Love it. Now amplitude is officially put to rest
My jazz bass has gone from fairly uninspiring to just wow . Love those presets and like velvet as well
THU Full is 89,99 € in Europe, that's 106 USD with current exchange rates. I think I'll go for Neural DSP's Archetype Plini, instead. Best cleans I heard yet, seriously making me consider dropping the iOS guitar amp sim game.
Yeah, you make a good point @JoyceRoadStudios. I really think they're still recouping the development costs on the iOS versions, and they prices will eventually go down after that.
Take Nembrini, for instance. Everything there is 50% off — except for their newest amp the Cali Dual.
Finally broke down and bought the Nembrini Fender. Like we all feared, it is high gain
Also, GE Labs has already had a 50% off sale on their preset packs.
I took advantage of that offer and still haven't explored every amp and effect there, so once again I'll just wait for TH-U to come to me...
Agreed. I think that $80 should be the original full price anyway. I also think purchasing the smaller bundles should be subtracted from your price once you decide to go full. Same with ala carte components. Subtract them from the full. I think the strategy is to make the full seem like the best deal and I get it, but clearly iOS works differently in that people like to get their feet wet with $5-$10. They would be smart to make those smaller bundles $10 from time to time, and the single components $3. That would reel in more fish. I get it, $80 on iOS is steep.
Still, I can’t possibly expect TH-U full to cost the same as the Bias full, prices should reflect quality. The Nembrini sales are generous and frequent but I already have them all anyway. I got a laptop recently and will be making a few choice purchases based on their iOS counterparts.
A number of us have found success taming it by going into the rack mode and reducing the input knob. It's definitely not your typical Fender amp.
Wow, long thread. So, once I get my new iPad, first goal is to get good Fenderish clean sounds. I want classic surf, spaghetti western and steel guitar sounds. I'm not interested in anything higher gain than the lightest crunch. In most modelers I've tried, the Fender Twin model has sounded best for pedal steel so I see that as a requirement. Is there one package that would be best for a wide variety of clean sounds and that might also include super-clean jazz tones (Roland Jazz Chorus style)?
Yeah it is totally a ‘90s Fender amp, makes me think of Foo Fighters. It does have a nice vintage thud with some settings, but the overdrive and distortion on the amp is squarely modern. I do like it better with single coils instead of humbuckers.
As much as I like the TH-U Bassman rig, the Tremolux rig has the best vintage sound, and a perfect jangle.
@audiobussy, many here have had a much better experience with clean tones with the CaliReverb or even the Bst100 Nembrinies.
Also they are reportedly working on a Vox AC30 emulation that might be worth waiting for...

Thanks. For 99 cents I would have tried them, but since that’s not the case, I’m gonna hard pass.
I think I’m just going to stick with (if recording guitar into my iOS projects) a combination of my handful of Nembrini apps, IR files ala IConvolver, and various effect apps. Between those apps, and being that my guitar signal comes through my BOSS GT1 multi effects pedal to begin with, I feel like I have all the tone choices I need.
It’s not like back in the day when I was playing in bands, that I had a van full of different amps and various gear to choose from at the drop of a hat right? No, I showed up with ONE amp, ONE guitar, and a couple pedals. All of my tone variance was done with the four pots and the toggle switch on the front of my Les Paul, or by selecting one of the two channels on my amp.
This is just me trying to justify not spending any more money on trying to get someone else’s tone.
Well you do have a point, @Intrepolicious! Gigging was the same for me and many others. Also didn't have a guitar tech and someone to lug our gear around.
I think all of us are spoiled with the amount of options we have at our fingertips today. Imagine going back in time and telling your younger self what was coming.
I don’t blame you, what you are using is definitely great and more than enough. Having too many components and amps to choose from is not really a good thing for creativity. I’m not sitting around thinking “wow I have 200 amps to use, but I should get 10 more”, it’s more like “which of these 200 amps will be my top 5 to use forever”, so when you already own sims you love, why buy more?
I came to iOS fairly recently having not invested in the previous guitar apps. So I was primed to go in on Overloud and Nembrini and make them my primary guitar apps, they are clearly ahead of the others in terms of audio quality. I have GE Labs too and will explore it as well. But yeah, imagine just having two great Nembrini amps and pairing them with your fave IRs and fx, what more could you need? Back in the “band in the van” days, one amp, one guitar, one board with 5 pedals, done.
@JoyceRoadStudios Just got Tremolux for desktop for $19. And the iOS version for a dollar. This is probably my new favorite. Superb clean fender sound
With TH-U, the free amp is a twin. I would pair it with a good IR though and turn off its cab simulation.
FWIW, the Nembrini Cali Reverb in clean mode is Fender-like though a bit sparkly (and can use a little Eq to tone down the sparkle).
From what folks say, the a la carte rigs for TH-U (which aren’t on sale) are where it shines...but I haven’t gone down that road because they are expensive enough, I don’t want to invest the money and be disappointed. The cheap rig bundles, IMO don’t beat the Nembrini amps though they give a lot of variety.
