What I mean is that with a vertical slider at the bottom of its travel I can't 'grab' it - I have to click at a point above it - the slider jumps to where I click, and then I can grab it...Hope that makes more sense...😊
I picked up the demo for PC. Those oscillators have got attitude, but the interface I found, even on PC, isn't pleasant to use. The pin point precision required to pick up some sliders gets to be a PITA. As much as no one really likes clicks to open options, areas such as MPE controls really don't need to be on screen all the time, that would free up real estate and make the core functions easier on the eye. I don't get why the AR envelope time is type input only or why switching to harmonic ratios doesn't at least grey out the individual oscillator pitch controls that aren't relevant in this mode. It would be nice if the oscillator pitch controls had some slewing because it's quite jarring how they jump, compared to the original (I imagine) big knob with a great deal of presicion. Somehow it bothers me that the Gain sliders which come under envelope control are in the same block as static sliders, functionally irrelevant but that puts them in a different class. The per oscillator modulation sliders are also in a different class but they have their own block. OK I'm just rambling but it's an overall impression.
Sonically it's interesting and that's its real strength. I just hope the interface gets some evolution because, my opinion, it is a weak link.
I agree with the above, the harmonic ratio slider really should be much bigger and easier to micro adjust as it’s possibly the most important thing to tweak while it’s all running but it’s pretty tricky to get what ratio you want without typing it in...
+1, great post, did you inform the dev of your views?
I'd love it if the envelope time could be changed on the fly with a swipe motion of some kind
Alrighty then, so record the output and import into sampler of choice it is. Audio out put would be most helpful on this.
Definitely this pairs nicely with a sampler but it is possible to play alone. It's just not an ideal interface, no question about it
Be warned that if you save sessions involving Fundamental in AUM using instances of Fundamental with the trig set to ‘on’, they are likely to crash the AU when you try to reopen that session...Sometimes they open ok, sometimes not....why would this be inconsistent, I wonder?
I’ve definitely had this happen, way above my pay grade to know why though
Sinan said it is some limitation of hosts. Above my pay grade too though, lol...
Here's my first jam with Fundamental. Had to ride the faders carefully to avoid crackling, as even this modest arrangement brought my 2016 iPad Pro to it's knees. (some glitching when dsp hits +100). All sounds are Fundamental, except percussion.
My first impressions of Fundamental are... I LOVE it. I downloaded it immediately after getting up to speed with @Gavinski 's tutorial. Mad props for the tut, thanks to you I was able to hit the ground running. I'm looking forward to exploring further how Fundamental can be incorporated not only into experimental / ambient styles, but also into more traditional electronic music formats. It will also be fun to explore the makings of a 'virtual test equipment studio', as we were discussing with @Svetlovska and @ohwell earlier in the thread.
hmm, despite the update fix, scales are still not being recalled in an AUM preset for me.
Did the update fix the AU scalings. Or did they just add IAA to buy them some more time to do that?
Do you mean loading different scales or the sizing problems? You can load custom scales, but the AU sizing issue is still there - and will possibly never be sorted as the dev is being a bit difficult about it...
One thing I wish was possible was that when the oscillators are in harmonic mode, that oscillators 2-8 would still respond to frequency modulation. It doesn't seem like this works though, unless I'm missing something? Otherwise, is there a way to introduce vibrato / FM to those oscillators without effecting oscillator 1? (in harmonic mode)
edit:
seems oscillator fine tune doesn't respond on osc 2-8 in harmonic mode as well.
Also got an instant crash when I tried to modulate 'harmonic ratio' with a midi lfo. I think I'll start emailing the dev as well.
@aleyas
I have had occasional crashes too. There are definitely some instabilities. I do encourage anyone with probs to email the dev. I have suggested a beta group, I think it is really necessary, If you think that would be good, it is worth seconding....
Glad you enjoyed the tutorial Aleyas. It seems very easy, actually, once it is explained clearly, but it really took me a while to get to the point that I understood the small details enough to be able to do the vid...some things were real headscratchers
Of course fine tune doesn’t work for any oscillator than 1 when it is in harmonic layout. In that layout, everything is relative to the position of osc 1, it is the only thing that can be changed. Though actually, thinking about it, it would still be cool to be able to make those adjustments, and I can’t see a technical reason why it wouldn’t be possible. Suggest it to Sinan, maybe.
In the meantime, if you want to do tweaks, simply set the osc freqs manually to the intervals you want, then tweak individual sliders etc.
I asked the dev if he considers to do something about the scaling, but got no answer.
Thanks to all early adopters for doing all the heavy lifting. Still hope this will reach the 'good' iOS standard.
We shouldn't give devs an easy pass even if it sounds good or comes from pc... TAL, SKIIID f.e are both pretty bad AU UI wise...
TAL uuu ! mind your language, its my Unholy Grail > @0tolerance4silence said:
Now imagine that sound with UI that works for you not against you
Didn't really want to get into a one on one, hopefully they'll drop by here. I think the criticism is all fairly constructive. Personally, if an App isn't that good I just don't bother saying anything.
Tal's fine?? What kinda weird-ass dimensions iPad do you have?!
I'd like to nominate Fundamental for the following awards.
The second is a sad but true😂😂😂 worst preset management of all time😎😎😎
@Ailerom 3. Not scaling
Fully agree with 1! I use it with the Sensel Morph which is made for this.
Agree with both, unfortunately it looks like 2 is not going to change either...
Maybe we can get these categories added to the Music Radar award schedule.
is the preset management as bad with the mac plugin ?
Yeah stupidest preset management ever. Just let us create a group! I've never ever seen a system where they ask you to backup your factory presets because you have to save over them. Plus, the factory presets are terrible. This is only good for a drone machine with subtle movements. I don't regret buying it, but I probably wouldn't have if I'd used it first. Can't imagine paying desktop prices for this.
