@mlau Thank You!!!
This app looks amazing, and I might check it out. But I have a specific question in mind -
Is there a feature where sEGments will slice up an audio file and allow you to export individual WAV files for each slice? I would just want to get them over to Audioshare.
VirSyn's reSlice does this, and does it fairly well, but the slices it generates are too long, so I need to go through and trim them all in Audioshare, which kind of defeats the purpose. Ideally, I'd like a slicer that exports only waves of when there is sound, not all the dead air from the original, unchopped file in between sounds. Thanks!
Segments is great, but doesn’t fit that use case.
Auditor has an “Auto Trim” macro that will work on a whole batch of files at once. Export from ReSlice combined with this might work for ya.
I highly recommend Auditor for exactly this use case. It works like a charm and you can do other batch processes all in one fell swoop, too.
Thanks @wim and @lukesleepwalker ! I had never even heard of that app but that might make my life quite a bit easier. Will take a look.
Auditor has slicing built-in as well. I don’t know how well it stacks up against ReSlice, but I like using it a lot. I just discovered it has Warp built in as well. You can change the length of individual slices and pitch is preserved.
Yep, I do all slicing in Auditor now as it has easily surpassed ReSlice for chopping and processing. Highly, highly recommended!
can someone explain the “ choke “ function ?
If slices are set to “choke”. They will mute or cut each other off when played, like mono polyphony
@mlau
@ruggedsmooth many thanks !
I apologize if this has been covered. If I import a sample and slice it up (and save it as a preset), how do I share that preset and sample with someone else?
I’m working on a project in NS2 and using sEGments as a plug-in. The preset and sample are not traveling with the NS2 archive file to the other collaborators, who all also have sEGments. I’ve tried posting the sample and the .egkit preset export in DropBox, but that hasn’t seemed to work for them as far as importing the preset.
Thanks!
@peanut_gallery What worked for me to import was long clicking the .egkit preset then selecting “open in segments.” By the way, I think that .egkit preset is all you need to send, without having to send the sample separately because from what I’ve seen, the audio file is inside that .egkit file (along with another file I assume is the slice info). Anyway, I hope it works out!
@Pandan I had tried that and got a big error screen. I think it couldn't find the sample. My current workaround (though not great) is to use EG Pulse in NS2 instead. I can easily save my preset from sEGments into EG Pulse. When I share the EG Pulse bank, that does include the sample and other EG Pulse users can open that just fine.
@peanut_gallery yes the sample is embedded into the egkit preset. Can you please send it to [email protected] and I'll check it
Cubasis 3 automations support is coming in the next update!
Thank you @ElliottGarage! Email with egkit file sent!
I just uploaded my first patch on Patchstorage.com it is for Tonality and it allows you to play the 16 pads in segments. Tonality has a super easy midi learn feature so you can easily map it to your external midi controller and play the sEGments app from any midi device.

@Poppadocrock many thanks !
You are welcome. It comes in handy with midi controller pads for sure
Just saying... just might be the best sequencing approach for this Gem.. sEGment..
BTW... it’s about time for BHv3
are we there yet??
Two biggest requests I have for this app: (1) ability to set end points for samples; (2) ability to record perfect loops (quantized to nearest bar). For the former, I can set the start point by moving the first slice marker, but the end point is impossible to set without losing a slice (ie, using slice 16 to be a pseudo end point). Being able to record perfect loops would make the slicing into equal sections really helpful (tempo changes, pitch shifting, etc).
TLDR summary ... can we get a global/All sample length and global/All sample start variable exposed please? (Or possibly a “All Slices” variable for each of the exposed slice iykwim)
I have this teensie weensie request but first I just ....
This is such a profesional and well executed app. I know there was a few bugs to start with but this was an ambitious project, the whole auv3 sample/ sampler thing which afaik even brambos has not grappled with yet. There have been so many user requests and it looks like you have kept a good balance of keeping ppl happy and keeping it the app you had in mind. That said this is now one of my favourite apps.
I use this app for so many sampling needs which is usually a drum machine slice with choke and then taking old clips and chopping them. Lots of apps that I used before and love I no longer think about, BM3 and reslice being the most popular. The individual fx for each slice and exposure of the first whatever slices in auv3 is huge for my way of working and being able to send lfos to start and length is just glitch heaven. Thank you!
So today I sampled some sounds from my kitchen after hearing a lovely aluminium pot bang against the metal sink and after chopping a bit in AudioShare I got it into segments. I adjusted the levels of some slices, added reverbs lightly to most and filtered some really sharp sounds a bit. Oh, I sliced it up with the automatic function before. Then I set it all to poly mode and had each slice loop and then starting playing on the keyboard each slice while adjusting start points and sample length. Just so much sonic mayhem. My next step was to automate, riffer gave me the random sample trigs and kerns miniLFOs was ready to automate the start and length of the samples but I realised I would have to assign for each of the 12 samples and there is no global sample start or global stamp le length. So that’s my request
Very excited about what app you do next. I’m going to write a great review now.
thanks @Richtowns , your workflow is really interesting and the video you sent me is incredible!! Can I repost it on my socials?
About your request, eventually I can simply do that with 'ALL' button enable each parameter received will forward its value to all the pads, so you can manually set 'ALL' on and simply send start and length to the first pad. What do you think about it?
@Richtowns would love to see this video, sounds like a great workflow indeed!
This would be fantastic for attack and release as well!
Sure would be nice to set the start and end point before slicing! It's a significant time suck to have to take it out to another app.
@ElliottGarage Yes, that works for me. Just want a quick way to do it and that works. Use my video of course. Ill pop it here for everyone else.