I’ve heard great things about the non-rig Lynchboxes but am wary because I have found the amps in the funk bundle that I got haven’t made their way into regular use.
I've had good luck taming the Fender, but you can't be squeamish about tuning knobs down. Including your guitar output. I've always left the guitar pretty much cranked with iOS amp sims because they all go flat and dead with low pickup output. But the Nembrinis don't have that problem.
This was my first thought. There's no struggle getting a good clean tone out of the Cali, and having the built-in reverb to smooth things out a little is handy too.
There's also Gain Stage Vintage Clean by Blue Mangoo. It's not a fender emulation, but is a really carefully put together cleanish amp.
And I recommend a good cab IR. There are some ok ones in Cali Reverb, but I prefer the ones I have from Ownhammer.
There’s something so beautiful and just right about Gain Stage Vintage Clean, I’m constantly drawn to it. It’s like a perfectly voiced guitar preamp, gives a vibe not unlike Nembrini PSA, but the clean guitar version.
On your recommendation, and others, I bought the IR collection
OT: Positive Grid is almost giving it away now, Bias FX2 is $40 for the whole thing (Elite), and Bias Amp2 is $8 for the full unlock. It’s almost tempting. There have been plenty of stability issues with Bias this year, and it’s still not AUv3. But they’ve been the main draw along with Amplitube for years. Amplitube might offer sales, but their Full is still a ridiculous $150, and it’s IAA only. GE Labs offers the whole thing for $25-$50 depending on the week, IAA only and does exhibit some stability issues. Nembrini and Overloud sound the best, are both extremely stable, have bright update futures and responsive devs, and are both AUv3. TH-U wins the guitar rig universe game while Nembrini wins the a la carte masterpieces. There’s something on the market for everyone, why is there such disparity in pricing though? Shouldn’t quality and performance beat out affordability?
Is “value” more important than “price”?
So true. I have and love all the Nembrini apps and a whole lot of the TH-U amps but Gain Stage Vintage Clean gets more time than any other, usually in conjunction with TTOV, Yukawa, Velvet Machine, and/or the mind bending Gauss.
Also got Velvet Machine yesterday, love it. Great concept! It’s like a leitmotif or Shostakovich style generator.
Nembrini and TH-U complement each other imho. I go to THU for Fender cleans, niche tones, Soldano type rigs, the great fx, and Nembrini for analog drenched single amp masterpieces.
Can you MIDI-assign effect knobs on Velvet Machine????
Would be awesome to control it via BlueBoard using an expression pedal!
You certainly can in AUM! Every knob in Velvet
is midi assignable there. Don’t see any midi in standalone...
Great!
I guess that moves it into the insta-buy realm!
Thanks!
Despite there being no sale on Rigs and having 32 already, I went ahead and got the new MetlX and Vox 30 Heritage HW. The MetlX because it came with the new Sympgonic 90 component for free, which is $15 a la carte. It’s interesting that Overloud releases new components but they’re not included for people who already have the Full Pack. And this new component is triple the price of others. Still it’s smart of them to bundle new components for free with rigs as incentive, and then the presets highlight that component. So the MetlX rig sounds really great, specifically in that ‘80s rock sound that’s rich and warm and processed, rather than shreddy and metallic. The BHS rigs in the store have all proven to be generous and of high quality, along with the Choptones. The BHS Soldano rig is still one of my top 3, along with Tremolux and Bassman. Top 5 is getting crowded, but Brit 1987, MarkV, Fried Betty, are still up there.
The Vox Heritage rig, at first, was a disappointment. I started with the presets and my Les Paul, and the preset bank for this rig just doesn’t cut it. They decided to make presets based on famous songs, it didn’t wow me with tone. Again as a native TH-U rig it came off as more muddy and distant compared to Choptones and BHS rigs. But, and this is a big but, when I actually went to the Rig player and cycled through all the Vox rig profiles (not the presets), I totally got it. The rigs themselves sound absolutely amazing and unique even in the sea of other rig purchases. And this rig offers two sub folders, one with IRs, and one direct amp cabless so you can pair your own IRs with less hassle. So for me this rig was not paired well the preset bank but is totally awesome as Vox amp profile to build from scratch.
I can't wait to hear your comparison of this Vox with the Nembrini model (when it drops)!
I picked-up a number of Vox IRs over the Black Friday/Cyber sale in anticipation of the newest Nembrini...
I spent a couple hours last night with my new cabs and was very impressed with the investment!
Thanks for that Zilla tip! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
New build up, two new rig libraries. No IR loader yet
.I got an email from Overloud saying the IOS Rigs were on sale (ending on Jan. 3rd). I’m not sure if they’re all on sale. Some are pretty pricey but I don’t remember if the price was higher before. You can pick up some for $11.99, which is a pretty good deal. I’ll have to go back and listen to the videos again to find some that are geared more to my tastes (cleanish).
Looks like it's just the thu rigs. Reg price 16.99 I think. None of the choptones or BHS or lrs are on sale. I was very excited thinking choptones were on sale.
