Ok, that makes sense. I'm not sure I understand how the triggers work but I guessing messing about at slow temp should help. Are the Triggers independent. So if T1 is Triggering 1/4 and T2 is triggering 1/8 it might sound like a sequencer playing 1/8th notes with an accent on the 1/4 notes?

Almost: when multiple triggers fire simultaneously it will jump a corresponding number of steps (so if two triggers fire at the same time, it will jump 2 steps; thus skipping a step).

This allows for some pretty complex polyrhythms with just a minimal number of settings.

is it a silly request that the Erase button says DeGauss instead 🤒🧲

Looks like I’m off to purchase my I-didn’t-win copy. 😄

@Gavinski, thanks again for all the hard work you put into making and sharing these tutorials. They’re super inspiring, not just for the nuts-and-bolts insights into the apps but for the music you’re making with them. 🙏

Thank you so much! I was really happy with what Gauss led me to do, I must at some point finally try to get round to doing an album, got so much inspiration from this app.

That makes me want this more now.

  • It’s awesome ... feed it some keys, overdub some vox, free style the knobs a bit add extra stutter delay and reverb in post effects... hours of fun with minimal input!!
Thanks @brambos @Hainbach also to @Gavinski for the informative vid too!
It’s a ‘belter’ as they say here in sunny Belfast!
    :)

    Ah, a Fellow Nor'n Irishman/woman, nice one 😋

Exactly. Amd then there is also the mutate button to mix things up a bit too

I want to ask more but I'm a bit concerned this has already been cover. But here goes. What exactly would you say the Mutate controller is doing?

  • Thank you. I looked but didn't find it. Mental blackout.

  • Mind you - it seems mutate is broken in the release version. It’s not doing anything - at least knot on my ipad

    @Ailerom

  • All it does is change the order of the steps. Not working though

    @Ailerom

yes, when you factor in the 2 steps leap when triggers collide and keep track of the pattern the mutate does seem to be doing bugger all...

  • Mutate seemed to be working when I was using Gauss this weekend with a single trigger running; I had it on a relatively low setting, but I'm fairly certain that it did actually randomize the sequence order occasionally.

  • I will look into the mutate feature. It was certainly working when I tested it, but perhaps something else broke it in the meantime.

definitely not working for me,, ipad pro 10.5, ios 13.5.1
standalone or au with host running ( apematrix )
but the complexity you can get with the triggers makes it not so huge a problem for me :)

  • It was working in earlier betas, don't worry, I'm sure it's fixable.

  • I just checked. Mutate is working as expected. Ignore the light, but listen to the sound... the light always follows the step it should be playing, but it may actually have triggered a different step.

  • Tricksy! Thanks, @brambos.

This looks REAL good. This seems like it can do the 'vinyl flick' effect that I've been dreaming about that the RC505 loopstation has. Or am I mistaken?

Unrelated thought: does anyone else get exhausted with this endless wave of amazing must buy apps that constantly come out? It almost feels like a mobile gacha game, where if you don't log in every day or miss a week as new characters come out, you will get so far behind you might as well quit. That being said -- it's still about 1% the cost of playing a gacha game, lol. It's just a lot of work learning about all of them and not missing new releases so you can make the best choices.

I remember when the OP1 was still being regularly updated. The excitement of what new wacky UI they figure out for a FX or synth felt kind of like an early proof of concept for music making on iPad in hindsight. Only instead of waiting a year for the next plugin, it's like a constant stream of new stuff. It's such a rush. An exhausting rush. I really can't get enough. Whenever I get a new app I just tell myself I'll buy one less bottle of wine for this month so I guess overall, it's a healthy thing.

It's really interesting how inspiring a great looper can be for composition. I made music for 7 years and never made a single album. 6 months into owning an RC 505 loopstation I had made 3.

Read the threads but it’s not clear to me why Record (and Erase) parameters are not exposed to MIDI.

  • I believe the dev said control will be added in a coming update, in addition to transport control.

Dev says he’s thinking about. Why? It’s such an elemental function for a looper. I mean...GeoShred requires full screen in AUM. No room at all for Gauss.

  • I don't think he's thinking about it, pretty sure it is coming, no?

Intentional design choice to emulate the behavior and workflow approach of real vintage tape recorders. The current sync options were already something of a concession, from what I hear. I think a lot of folks are expecting it to be something it wasn’t quite designed to be.

True that. Just revisited the other thread...

  • Indeed, I can't emphasize this enough: it's not a looper. It loops, but it's not meant to compete with conventional loopers. It's meant to reproduce the workflow of creating and recording magnetic tape loops.

If you're looking for a conventional looper, this app is unlikely to ever satisfy your needs.

    Don’t change anything 😎

Oh, I’m already working hard to make the app better. But for sure we’ll stick with the original concept and character of the app :)
