If Windows... try running the server as administrator... And I removed all other controllers from Live (running the Test Flight Version)...

Saw you are on Mac... Still..

  • @RajahP thanks for the reply. I did remove all other controllers, as a precaution, yet still no luck. Ive tried probably about 30 times now haha. every possible way. Running the app first, launching ableton first, restarting my mac, re-installing the script, restarting the app, restarting my ipad etc etc.

Im hoping its a launch bug and will get sorted soon.

I finally got it going after trying many approaches... How about installing the new server?

BTW... Seems pretty nice on multiple iPads..

  • @RajahP this is my first time using it, so i believe im starting with the new server.

at least, i installed whatever server is listed on their site.

    everything looks good in ableton

    just nothing on the ipad

  • Updated the app (iOS 13.4 iPad 2018) + server (MBP running Catalina).. Quick test.. everything connects 1st try.. 👍 will give it a more thorough test later tonight..

£84.99 is an erroneous price for the original versions, Either that or they’ve priced it that way to stop people inadvertently buying the legacy version ?

No sale or bundle/upgrade price available yet as far as I can see.

I seem to remember something about overpricing it so people didn’t buy it, and bought the new Pro version instead. It’s been reduced to £29.99 +IAPS now, but the Pro is the same price. I guess everything will be revealed soon.

Seems it is released Ver 1.5... $19....

Thank, yeah. Think I’ll wait for a bit of feedback first.

Anyone know how long the sale lasts?

  • So.... what will I need to connect? Cable? WiFi? ANY additional software?

  • Is this working for everyone?

  • Apple has agreed to refund my purchase. I have never done this before. The app is still on my ipad, and is recommending an update. I assumed that the app would be invalidated. I am watching for the bundle to appear. How exactly does this work?

  • As a recent entrant to the Ableton church (not yet a believer, but curious) my (obvious) question would be: Is the hooking up easy or does one need a CompSci degree?

Just uninstall the app and buy it again.

It’s quite easy, but can be temperamental in connection, usually when you first install or upgrade the server. When it works it’s excellent, akin to Push on iOS.

I’ve got the LK version, and it’s been a bit of a pain with disconnections. Hoping this one is better, so hoping for a bit more assurance before taking the plunge, though the big gaps between updates and negative feedback is putting me off.

It looks the business though, so I’m sorely tempted.

@knewspeak @MonzoPro Thanks chaps. Sorry to be repetitive, but is the dodgy connection part because, well, the connection can be a bit dodgy or because it's HARD to set up to start with? Happy to dive in, but just have the usual ignorant fear of staring at the thing in a funk/fog :)

  • @JohnnyGoodyear @MonzoPro All I did was follow one of these guides.. step by step, they've got it covered very well.. the latest server links are right at the top of these guides too..

    https://zerodebug.com/#/touchable/setup-mac
    https://zerodebug.com/#/touchable/setup-win

    1. Install the app/server on desktop/laptop - Easy
    2. Install the scripts (needed by Ableton Live) - the scripts installer needs to know the location of your Live install - it'll be in the drop down window anyway.. possibly a bit tricky if you have more than 1 version of Live (e.g. 9 + 10)
    3. Setup Live (midi preferences) - Make sure your midi prefs window looks exactly like the one in the guide Triple check it.. This is important
    4. Setup Touchable Pro on iPad - As easy as touching the wifi symbol and connecting.. can also be done by wire if needed..

It's a thing of beauty when it's running.. Soooo worth it! As @knewspeak mentioned, far cheaper than a Push..

Running Maschine as a VSTi.. Ableton Start/Stop with my iPad app is sweet..

  • I have a push 1, which I love, and a touch screen Dell, which works really well with touch on Ableton
But also thinking of getting this, as Ableton can be a bit small in certain areas, and think having an iPad with this running, would mean I can have certain parts of Ableton larger on the iPad.
I had touchable 3, which I used sometimes, when it worked, and the left hand pane used to not display folder list would be missing
Have all the faults been ironed out now ?
And is £20 the right price I should be paying if I already own touchable 3 ?

  • There was mention of an bundle that owners of T3 could take advantage of. I am checking for this often, but have seen nothing yet.

Thanks for that. I'll probably run it as a wired connection, that worked a lot better when I was using LK.

Ah that's interesting, I've got Maschine as well. Be cool to see how that integrates.

I don't remember it being that stressful with LK, which is very similar, just irritating with disconnections. More stable with a cable though.

I think I will get this, since Live is my main DAW and I couldn't afford a Push in a thousand years. Seeing a few issues reported on their forum though, so will pause until they're resolved.

@knewspeak @royor @RajahP or anyone else who knows:

I can see the app is pretty well covered for Session view, so that's great. What I want to do is use it to record a performance, and then edit this afterwards via the Arrangement view.

I can see this view isn't supported by the app - but is it possible to record a Session view performance with the app, into Arrangement view?

That's the whole point of it really, for me, as the app will allow me to be a bit more creative with the Session view performance.

  • @MonzoPro
I picked up a push for £100 about 6 months ago.
    Well worth the money
Was struggling a bit with Ableton, but once I got the push, things seemed to fall into place, was really getting to grips with the set up.
Then covid happened, my wife was told to work from home, at the start of march, I came back from work and found my music desk had been cleared, and her work stuff took over, so push been sat in corner since march....will take a few nights to get back into it I guess.
But the short answer is save some money, definitely recommend the push, and am now slowly saving for a push 2, might take a year or so, but I don't mind, also keeping an eye out for a livid ds1 mixer, sorry to ramble on

I’m so cramped for space here I couldn’t fit a Push on the desk anyway :) I like the idea of using the iPad as it uses less space, but yeah, a hardware controller would be better. £100 is a good deal.

My wife is working from home too, though using the dining table downstairs, so the only restrictions I have is keeping the volume down - she’s providing telephone support for vulnerable people shielding from the virus, so don’t think they’d appreciate my weird racket in the background!

  • @MonzoPro i have not yet got it to work. have run the latest dmg installer, and have the updated app. followed the instruction to a t, its just not working.

    Shove up Monzo.

  • Snap 1 more space on the fence for me also
Really want to hear some positives before the sale finishes
Also worried that there will a lack of support, and a year later I will be having to buy another new version
As I recall, I got it working from watching a few dodgy bad quality YouTube clips... I watched a clip from their site last night, realised it was a year old. Just seemed to be lacking in the final home stretch from the company with the set up
But I really want to be wrong this time

Yes.. you can trigger your clips (and tweak stuff) in Touchable Pro while you’re recording in Arrangement view.. You can even start arrangement recording with the main Record button on the app (I guess it works as long as there is nothing else armed to record)
Just did an automation test in Arrangement view and it worked as expected.. Volume fades, panning + fx sends are recorded per track + not per clip.. which is how you’d want it for capturing your actual performance.. if you’re editing that after the fact, anything is possible then.. hope this helps a bit..

Found a few Arrangement discussions here..
