Maybe... please define unused samples, i.e. how would the app know the difference between used and unused?
@moodscaper
So I checked my storage and MU with all IAPs only reports using 779.5 MB.
Is something weird here?
Everyone is going on about it being a storage pig, but it seems pretty good to me.
Is my iPad lying to me? Maybe an iOS 14 related thing? (I am still on 13.7).
Seriously, it is smaller than the OG Moodscaper (with the 3 additional setups) which comes in at 1.07 GB.
Basically, yes, there is
I commented on it earlier in this thread. The way iOS reports usage doesn't include data associated with app extensions (i.e. Audio Units) as best I can tell. It probably gets lumped in with "other" or something like that. It's very strange.
Ah, I see.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Sorry, I missed the earlier explanation.
👍🏻
I mean, could the user select sounds to delete from within the app, and save only the ones he wants to keep? Or if that’s too tricky, maybe give the user the option to download individual sounds from a purchased pack rather than all of them.
Just under 800mb is the app install. See below for IAP estimate.
Terminology seems to be important here so just for clarity I'm talking about individual presets/patches/instrument or whatever MU want to call them including the associated sample data. I assume sample data is not used across multiple presets. That would be an additional problem. Although I assume that sort of space optimisation is either not possible or not being used.
In the first case, if a user can say this is a sound that categorically I never want to use, then that could work. It would be a fair amount of work to do though on the app side though. But let's say you delete instrument X. You start a new project, and instrument X is listed, but you can't remember what it sounds like and the app is going to have to throw up a message say "sorry you deleted that sound". Would that not be an issue for some users? I think that would be quite annoying for some users.
Individual downloads aren't possible I'm afraid. One IAP = one download as Apple hosts the IAP content. I do this to keep costs down so I don't have to maintain my own servers.
Correct - this is true in 99% of the instruments. Notable exceptions are mono and poly versions of the same instrument in Ampsynth as an example. That's why "instruments" is more accurate a term than "patches".
What kind of space optimisation would you suggest? There are tradeoffs between performance and reliability. I've looked at several approaches, and right now, I've taken the approach that strikes a good balance between performance and reliability.
Not to say that might not get revisited further down the line, but right now, this is how it is for now.
No idea. I know there is software that does this, Toontrack Superior Drummer I think for example. As I said, I assume that sort of space optimisation is either not possible or not being used. No hidden meaning.
Not if it deleted it. It would seem odd to facilitate deleting an instrument but leave the instrument name in the list to confuse the user.
So you don't want to see stuff you've deleted. What if you want to undelete? No need to answer - just think about it. Keeping in mind that you cannot download individual instruments as noted earlier.
I will say this one more time - it is how it is. I don't really have the bandwidth to debate how it is any further. Sorry about that.
There is no debate. Just putting forward my thoughts. "It is how it is" is exactly my feeling regardless of what I want. If you want to go down this path then that is fine. It's a good path. I have some issues with it but not so much that I would expect anyone to care or change anything. My questioning was just to find out where the app is heading and I think we sorted that out. As they say you can't please everyone, nor should you try. Seems like a very good app for a lot of people.
Moodunits is “horses for courses”...
I have both PureSynth and moodunits. PureSynth may be smaller, but I can’t run too many instances of it in Nanostudio2 without experiencing problems. Moodunits may be bigger in size, but that’s offset by how many instances of it I can run - I’ve had it up to 16 in NS2 before it started to crackle...
Both apps are good, but they’re designed for different audiences. Personally, I’d rather be able to run more instances without crackling, and Moodunits allows that because the samples are bigger, but require less processing power to render I think.
Making music on IOS is always a compromise...
I haven’t got them all yet but I’m really liking the new presets I have so far. These are great for when I don’t want to do a bunch of tweaking and I just want to get to making music. I don’t really need to even add much effects most the time either
❤️ m o o d u n i t s !
@moodscaper Just got around to getting these now - beautiful sounds at a bargain price! Keep 'em coming!
Thanks! That's the plan - more instruments on their way
I'm actually in the midst of a major sample editing session right now, and it's not more analog synth sounds...
While I'm here, anyone else reading this who has moodunits, please see the release notes for 1.4.0 - some changes to factory sounds / downloads. All for the greater good, hopefully. There's also a demo of the new / additional factory sounds on the YT channel:
@moodscaper
UP WORK KEEP GOOD!
@moodscaper just bought the two new iap. Great sounds for real, and also little great size 😉
@moodscaper - beautiful sounds in the 2 latest IAPs - thanks 👍
Good to know
@moodscaper The new Piano IAPs are certainly moody.. in a very good way.. great addition to the MU Waverley library.. 👍 Thank you!
What I do with patterning is recording the midi patterns Into Drambo
Good idea - but atillmquite a bit of messing about. I donoccasionally use a non-AU app, but it's increasingly rare.
Not sure where this came from, but... moodunits == AU.
Glad you're digging the new sounds guys! More soon / ish.
Yeah, i know it Is. I'm very much enjoying it, too, thanks. Great Update 👍
sounds so good!
i notice you units say “arp” or “bass” under them! that labeling is very helpful in a big aum session... is there a way to activate that on my end... am i overlooking something?
99 cent IAPs are good (as are the IAPs
...
If you open the AU window in AUM, long press on the title bar and you can set / edit the "Context name". The text length is quite limited, but as you say, can be quite useful. For MU effects, I set a default value that describes the effect.
@JohnnyGoodyear - thanks!
