Yeah - knocked it out of the park with this one Bram, a very enjoyable and creative tool
yeah, probably older than any of that rusty equipment Hainbach has been stockpiling.
time for me nap 😴
With the record button parameter becoming exposed, what is people's view about the easiest app to send a cc message to turn record on at the start of a bar, then turn it off again, say 4 bars later, and not turn it on again (ie not keep looping)? Cheers folks
Drambo f.e has a ‘once’ step condition which you can use to trigger recording only on the first pass, or there is a scene condition which is more customisable - it will trigger recording on demand, you can record, overdub synced to pattern.
For ENSO, I use Xequence AU Pads. Set a slider to Return and it will send out a single CC to trigger Record. It then snaps back and I can use it again to stop Rec and then, depending on the setup, continue to Play or Overdub.
Works great for me, except that—STILL!—Enso crashes fairly consistently when using 4 instances in AUM. Unusable in a performance setting and a giant stain on AudioDamages reputation.
If you wanted to do something like that LK could be a good app do it.
That’s my plan too
Can send the same trig to multiple instances of Gauss also to sync up lots of recordings.
Agreed! Yes, using one instance seems loess problematic, multiple ones often crash
Are you certain it’s Audiodamages fault? I’ve been getting multiple instances of Gauss crashing too, could be a number of reasons.
Thnx for the suggestions folks, I've been trying to use stepbud, Arpbud, midiSTEPs etc to send notes to do it, but am not getting the results I expect. Not sure why. Lk I still don't know how to use properly yet. Just trying to look for the really simplest solution to this.
Are you testing the beta?
Is Gauss midi for record only toggle? I think I'd prefer trigger because you can set the record length easily in the app.
Yeah, it’s the app. No other AU I use on a regular basis crashes so consistently and predictably as ENSO. I believe it’s a well-known issue.
That's likely still the classic issue with the AUv3 memory ceiling. Once you cross it the plugin will crash without warning. I have already reported that to Apple multiple times, but until they solve it all plugins will suffer from it (and memory-heavy plugins will run into it a lot faster).
But all devices I've tested with were able to run at least 4-5 instances without crashing.
Main thing I would like is to find a way to get this to trigger like you can do with Enso 😂 - ie that Gauss will not be triggered til the start of the next bar, will then record for a set length, say 16 bars for example, then either turn off or switch to overdub. If anyone can see a way to do exactly that easily with one of these midi sequencers etc, a short vid would be greatly appreciated. Must be easy to set up though!
So, you need a looper?
I guess Mozaic doesn’t qualify as "easy to set up." 😄 That’s probably where I’m heading, in an attempt to build functionality into Gauss (and Enso, soon) that gives me some additional options for loop performance.
I love this app, but there is a tiny but, and that is that I always feel like I'd like to be able to visualize the loop layers. As is, I have no idea where the first loop and subsequent overdub loops are relative to each other in the loop display.
Yeah I'm certain that iOS still has a lot of issues to be addressed
Haha. Look, Bram and Hainbach are certainly within their rights to make this exactly the way their vision demands. And we're within our rights to try to bend their creation to our will 👻
Yes! all the best tools are hackable, I mean the hardware tape loop is already a hack
Well said 😜
They don’t seem to care about such stains. They’ve accumulated so many.
[nods head]
Would there be a way to show the overdubbed loop regions in the loop speed viewing area? I think it would be most helpful.
@brambos any chance of this being installable on Mac? I’m probably just being lazy but I’m making loops in Ableton and this would be perfect for adding a bit more of an organic way to get there…
Do you use an iPad with Gauss?
Yeah but I’m making tons of loops for a preset pack and don’t really want to deal with all that file wrangling on the iPad…
Hmm I just found out if you have an iPad connected via Keyboard and Mouse with your Mac you can open Gauss up and click the WAV button to import and drag and drop directly into the file browser that pops up and select the file from there? Makes it semi easier.
Maybe, I’m just hard at the wheel generating stuff in Ableton and wondering if there’s a chance this would ever reach that platform rather than doing workarounds 🙏
