It's been a while since I contributed a demo of this great little app. I picked out a nice variation from the offered defaults and saved it to 2 MIDI files (melody and accompaniment). I imported the MIDI's into a StaffPad session and assigned some instruments. I rendered the results into 4 Wave files and loaded them into AUM file players and then picked out a Pure Piano line over the top of the whole thing. Recorded and uploaded to SoundCloud. So, simple to generate some orchestral sounding material than can be used to make some sketches quickly.

@McD, another workflow with nice results.

A new version of Piano Motifs (v2.45) is now available. This version has the following new feature:

    • Added a Melody Harmonize option. When this option is turned on, 3rd interval or 6th interval harmony note will be randomly generated for some melody notes.
    • Minor bug fixes and enhancements.

If you are enjoying Piano Motifs please consider leaving a review in the App Store.

    Enjoy!

Awwwwww yeeeeahhhhhhh, the melody harmonize option is a winner! I've got some interesting stuff going almost instantly. Nice work!

Glad to hear! Here's another example:

  • My contribution to today’s activity…
The accompaniment track from PM is being fed through ChordJam to trigger chords that are then playing Roli Noise Strings and Horns. Harp is from ThumbJam.

    Lovely track, Tony. Very cinematic.

    Simply lovely!

  • Also again a big thanks from me :)
I always come back to this app ^^

  • Thanks a lot @lukesleepwalker :)
This was only a quick experiment 🙈

  • @geotony, soothing and relaxing piece.

@JimP4nsen , nice staggered entry of guitar and drums. That last chord of the phrase is unexpected but works great.

I guess, I'll participate in the fun. Just a quick experiment of 3 track MIDI sent to Garageband with a drum track added.

  • These are really great examples of what can be done with the output of this app :)

  • Great work @McD , @JimP4nsen and @azul3D_Apps , Such variety. Interested @JimP4nsen in what your technique was for creating your piece?

  • @GeoTony : Thanks :) To be honest, I cheated a bit as I used Ableton Live ...
I basically exported one motif with all 3 channels from the app. The first two tracks were then played by a Piano from Analog Lab. And the third one was used for the Guitar in Kontakt and for an arpeggiator.
    The drum loop was premade.

  • Thanks @JimP4nsen , not sure there is any such thing as cheating in this game…

  • For people who’s chord recognition skills are lacking, like mine. I’ve found the app tonality works perfect in realtime showing the chords that piano motif is generating. Amazed to see the progressions it’s coming up with. Great learning tool for me

  • @jgm12

How do you technically do that?

I have both apps but have no idea how to combine them that way.

  • Piano Motif is sending midi out to AUM. Tonality is a midi processor on same channel as chords are sent. Start piano motif, switch to AUM and view chord and scale

  • Ahhh!

Here I was searching for either app in AUM under “Audio” instead of “MIDI” 🤓

    Thanks so much!

  • You’re not alone, happened to me as well 😀

  • Hi,

Could anybody help to set up Roland Zenbeats to receive Midi notes from Piano Motifs, please?

    Thanks.

  • And another one :)
This one is build around a couple of motifs that were created by the app using the lock feature.

Wow you got a lot of mileage out of that. Almost sounded like a pianist improvising.

  • Thanks @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr :)
I always wanted to layer multiple of these motifs on top of each other.

    That is lusciously gorgeous!

    Excellent work, @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr.

  • Oooops, I meant @JimP4nsen 🤓

  • Thanks a lot @SNystrom 🙏🏼

I’m not sure I understand the ‘progression can’t have undefined bars’ error?

Hi @gusgranite, this warning appears when you finish editing a programmed progression and the progression has a bar or bars that don't have either a chord or a silent bar associated to them. Basically make sure that you don't have any holes in your progression.

I have created a tutorial that shows how to quickly generate an ambient piano motif.
