Sweet!
So the beta versions are not working? I have the beta but am in the middle of a project and don’t have time to test it out at the moment. I hope it all gets working again eventually, it would be cool to have the iPad as an 8 channel satellite effects box for Mac. I had it working before I went to Catalina but I don’t remember what iOS version I was on at the time.
Nothing that I can remember, but it’s been a while since I last used it.
Bought it. At the moment, after some time .... it's working ! And no latency at all. I just need to figure out how can i connect the iPad to the PC using the Camera Connection Kit (I want to use my MIDI devices in the iPad, not in the PC).
I plugged the camera conection and i use a USB Hub to my Devices and the Lightning to the PC USB. But doesn't recognize the iPad in that way.
Pluggin directly through PC is working great
It's normal since the lighting cable provides only power that (wrong) way
It’s not that it’s not working, only like you I have limited opportunity to test it as the desktop server software and plugins overwrite the versions that work with Studiomux 4. So, I’m sticking with the old software and iOS 13 where I want to continue to use it productively (with High Sierra for me).
Having said that, I’ve seen the beta evolving to the edge of usable, I’ll be giving the latest version a spin shortly with Catalina and iOS 14.4.
Cool. I’ll definitely test it again after this project is done.
Oh, so what would be the option to use the MIDI Devices with Camera Kit + Studiomux ?
Yes, it won’t work via a USB hub in that way. Your options are to use Bluetooth midi to the IPad or connect controllers to your PC and route them through Studiomux to the IPad. Both these options work fairly painlessly for me.
I don't think it's possible .
So .... i can connect my controllers in my PC and control via MIDI ex: AUM faders/Drambo,etc... ? There's a tutorial or something to do it?
You certainly can ,if can't figure it out I'll try posting some images for the routing
Also a tip , try using one midi port in StudioMux and separate the midi devices by midi channels . It helps keeping an easy route/configuration
I guess i'm a bit newbie about MIDI ports, devices, channels, etc....
I have one AUM setup with everything linked by Drambo (i choose one Drambo channel and i can play one instrument from AUM). I use a Korg Nanocontrol for that, and i have a Studiologic SL73, both connected to Drambo so everytime i choose an instrument, i play it with the SL73.
Now i'm using Ableton Live 10 in my PC, do i need to do the mapping there?
I’m a bit rusty on it, give me 24 hours as I’m just getting my iPad and desktop together again after a few months apart.
What I remember is that you see your desktop controllers as available in AUM once Studiomux is running, you don’t need to do anything in Live (though you can if you choose). Like I say though, I can’t recall exactly, other than it was pretty straightforward and very useful.
I’ll plug in and check my own memory, hopefully I’ve left a few posts around here too...
EDIT: Up and running, all mercifully straightforward. All controllers connected to my mac appear as available midi inputs in AUM's midi routing, no configuration necessary in Live, on computer or in Studiomux. I guess it might be different on PC, but in principle no complicated setup necessary - it's just like the controller is connected direct to the iPad.
You can do routing out of Live and in Studiomux, but I've not used it that way, I just go straight to AUM which sounds like the way it would work best for you.
Now I saw that you are talking about the beta (found it strange loading in AUM, it used to work only inside audiobus3)
Note that I use windows10
I don't know how beta behaves , but previously AU midi connections where lost during sessions so I ended up using studiomux midi port instead , so if connections are lost when loading a project in live , try using as midi destination studiomux port and route the port in AUM midi matrix
@raimundoarriagada for routing midi in live simply select your midi controllers in preferences and as destination ports you should see in Live the apps currently loaded on your ipad
Thanks a lot @Korakios and @steve99 . I plugged my devices in my PC and i could use the SL73 as AUM Port 1. Nanokontrol i don't think that would be possible to control AUM being already plugged in the PC. I will figure it out soon .....
BTW, Studiomux working super nice in my iOS13 and Windows 10. Almost no latency and i'm using just ASIO drivers. Just 2 things .....
1.- My iPad isn't charging while is plugged to the PC
2.- Need to figure out to use my Nanokontrol as AUM controller and not Live controller
Some PCs, especially notebooks don't output enough power to charge an iPad. There's a utility from ASUS that I used for years with my windows PCs. It boosts the USB power output so that the iPad charges. I don't know if it would work for you or not, and I've only tried it on Windows 7, but I can send you a link to it in my Dropbox if you want to try.
Thanks a lot ! I will search it in Google. If i didn't find it .... i will send u a DM if isn't a problem
keep in mind that on some motherboards , when enabling fast charging , the data communication is disabled (meaning only charging)
Had a play with the latest beta today, got a SWAM in AUM going through Studiomux into Live (on a Mac). Then back to my iPad as a Studiomux effect on a Live return channel.
All my desktop midi control controllers are showing up in AUM (didn’t try routing in SMUX).
What I’ve not figured out if it’s possible to get audio out of Studiomux to AUM or Audiobus? This is how I use Studiomux 4, sampling audio coming from my desktop in Segments, Reslice and others hosted in AUM. Anyone had any joy with this? I’ve asked Zerodebug if it is possible, or will be possible, but no response.
Humm. I've had success with FL Studio, but Live 10 Lite crashes every time when I try to enable Studiomux audio input. I'll have to give it another try.
Have you tried latest version of the server ? It was supposed to crush some bugs...
Yes, downloaded yesterday.
I guess you can create an audio track in AUM as Studiomux output
That’s what i’d like to do, but I can’t get it to work, the AUM icon stays greyed out in the Studiomux output slot. I can load Studiomux as an input to AUM, but no audio comes through. Maybe this is IAA deprecation, but it works the other way with audio from AUM to SMUX.
Probably not IAA deprecation. No IAA features have been removed from iOS 14. IAA deprecation has so far had no impact and there is no indication that will change any time soon on the OS side.
Btw, I just tried the latest StudioMux beta (Mac High Sierra, and iPad running iOS 13.7) and was able to send multiple channels of audio from the iPad to the Mac with no glitching and minimal latency. I sent 4 channels of audio from AUM to Ableton Live
It took me a little while to understand how to set it up, but once I did, it worked really well.

@espiegel123 Can you get the audio back out of Studiomux (from desktop) and into AUM yet? That was the last major remaining hurdle with the beta for me. I went back to the App Store version as that still works fine for bi-directional AUM audio.
Yes, i did a test of sending guitar from my Mac back to AUM for processing and then back to the Mac
Excellent news, thank you, will give it a go.
