@MonzoPro glad that the cutoff issue has been solved

Yep that's fine now thanks, I'm having a lot of crashes now though. I've been running it via AUM into my laptop, recording via IDAM into Live. Two instances triggered via Riffer. When I've dragged longer samples (2 minutes-ish long) into the app it's bombed out, and when I reload both instances are empty.

I'm guessing this is because I'm using an older iPad though, rather than a bug in the app, and I've pushed the sample length too far, so I'll stick to shorter audio files from now on.

@MonzoPro if you want to send me the sEGments presets that you're using and the AUM preset to [email protected] I can see if I can optimize the app more (I also have an iPad Air2 to test)

I find Egoist has the same restrictions. When chopping, I always run it single instance AU with shorter samples (under 2 mins). If only using it as playback then I can add a few more instances. I expect it is iOS/iPad physics but maybe @ElliottGarage can still squeeze some optimizations.

@lukesleepwalker what's a typical workflow to record quantized to host? how to sync?

Put sEGments in an FX slot for a sound generator and get the transport going. Just as with recording a file in AUM the record button in sEGments would allow the user to "arm" the recorder so that it starts recording as soon as the host hits the first quanta of a loop, then the next press of the record button arms the recording to end when it loops back to the first quanta. The resulting recording in sEGments will therefore be a perfect loop with no need to trim off the start and end. Detect transients or chop up evenly and boom.... Ready for mayhem.

  • Yes, samples are loaded in device memory and AudioUnit has just a limited access to resources (depending on the device model)

@lukesleepwalker cool! Just I need to put an option to switch from normal recording to quantized recording....

    Yes please!

  • This is a test... this is only a test...😉

I really like being able to export the slices into Pulse, it feels like I have a little auv3 beatmaker I can use within aum. Maybe you should just make your own Beatmaker type DAW since you actually support your apps and they run a lot more smoothly lol

Haven’t dug much into sEG much.. Did a little export to Pulse... looking forward to more integration between the two.. and midi export/import for Pulse... can be a master midi drum editor..

And here's where it gets really interesting for a developer. Do they continue to hone this into a world class sampler app - basically get as close to the feature set of BM3's sampler as possible but in AU format (with their own special flavour, of course)? Or do they start to build out integration with Pulse and potentially other apps? Or do they say 'job done!' and just work on bugs?

My vote would be for making this THE AUv3 sampler on iOS. That's the gap that sEGments is filling for me. It is getting me as close to the BM3 sampler when I am in a different DAW/host.

Yeah, seems fine with shorter files.

  • This goes for pulse also but is there a way to share as an audio sample to another app?

  • @ElliottGarage
    i’m getting a strange “glitch”:
In Aum i want to record an audio file with sEGments in the fx slot. After recording, the graphic presentation of the wave file is shifted to the right (about 1.5 secs). When you hit the button for slice 1, the sound starts at the slice marker.
This is annoying, and i think it has to do with the latest patch.
“Open in” from AudoShare still not working.

    Huzzah! Thanks for listening.

    Works for me (stand-alone)

  • edited June 2020

@Identor that's happening if you have the 'SLICE TO ZERO CROSSING' option on...basically, to avoid click on the slice attack, it searches the first zero crossing point in the slice to start playing. Now since the recorded file has silence at the beginning it 'ignores' it... I need to add some kind of control for this scenario. Meanwhile you can manually move your slice position to the waveform start or switch 'slice to zero crossing' off in the settings.

About AudioShare, I'm opening files from 'share' button and choose 'copy to Segments' and it open the file correctly (in the standalone app); I can access the Ausioshare folder from sEGments import window. Can you give me more info?

  • It may not be for others, but this is news to me!

I don’t read every thread, so it may have been mentioned 100+ times.

... I thought Drambo was going to be the first to do this, but Thesys (witch is an AUv3) is caperble of hosting AU’s in its standalone form..

Things click when they click - don’t really use Thesys so there’s that.

    However!

    It’s very nice to know!

I also tried a few time this afternoon to open from there, no dice. I thought it was m4a, but wav is the same.
You’ll notice it even locks up the presets tab/button/dropdown..

    @ElliottGarage,

Not sure what’s going on here, since I just test the open in.
Have only imported to 2 or 3 files in sEGments so far. Nothing over a few MB’s.
Have not downloaded any additional content..

    1.27GB

Thanks for the info. Youre right about “slice to zero”. I was focused on the gap that seems to be an error. If i move the marker to the start of the sample, it does function as normal.

In the video below you can see that sEGments doesn’t show up in the list.
Audioshare folder is accessible from sEGments import folder, as you mentioned.

  • @Identor very strange...can you try restarting your iPad? sometimes iOS needs a restart of the device to refresh

@KING when you save a new preset it removes unused files...can you try and see if the size decrease?

    Yep! Phew!

But why so large? As mentioned I only tried very small files, as you can see the total of around 3 files.

I did a hard reset, but still doesn’t show up.
I came across something strange. If you start up sEGments as stand-alone, does it start up as IAA? If so, it doesn’t show up as IAA in the list on AUM (video below)
Next thing i’m going to do is reinstall.

  • @Identor I don't support IAA in my app anymore, anyway that has nothing to do with the 'open in'. Could you try to see if sEGments appears in the FILES app open in menu (but I suppose it will miss there too)?

  • Working on something with multiple sEGments // video coming soon!!

Oh, but I guess sEGments can record it’s own output in this mode. Going to test!

It doesn’t show up either from within the Files app. (Files->AudioShare->Open In)

After reinstall it doesn’t work either.

PS: I’m not angry, i still like the app :)
