there’s like seven new updates! At least that’s what it feels like.

    Crazy nice work @azul3D_Apps !

Maybe he is 😉. This setting is great for variations on chord progressions. Try this progression in Eb mixolydian: I-v-v-ii7, Voice Leading Arpeggio Melody and Chord Syncopated Accompaniment, 4/4 Time Signature.

Or for something different you can try in Bmin: Bm-F#-A-E-G-D-Em-F# (chords F# and E are from the parallel major scale), Voice Leading Arpeggio Melody, Chord Syncopated Accompaniment, 4/4 time signature and play it on an acoustic guitar sound.

@king_picadillo, yes I had experimented with some code for humanization, more specifically for timing but wasn’t very happy with the results. Also the way the app is coded it wouldn’t be easy to reproduce, it would be random per play, so don’t know how useful that would be.

@McD, I’m not an expert on this topic but yes, the render block of an AUv3 has to be written in C or C++. Michael, the owner of this forum, wrote a very complete article where he explains why neither ObjC nor Swift should be used on the realtime audio thread.

    Those tracks are beautiful

  • @GeoTony I concur...these are really beautiful and moving pieces. Thanks for the inspiration.

  • I love the ROLI sound packs! They are inspiring sounds and driving them with Piano Motifs is so much fun. It’s the shortest path to film music that I have found. And doing it in AUM opens the door to adding all the FX apps on the iPad. Great album proving the workflow leads to immersive sound worlds. I’m sorry a ROLI is calling it quits.

Really enjoying all your recent updates @azul3D_Apps I get so much joy out of using Piano Motifs to build upon.

You can nab the file here:
    https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/0YM6w2O_LsE2Mq2nAGwbt-6gA#Holding_back_once_again

Using a few plug-ins so your mileage may vary…but using native synths.

    Cheers

@echoopera, mysterious and intriguing! Very happy to hear you are enjoying the new features.

  • Thanks @RJB , @echoopera , @McD And @azul3D_Apps for listening and the nice comments.
Couldn’t have done them without you @azul3D_Apps !
I think Roli Noise is a bit like the current thread on IAA deprecation. At some stage it will probably stop working but today it works and is great so why not use it 😊

  • @azul3D_Apps I'll need a master degree on piano motifs if you keep adding features, great work!

Here is a small fragment I did with a Piano Motif progression

It would be nice, to have a LOOP-button in PM - especially to try out different synths in MIDI-Out-mode.

Nice! Great to see Piano Motifs as the foundation to build upon creatively.

    Hi @Iskander,
In the MIDI-Out screen there is a configurable parameter called Loop Count. You can set this parameter to 1,2,4,8 or infinite and it determines how many times the motif will be looped when you play the motif.

    Good idea.

  • Once we get a randomize button, we can make music without really doing anything but
button pushing. Something we could teach a 5 year old to do and get them on TV as an
"iPad Mozart". The first person to pimp out their kid this way will be "ignored" because
it reflects poorly on the rest of us.

A new version of Piano Motifs (v2.51) is now available. This version has the following new features:

    • New Tonic Chord Melody Constraint. When this Melody Constraint is selected the generated melody will only have notes from the tonic chord of the motif.
    • The Random Chord Suspend accompaniment is now available as an Accomp Style (Chord Suspend). When this Accomp Style is selected an accompaniment with random chord beats played per bar will be generated. The chords played can be either a plain triad, a sus2 triad or sus4 triad chord.
    • Randomized initial inversion for Voice Leading Arpeggios for both melody and accompaniment.
    • Added 3-file MIDI export mode. In this mode 3 different MIDI files will be exported, one for the melody, one for the accompaniment and one for the third track. Please note that some apps (like AudioShare) do not accept more than one file as input.
    • Minor bug fixes and improvements.

Give the new melody and accompaniment styles a try and remember, if you are enjoying Piano Motifs please consider leaving a review in the App Store.

    Enjoy!

  • @azul3D_Apps Thanks for implementing the 3-file-Export. This is great for using the Midi-Files in my Blackbox. Big compliment, you are a great and fast responsive developer!

I have created a tutorial that explores the accompaniment lock functionality in Piano Motifs:

Piano Motifs is using MIDI Out to play the melody and accompaniment on Pure Piano and a Roli Noise pad for the third track.

    Check it out.

  • @azul3D_Apps any chance you can extend the tempo beyond 150 bpm? I was just trying to create a melody alongside a 160 bpm track I’m working on. Thx!
