An expensive game changer would be some established app running on both Mac and iPad with a single purchase. Ableton.

But even that wouldn't be a "game changer" for some. So such a thing doesn't exist, it's a subjective term which shouldn't be taken literally. We all have different games :)

I believe in game changer as a concept even if it doesn't apply to me. I doubt Ableton on iOS would change my game, at least initially, but it would for so many others that I think game changer is an apt description, and it would affect my viewpoint considerably if I were getting into iOS now.

Yeah I can understand that perspective, although I think there are so many individual workflows it's hard to see anything being revolutionary for everyone, just improvements from now on.

@AudioGus Yeah. In fact for me Ableton iOS wouldn't be a game changer at all.

I use Ableton Live already via laptop/desktop and I use ipads to sketch into Ableton all the time. So if they ever released anything for iOS it would be great and I'd be interested of course, but it would only mildy improve workflow into Ableton Desktop (maybe) and wouldn't change that much for me in the end, I'd still use my other AUs/hosts and plugins and the full Live on desktop where I have multiple monitors.

For me getting as close to killing the desktop itch completely is the goal... thinking Maschine MK3 may help... for a bit anyway.

I can understand that :) and I'll always love working away from the desktop as much as possible. I'll always need it for finishing projects especially when they combine visuals. or film making etc.

Sigh, wish I had the physical ability for such things. I just spent four days off recovering from an intense work milestone, with nothing left over. Four days of rest to only just rest, ugh. I have a monthly release cycle that requires a ton of mouse / keyboard / Screens / drawing tablet work. If I can squeeze in some glass tapping, pad padding or knob twisting on the side, that is about it now. Extra curricular click click and keyboard clack clack is a big no no now as it cuts into my mortgage servitude capability.

I'm really wanting Ableton to extend the Push2 to be able to use it more untethered from Live, or maybe someone will hack it :)

I was looking into that for sure as a meatspace friend uses Push2 but yah it sounds like NI has the edge on being able to just use a long USB cable and ignore the screen. Plus it looks like NI just added some improved audio support for the Maschine software which helps it in that department, carry the 2, add the 4 etc...

Anywho, as for Drumcomputer on iOS I fear it would just inflame my workarounditus as well with lots of unfulfilled and frustrated delusions of solo/mute exports etc that would be clunky as I am just not happy on the AUM pedal board, the only place that would support multi out AU for me. I just can’t see getting mixes with Drumcomputer that I like without using multiple outputs or a bunch of clunky on iOS audio tracks.

I have seen a few random advertisements for Logic for $79.00. I’m thinking either Logic or like said above, Massive. Just guessing but that’s my hypothesis.

    Watch out for that: https://www.synthanatomy.com/2020/10/apple-logic-pro-x-why-this-deal-is-not-a-deal-scam-alert.html

Yeah, saw on FB. It is a scam. Thanks.

  • the randomizer is awesome as you can decide if it’ll randomly make a kick, a snare, a hat etc and so your beat won’t be total trash with just snares all random playing

  • DC's sequencer: looks like modern Elektron territory. 16-steps, but has pattern chain at the bottom like the other SB sequencers.

Per track: step length, tempo (time dividers/multipliers), direction (Elektron lacks this), track nudge, randomization.
Per track, Per Event: velocity, probability (chance), rolls, offset, decay, pitch, modulation.

Don't see advanced trig conditions, but overall it looks really easy to use. Hopefully a stylus isn't required.

  • I don’t think I’ve actually got any game to change ;) but this does look like a lot of fun.

I’ll more likely wait for a sale though if it’s pricey... until the launch sale is an offer I can’t refuse.

Something tells me that’s likely not gonna be the case though. And they likely wouldn’t have a killer holiday sale just weeks after launch 🚀

Fingers crossed 🤞 for killer launch sale :)

  • Just a wild guess, but after looking at the manual for the iPad version it seems to lack AUv3 multi-out...

  • Here you got. A real game changer. Don't forget to turn off any ipad or laptop.

