It's still only a small minority that attempts to seriously make music on an iPad, it's possible that not all apps have much to gain in adding features that I think of as "standard." Notion seems to do quite well without midi or AB. I'm not feeling any sense of entitlement and actually liked the feedback about the app not being perfect. It enjoyed a rare 3 pages of buildup prior to release
I agree that we are living in (app-wise at least) a bit of a golden period and for that we should be grateful (even if I do worry that sometimes having so much stuff proves the idea of the benefits of constraints in art, but that's probably just my problem .
However, I can also see it from a 'benefit to the dev' point of view that this is a very polite forum of seemingly serious users who want the very best for apps and from them. Invaluable user feedback and constructive review. Honest focus groups and testers (for that's what we are in essence) are hard to come by and worth a lot. So, both sides.

I don't think it's true that it is a small minority. Just typing in 'AudioBus' in twitter search will show feeds from all over the world. Let alone any other audio/music app names. And Notion does have some midi capabilities, does it not? I do not own the app, but it does mention midi throughout the app description. As an example of what point I was trying to make, in reference to basic functions, if you look at Notion's version updates in the App Store, you can see that what I would consider basic functionality has been slowly added to the app, over the course of the last 3 years. That's a lot of updates, and kudos to the devs for continuing support. However, a two year wait for sharing midi files in iTunes is a bit long, don't you think? Do you see my point?
Anyway, this is a thread for Oscilab, and I don't wish to sidetrack it. I'm grateful the developers put out an app we can enjoy, and with AudioBus integration, it will become even better. I'll enjoy it, and use it however I can.
I do see your many good points @ArcaneScreams.
I think that when/where additional features like midi, AB, vitual midi, IAA etc are in high demand we will see them implemented because apps won't sell without them. I don't think that interference in the market should be necessary here (a midi clock standard may be a different story). As things are now I believe that iMPC Pro, despite its lack of important features, will be a top-ten seller for a very long time. I think that when the majority are serious users we will see a price-rise and features added as more or less standard.
I meant virtual midi with Notion It's a great app and probably lots of "serious" users strutting their string sections on the bus. I do feel confident that Notion's marketing analysts would have run the numbers though. If it made an important difference to most users, I would have my virtual midi and AB effects chain.
Oops sorry. Now back to Oscilab, which is a good app, worth the price.
@DarbyA Hey, I sent you a pm. :-)
@KlaatuNinja : Thanks, I almost purchased this but the Soundcloud samples made me think again. Great interface and plenty of features I guess, but it appears to be more suited to music styles I'm just not interested in.
Smitematter's review of Oscilab, echoing how beneficial AB implementation would be if the devs did decide to add it in future:

More features? I'm sure they will come - I think the dev has even stated that but I wouldn't want to wait a minute longer for this to be released. As long as I can use an app in my workflow then I am happy to accept it for what it is and Oscilab has performance record, mixdown, export with open in and AudioCopy so that's enough for me at first release.
I knew this app was for me the minute I first viewed the promo video but I have been pleasantly surprised by it's capabilities, design, intuitive interface, features and launch price. I'm very happy.
Brilliant app for laying down drum and bass lines well impressed.
Expressing a personal opinion shouldn't be necessarily viewed as 'knocking'. If we all just put every app on a pedestal and praise them because of the effort put in or the low price we'll be going against the very nature or the place called forum. It is like sitting at a dinner table eating a dinner. I think it's great to appreciate the effort but a constructive criticism shouldn't be seen as rudeness or lack of appreciation.

Well said. Music is a personal thing and everyone has a right to say things how they see it. User feedback is part of what will ensure app developers don't take their users for granted. If an app is not particularly suited to your workflow irrespective of how cool the UI is then there is no need to say otherwise.
iOS music app users are very knowledgeable and you cannot pull the wool over their eyes. There is no sense of entitlement. What there is what I will call robust feedback from users. This is great. The launch price of this app at 2:99 doesn't mean users cannot give their 2 pence. Hell, users even pan 0.69 apps. DMTOUCH, a free app which has a great UI and velocity-layered drum sounds, was even panned mercilessly by users and bloggers alike
360 feedback is what makes iOS music excellent so let the music play however you want to play it. Give a 5 stars or a 1 star review if that is what rocks your boat. If the developer of Oscilab reads the feedback here, he or she will realise there is more work to be done on the app.
I really wanted to avoid chiptune sounds and bleeps so here is Oscilab using samples only...
Hey @Trueyorky is that a cello or a trumpet?
@Supadom the sample is listed as horn.
Ok, now I'm interested - nice drums too.
Damn, I'd already decided I could do without this app, then Trueyorky had to go and post that...
Ha ha. Enjoy!!
@Fitz @Zymos
Cool, when you've had a play with it let us know your toughts.
Here's an attempt to push the app away a bit from it's inbuilt stylistic tendencies. Only 8 bars, just a test. It's a hard app to steer in a particular direction, I think.
Nicely done. Sounds like the beginning of a TV ad selling something that caters to a mild case of Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt

double asterisks around a name doesn't let them know you've mentioned them. Similar to how you don't get a notification when some one quotes you. (like this one.
Anyone had a crash when deleting scenes? Had one just now and it erased my song. I mean the file is there, but it loads whatever session was loaded before, not the one I was working on. I don't like this auto-save thing anyway..
Otherwise I really like the app, really well designed and great sound. I'm sure it will improve with time.
@syrupcore said:
What does then?
@FRibeiro I've had zero crashes with this app.

I almost didn't reply, cause you,screwed up when you tagged me. ;-)
Liking it so far, still a bit confused by it. Definitively a nifty interface, and sounds good too. I hate chiptuney stuff, but this can do a lot more than that.
Messed around with the included songs, and had no problems with scene changing (ipad2).
It just did it again. Reinstalled, opened one of the demos (Beastie Noise), saved with another name, deleted a scene, copied a scene, crashed... When I load my renamed file, it does not change anything, the pre-loaded file remains. iPad Air iOS 7.0.6
I'm trying to replicate the problem on my iPad 4 (latest iOS) but it seems ok.
Very strange. I'm on iPad Air 7.1.1

Shit man, thanks. I thought people didn't like me but all it was those double asterix thingies. I hope Syrupcore tells me again how to do it or I'll be damned to isolation. Glad you're liking the app.
@supadom
I thought that doing the above was how to notify somebody too.
