Yes... this is one of my favorite apps of the year so far and it’s only getting better. Thanks @ElliottGarage

    +1

sEGments - Key & BPM settings improvements...Now you can also manually input BPM & Key. Coming in the next update!

But that isn't root key for keys mode, right ? I don't see an octave number.

@ElliottGarage latest update issue. Segments is not remembering my start&length points for the last slice after saving or overwriting a project. In the last project tested I had 5 slices. Slice 5 start&length not saved. Ipad Air2 iOS 13.5.1

  • @stormbeats it's a reproducible issue? eventually can you please send me a screen recording of how to recreate it at [email protected] ?
    Thanks

    @Poppadocrock @Lil_Stu07 thanks!!!

@Turntablist no, it sets the loop key & bpm if the automatic detection fails

    @ElliottGarage ok will do. Thanks

  • Just finished (pending mixing/mastering!) a remix using AUM, AB, Xequence 2, some synths, then egpulse and segments for any samples and the vocal.
It’s a vocal with some awkward timings, but the easy slicing and timestretch with segments made it so easy. I was able to make it all fit using just segments, but i knew if not I could just pass the segments slices into a pulse kit if I needed to stretch any sections individually.
I even increased the bpm of the whole project just now and with sync enabled it all stayed perfectly in time.

This is the workflow I’ve been waiting for. Hats off to you @ElliottGarage 🙌

  • Did anyone else notice this bug?

I’m composing a song in cubasis, I use sEGments for one of my tracks. While I’m recording the slices in Cubasis by tapping the pads everything works fine. But in playback mode when the recorded midi event triggers a slice (any slice) it triggers the compressor as well and it makes the track faded till the compressor recovers. My suspicion is that there is a hidden transient in playback mode whenever a slice is triggered.

Any idea? It completely destroys the song.

I haven’t tried it myself but it sounds like maybe disabling midi out on sEGments may fix it.

i used seGments as fx this morning in Aum. i noticed that whatever instrument i use, once segments is ON the sound of the instruments changes. is it only me ? something i should know ? @ElliottGarage

    Thanks!
It didn’t help, but the idea was not bad. I checked what happens if I trigger the slices not by tapping the pads in the app but by an external keyboard. It turned out for some reason the midi notes trigger the compressor.
The compressor turns on when I hit a key and the signal stays compressed till I release the key.
I switched off the midi input within the compressor and the problem has gone.

Now I’m wondering, what feature is it of Fabfilter compressor? I just bought it in the summer sale...

  • Updated....

Seem like syncing has been improved.... Thanks... Digging in...

Unfortunately this app has proved unusable for me. Every single session I’ve tried in AUM, it’s peaked and bombed out. Just did it with three instances, very small, short samples, triggered via Fugue. Happily playing around 10 - 20% CPU, then for no reason went into the red, bombed out, all samples lost. Did the same with LK, and Riffer last night.

The whole point of this for me, was to be able to trigger a range of samples via my MIDI sequencers and record the session live.

Very disappointed with this app. Deleted until I can afford a new iPad.

Might have to delete and reinstall. It was like that for me even after 1st update I deleted and reinstalled and hasn’t happened since

I'll have to try that. I've seen the same challenges as @MonzoPro but am willing to keep trying.

Tried that last night before the last crash. I’ll see if it’s any better after a reboot, but this is Crash City for me.

  • @ElliottGarage when i upload segments in fx, the sound of my audio app changes... is there something i should do or is it a known bug ?

  • Would be great if the keyboard/midi in would play with warping/time stretching. Am I missing something?

No, you’re not missing anything. That’s not a feature of the app.

Seems I can’t record a perfect synched beat loop when I am using the app as a recorder (AUM fx slot).

Say I want to record a drum loop from Launchpad. When I stop the recording (2 bars of an 100bpm drum loop), the displayed bpm is slightly off (e.x. 101.4) and the loop is not playing right. Also the detected bpm is stack at 120.

How does the recording option behaves with you guys?

At least one time the time stretch was a little funky, I had to double the tempo in Segments To get the original pitch of the sample.

  • edited July 2020

@Poppadocrock no, my problem is before recording in segments. let’s say that i play bleass alpha ( or any other app ) , then when i upload segments in the fx slot the sound changes.

i also tried to record in segments this way, and the result is terrible

  • I normally use BM3 sampler, but sEGments has bpm and key detect and lazy chop so it was a no brainer. Been hoping for Serato Sample for IOS and this seemed close in those respects. I loaded a portion of a song recorded from vinyl and it detected the BPM incorrectly by 50+ bpm and not a multiple of the correct bpm (bpm 83 detected 138.5) and also mis-detected key as A when it’s Gm. I loaded about 16 bars, maybe not exactly cut to 16 (16.3 or so) maybe that was the issue? Hopefully updates improve these functions as they are the only reason I bought the app. My current workflow involves Chordify, Audiokeychain, Beat Time!... I was hoping to simplify my workflow. Paid $10 and it’s a new app so I’m not tripping, just hoping...

Gotcha. My mistake. I haven’t done any direct recording into segments Or put it an an fix slot yet so can’t speak on that. Been mostly using as an instrument, sending midi in to trigger pads, on a sample I drag and dropped in....

  • @Poppadocrock same here, that’s why it came as a ( bad ) surprise ! would be great if @ElliottGarage tell us more about what’s going on here... still loving this app greatly

  • @king_picadillo BPM detection works mainly on perfect loop so the problem may be your audio file not being perfectly trimmed. Key detection sometimes may be wrong, I'll work on improve it anyway and maybe add a BPM detection for normal audio file (not loop).
In the last update I added a view where user can insert the right tempo or key when sEGments detected them wrongly, and you can access it by longpressing the BPM or key labels.

@mlau @Poppadocrock I was reported that when sEGments is inserted in the FX slot the monitoring is mono (but the recording is stereo). Could this be your issue? Eventually could you please send me at [email protected] a screen recording showing the audio before and after being recorded into sEGments? Thanks

  • @YannisHatzi in the picture there's no audio imported into sEGments, so 120BPM is just the 'default' value

  • @ElliottGarage i haven’t had any problems was just trying to help out if I could.

I mite, if I have a chance give it a go today and see what happens and report back if any issues..

  • @ElliottGarage tx, will send today

  • edited July 2020

That’s so bizarre. I do not have the issue anymore. There was an update few days ago, it maybe ruled the problem. Sorry for the call @ElliottGarage @Poppadocrock

That’s all good news anyway 😎

  • @ElliottGarage you are the most responsive DEV I’ve ever seen next to the guy that made synthjacker. You put Intua and IK to shame. Thank you! Like I said I bought the app with the understanding that improvements are coming, my current workflow works so I’ll sit tight. If you do add imperfect loop bpm detection and improve key detection (Maybe add M/m or regions like FL), I will have my perfect sampler and you will have my undying loyalty for all future apps you develop. Thanks again!