    :D

I know how you feel, have been there too. I had to take a week off once after an intense job which gave me little sleep each night, having to strain my eyes all day/night over the monitors for several weeks. I'm trying to divide my work time as much as possible with different complimentary workflows which take me away from screens, but it's not easy :)

I was looking into that for sure as a meatspace friend uses Push2 but yah it sounds like NI has the edge on being able to just use a long USB cable and ignore the screen. That does sound good. btw I just picked up Pushhacker, which is a Push script and is promising, you can hardwire map any of the controls to anything. You still need to go though Live for connection, but for example you could just use it as an interface on a tiny mobile PC. then could use it as a DIY custom controller for any ios app which has midi parameters. Could work well for Drambo, AUM and Drumcomputer. :)

Yeah the multi-out is really good, 20 channels in stereo pairs...

  • edited October 2020

@Samu the AUM screenshot in page 50 seems to imply that it does have AUv3 multi-out

Edit: and I think @Carnbot confirmed it as well?

Sweet, I hope BM3, NS2 or Cubasis can support it someday.

I also hope the file management for samples is better than Egoist with a nice non-icloud dependant ‘files’ folder you can copy into.

So, game changer, may not be what you thought you wanted and certainly didn't need. It's a roll of the dice, a start over, it's not another app, necessarily.

    Wise words have been spoken

Thats cheating! Human talent has no place in modern music production.

Sugar Bytes tend to have no launch sale, and 1 year passing before a new product enters any of the holiday sales.

Yeah unfortunately I can only confirm the icloud folder has folder management, I don't think it's possible yet in non-icloud folder, they remain hidden, unless they've changed that.

    Ugh! The worst!

  • I guess they have to use iCloud since an AUv3 can not directly access files in the 'On My iPad' folders.
So when one imports stuff it gets tucked way into a private storage container that both the stand-alone and AUv3 can access.

For me a drag'n'drop from the Files.app pop-over is enough since I very seldom need to import entire folder structures...
...and when I do I do NOT import them into a plug-in but to the host. Too bad it's not possible to do drag'n'drop from the host to the AUv3, it has to go via the Files.app pop-over...

  • @AudioGus said:
Yah the only ‘game changer’ for me would be a place on iOS that I can put stems and audio tracks on a timeline and do audio editing / mixing / arranging somewhat close to as well as I can on PC with Samplitude. Nothing to do with Mac or Ableton in that game.

    This!

  • So the "Something game changing (for some) & wallet killing coming next week?" thread launched last week — which would make "next week" now THIS WEEK.

Since you apparently know when it's going to drop, @iOSTRAKON, please reveal the day so we can ignore the thread until then.

I feel like a small child in December asking when Christmas is coming and simply being told "soon enough."

Are you saying with Drumcomputer you will be able to drag and drop from any location in Files (via the pop-over) to drumcomputer?

  • And since "next week" hasn't been update in the thread title to THIS week, conceivably it could never drop, since next week will alway be in the future...

    Zeno's Paradox but with multi-outs!

  • @AudioGus said:

That is how it works with all apps that properly implement Files.app support.
Even if the app only has 'iCloud Import' one can still select any location from which to import and it doesn't have to be iCloud.

My iPad Air 2 is likely too weak to fully exploit Drum Computer so I'll pass this time around...

Even though Drum Computer is 'interesting' I see no real personal use for it, just another 'toy in the box'.

  • @jolico... please explain difference between ios14 and iPadOS. Thanks!

I see. So it might not then, like Egoist.

Looks like the iOS link been pulled by SugarBytes on their website !

    Now that’s a game changer 😀

It was linking to Aparillo anyway

Is this the way to Aparillo?
Ev'ry night I've been huggin' my pillow
    Dreamin' dreams of Aparillo
And sweet Marie who waits for me
Show me the way to Aparillo
I've been weepin' like a willow
    Cryin' over Aparillo
And sweet Marie who waits for me
