  • It's been super stable for me on Windows too. Although it's worth stating that use Studiomux in a way that doesn't look to sync clock between iOS and Windows. I use it strictly to stream audio between iOS and Windows, and it handles this really well and with minimal latency.

At what DAW have you tested Studiomux?

  • Seems to be working nicely on my Mac mini and iPhone 8 Plus, only had 2 channels of audio going but no crackles and low latency 😊

I did read about your problems and it sounded to me like a problem with the DAW plugin. Definitely feedback as much as you can to the dev as it's a problem that should be resolvable.

It might help if you posted a screenshot of your iOS Studiomux and the VST in Bitwig. Maybe there's a configuration error. Studiomux isn't exactly intuitive to set up sometimes.

  • On the App Store page
They have a link to a help page, which just takes you to a Chinese page nothing to do with with this app
It states you need another small bit of software with a link, this also leads to another dodgy looking page
Not a very good way for people to jump on board,
Want this setup to work, but feel I am already wasting time, this is beginning to remind me of the old times
Why haven’t they set up a help page even
Trying the help from the installed server doesn’t work either

Not sure why you're getting a Chinese page but the link on the UK app store page takes me to the devs home page: https://zerodebug.com/#/

Admittedly there's not a huge amount of information, but the forum can be helpful - https://community.zerodebug.com and there is a manual (for a previous version) - https://zerodebug.com/#/studiomux/manual

  • Ok
Will try your links in a bit
    Thanks

Will this allow me to use my fx apps on my pc? IE fabfilter, toneboosters, sugar bytes, and eventide? Or is this really just to stream audio to the pc?

Yes - if you load the studiomuxeffect VST / AU plugin - this sends the signal from the pc to the ipad where you can load an effect in the slot and send the processed signal back to the DAW...

The server instance that gets generated in the plugin is what loads in the 'instrument' IN slot on the ipad, and also the output OUT slot - in the plugin, the 'send to' and 'receive from' device should be the connected ipad.

Thanks for that explanation. It helped me to get the round-trip working. However, as soon as I place all but a few AUfx in the anything in the FX slot in Studiomux the audio stops flowing back to the iPad. And Drambo AUfx crashed it.

No surprise there ... plugin hosting has always been Zerodebug's nemesis. (See: history of ModStep)

So, is there a routing by which you can receive from Studiomux, route through AUM, and then back out to Studiomux? I managed to get garbled sound by loading Studiomux Out 1 as an input in AUM, then loading Studiomux Out 2 as an output, but that's all. Hopefully I'm just missing something. I really don't want to rely on Studiomux to host plugins.

Tried Audiobus ... Studiomux won't even load. 🙄

There is a new beta that came out in the last day or two that fixes compatibility with a ton of AUv3 effects that didn't work in the initial app store release.

If you have Timeless 3, see if it works inserted as an effect. If it doesn't, you have the version that doesn't have the fix.

Another thing that has come up is that for some people, they need to delete the old version, reboot and reinstall for things to work correctly. There is a mysterious issue that results in a previous install leaving stuff behind that causes problems.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

I'd still like to know if there's a way to have incoming from computer > AUM > Out to computer. I'll try again once the AU hosting is sorted either on the new beta or on the next production release.

I have no problem using the iPad as insert effects mac to AUM or StudioMux host and back to Mac.

If you want to use AUM for this, you also need to use the StudioMux app. I think I posted the instructions up-thread.

Much better with the Beta. Drambo still kills it, but other AUs loaded fine. I posted Testflight feedback about Drambo as an AU fx in Studiomux.

Try routing through AUM. I've had good luck doing that with AUs that didn't play well in StudioMux (before the recent fix). The amount of added latency and CPU overhead want tol bad.

Distorts and has pretty bad latency here. nvm. I don't need to do this. It was just out of curiosity.

This how Studiomux VST looks like in Bitwig in my case. I picked channel and device. I also see that server indicates that my Iphone is connected (1 devices found).

This is how it looks like on my phone:

  • I'm not familiar with Bitwig, but from what I can see that looks like a valid setup.
Have you tried with the effect version on a track? Just throwing out guesses here.
Do you have another DAW you can try? There are a number of iOS apps that offer free Ableton Live Lite licenses. Live is a good one to test things in.

Arr, I decided to use only 1 DAW for comp production - BW. Uninstalled everything else. So for me using BW is crutial. Still I think that problem lays down not in DAW, because VST loaded properly.

The easiest way to know if it's the DAW or not is to try another one. If you don't want to do that then you probably want to take this over to the Zerodebug forum to see if they can help you there.

  • @wim I think you're going to hit a limit latency wise with the Air 2. I know on paper USB has plenty of bandwidth, it just never works out that way in the real world.

Even now, I'll only use Studiomux for one way streaming (iOS to desktop), roundtripping is something I avoid.

Yeah, I agree. Strange, that im the only one who tries to use Studiomux in Bitwig. I hoped that I will find someone here with exp already.

  • My ableton 10 doesn’t have extra folder locations for v3 vst’s. Which I have seen on some screen shots for ableton.
I guess this is why it isn’t showing the studiomux vst’s
Am I out of luck ?
Are there anyways to get ableton to work with studiomux, I don’t want to upgrade my ableton
