Hey @azul3D_Apps , I got a thought on my mind and just wanted to hear if it's even possible: to see a text indicator of the current chord playing and a super useful next. See image over what went into my head.😂 If this is not doable, no problem.

Hi @Pxlhg, that's a very nice render! Thanks for your feedback, but unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to offer this functionality. The chord progression used for randomly generated motifs is the result of a base chord progression that can then be modified by the random accompaniment chosen and many other random internal parameters that can even vary by beat, so it is really not easy to abstract this information for display.

Thank you for clarifying. I was thinking about monitor apps like e.g midi tools: 'Midi Monitor' where you do get the info but very cluttered and in note numbers. There's gotta be a way to convert those to an actual chord?

I use Tonality's Chord Identifier and point MIDI channel 3 at it (you have to enable the MIDI channel 3 and set it to "chord"). It's the most reliable way I've found to figure out the underlying chord progression. I often will then take that chord progression and program it back into Piano Motifs, sometimes making tweaks to the chord progression if I don't like a specific change or bar of the progression.

    Tonality maybe?

  • Any word on if there’s going to be a sale on the IAP?

  • A new version of Piano Motifs (v4.44) is now available. What’s new in this version:

    • New option for the Melody Constraint Setting: Chromatic. When this option is selected, the melody will have some notes that are not in the current scale (non-diatonic notes).
    • New option for the Call/Response Accomp Style Setting. You can now define what the accompaniment will play on the odd bar (the bar where the melody is playing the Call melody), either a chord or a bass note.

    Enjoy!

  • Nice features… Medium Tip.

App and iap so cheap. Basically worth regarding as on permasale, surely!

These are great updates! I'm getting some spine-tinglingly interesting results with Chromatic constraint... Thx!

  • Oh, how I love the chromatic melody constraint! Here’s a modest video in PM, with no fancy AUv3 accoutrements. @azul3D_Apps did you make any changes to the velocity settings in Serendipity mode? For instance, listen to the nuanced way the chord is played in the fifth bar of this video—the motif backs off the velocity of that chord (followed by the stronger melody) in a way that feels very human!

Yeah, buy the bro a coffee for being a genius and sharing his creation with us. Least I can do!

Nice @lukesleepwalker, really happy you're liking the new setting! No changes to the velocity in Serendipity mode, must've been serendipity ☺️. I hadn't tried Chromatic melody with Serendipity Accomp, it seems to work well.

Edit: About note velocities. The note velocities in a motif are defined either randomly or depending on the beat with respect to the time signature.

  • A new version of Piano Motifs (v4.45) is now available. What's new in this version:

    • Added a new Melody Constraint option: Every Other Arp. When this option is selected the melody will be composed of a random arpeggio on every other bar of the motif, i.e. one bar will be have an arpeggio and another bar will not.
    • Improved the algorithm for melody arpeggio generation.

If you're enjoying the music generated by Piano Motifs and you like all the new features being added, please consider leaving a review in the App Store.

    Enjoy!

An example of a motif generated using the new Every Other Arp Melody Constraint can be found here:

  • A piece generated by Piano Motifs using:

    1. Serendipity w/Bass Accomp Style
    2. Melody Harmony set to Root (50%)
    3. Melody Triplets On

    @lukesleepwalker, I think you’ll appreciate this one.

That's so nice, @azul3D_Apps! It is very much like a lot of my recent work using Piano Motifs, sometimes with just piano but increasingly with string arrangements and other apps. Question: are you combining separate saved motifs in this one? (It looks like it based on the motif names.) My new favorite thing is to something similar to this but use the append motif feature to create extended pieces that flow nicely, mostly by locking the arrangement, then locking the melody, sometimes locking to a chord progression--but always changing the percentage of melody notes and harmony notes. It's just crazy how good you can get a nice flowing piece rolling along. That said, would love to be able to enable triplets in append mode! I'll see if I can post one of my recent creations; was working on one this morning that I quite like. Most of my compositions I write on my iPhone while on my morning walk. Hope you enjoy coming on a morning walk with me, @azul3D_Apps

Thanks @lukesleepwalker. In this one I really liked the phrase generated starting on beat 9 (0:22). This is an Arrangement using the same workflow you follow: using the Append Motif feature and locking the Accompaniment, but it’s basically one main motif followed by a 4 bar and a 1 bar motif for closure.

Unfortunately, due to the way things are implemented for triplets it isn’t possible to arrange motifs with Melody Triplets On and motifs with them Off.

Please do post your creations, would love to listen to them.

PS: My virtual self is surely enjoying the morning walks 😊

A new version of Piano Motifs (v4.47) is now available. What’s new in this version:

    • New Arpeggio Mult Oct Accomp Style option. When this option is selected the accompaniment will be an arpeggio that spans multiple octaves.
    • Improved the Bass Accompaniment generation algorithm for more variety. Use the Bass, Bass Sustain or Bass Syncop Accomp Styles to get these new accompaniments.
    • Fixed issue where Accompaniment Mutes weren't working on the AUv3 MIDI Plug-In.

    Enjoy the Holidays!

  • One of the most dedicated developers out there! Thank you sir!!!

  • Almost every page of this thread = “ A new version of Piano Motifs is now available…”

Yeah, just seeing that makes me think I should buy it. I haven’t as I play piano pretty well and just don’t generally use sequencers of any kind unless I’m aiming for something very mechanical. Who knows though, it might give me some inspiration to take a different approach.

A new version of Piano Motifs (v4.49) is now available. What's new in this version:

    • New Melody Rest Every N Bars Setting. Use this setting to force the melody to have a rest (silence bar) every 2, 4 or 8 bars. When you select the value of 2 (Rest Every 2 Bars) you have the option for the melody to rest either on the Even or on the Odd bars.
    • New Chord option in the User Defined Melody Constraint. This option allows you to select a set of notes that are to be played on a motif. Instead of the notes being the notes of the scale of the motif (Tonic, the default for this constraint) they will be the corresponding notes of the chord being played on a bar.
    • Fixed issue where Accomp Mutes weren't being applied when loading an AUv3 session.
    • Fixed issue where in some cases the Accomp Rest Every N Bars wasn't correct.

An example of a motif using the Melody Rest Every N Bars Setting can be seen here:

In this motif the Melody Rest Every N Bars is set to 2 and Odd bars and it is combined with Accomp Rest Every N Bars set to 4, giving the motif some pauses. Try it out!

  • The new melody rest feature is fantastic, especially paired with the accompaniment rest! Thanks again, @azul3D_Apps
