If you think it’s worth the price at the time of purchase then I see no reason to complain later.
I didn’t return f.e AK909 because £2.99 is cheap price for the right of complaining :D

  • i wonder if there are any channels still offering codes for this! christmas with all these kids means no more money for dad! off to scour youtube! i really think this could be an app of the year candidate

  • I have been playing with this and I must say it's better than I expected. Kind of don't want to live without the White 2A and 670 emulations, they really hold their level well and sound clean. I hit them pretty hard with some resonant sweeps of the synth and they just held their own (nice)....and the DSP usage is well within tolerances. 3 loaded instances in AUM with 5 channels of Gauss, Ruismaker Noir and the MDES on the stereo bus and I'm still only at around 60% at 256 on an iPad Pro 9.7...not bad at all...
I have had one crash, not sure why yet....

...and two glitches found on the controls @ikmultimedia - the rotary encoder thingy for the mid/high freq selector on the Vintage EQ is a little unresponsive (takes a lot of tapping and dragging at times to get it to play) and that weird selector window in the preamp doesn't like doing much at all. Just random moments where it changes after much tapping and swearing. This in the AUv3 version. It's fine in the standalone.

All in all a fun first night with this. I can see how it will make a nice addition to the tool chest - as a supplement, not a complete take over. Which is good 'cos the other toys were giving nervous glances at me when I was looking through the list. Now they can relax knowing there is a place for all of them to be a part of this creative universe.

    Winners on the night were:
White 2A, Model 670, SAT X, The delay bank, EQ PG, The filter bank and I'm thinking most of the modulation bank as well. Still working through the reverbs - I don't think anything there has completely blown me away yet. Still not a bad ROI so far.

So I caved in got this thing.

    😂
    I'm still trying to resist...
I went to IK Multimedia's website to see every modules and it's (more than) clear that I've already got (more than) enough same FX that cost me a lot (Nembrini, Eventide, FabFilter, Tone Boosters, FAC, Sugar Bytes, Audio Damage, IFX Rack... etc. 🙈🙈🙈)... but still it is so tempting to discover another "toy" ! 🤪😩😁

I’m with you, man! Some of those compressors look cool, but I don’t need 90 percent of the rest. It reminds me of the effects in Cubasis: It has everything! But I never use the built in tape echo; Early Reflections reverb looks inviting but I have Alteza and EOS and DDMF Envelope.

    You get what I’m saying.

For those who buy, have a ball!

  • Anyone registered this and got the free presets? Not usual practice for ios apps and the IK registration process needs their desktop only product manager. Just checking so I don't download something I don't need...! Cheers...👍

  • To recap, when the app was released, the full price was set at $60, with an introductory 33% discount, so $40. As others were deciding whether to buy or not, many reported positively and the app caused a frenzy. A few days later it said the intro price of $40 was now a 50% discount, and ultimately this tactic caused me and some others to buy it. The principle of this is shady, but I still only paid $40. In the iOS ecosystem I don’t see how this app is worth $80. It’s just isn’t. But if the app is stable, devs are active, and bugs get fixed, $40 is a great market rate value. $40 is also good for this app as is. We don’t actually know how this app will fare a year from now. So just don’t buy it at $80. But I wouldn’t boycott a company because they decided to raise their price. Look at any app that raises prices due to popularity, vs badly reviewed or outdated apps that drop prices out of desperation. Look at the Apogee Symphony Desktop, all of a sudden it’s $1500. The whole sale thing is just psychological, you are still spending money! You’re not actually saving anything if you’re buying something you don’t need. So if you don’t need it then $40 is $39 too much. To me this product has a $40 full price value, case closed. Now, if you could buy it on desktop for $299 and get the iOS version free, that would be cool.

Yeah, just log in to your IK account on the web and download them...

  • A bit suspect for sure. I think it probably triggered IK to change the price when someone did the 57c analysis. $80 puts all these 70 at just over $1.

You're right, I could have also mentioned the iAPs I bought in Cubasis or Auria 😂🙈... definitely, I've made up my mind and will pass this one.

In fact, there is ONE module I would like to have : Phonograph... is there anything similar in the iOS sphere ?

  • Glad to see the sale still going on, managed to snag it finally. Absolutely fantastic app, I can’t believe the efficiency of it. Even my air 1 can run it just fine

I just can't see the decision to do so based on anything but greed.

God forbid that any developer should try to figure out how to make money from their labor. Developers, including midsize developers like iK, are not hugely profitable. Nothing sneaky about this and how does it impact you since the intro price is still available that they have decided that the final price should be higher than was listed earlier?

People throw “greed” around way too easily imo.

  • I get how the pricing fluctuation is pissing some people off; I get it I’ve been annoyed at getting in late on a sale or buying something full price only to have it go on sale the next day, etc. I’ve said it before though because it’s true: before getting into iOS Music Production in 2015 I would easily go into Guitar Center for like strings or something, or just to browse, and I’d see a new pedal or something I dug and end up walking out $120 lighter.

In my mind the guitar pedal was “cheap” at only $100 and even though I might only use it occasionally I never regret those purchases (that I admit I still make occasionally; but it’s usually a mic on Amazon...) But with iOS the prospect of paying $5 or $10 for an app can turn into a huge dilemma! I know apps & an OCD Overdrive pedal aren’t the same but the comparison still holds for me.

It’s all relative of course but because the quality of iOS stuff has gotten so good it kinda blurs the lines.

This app is seriously tremendous. I usually put lunchbox or rack effects into a kind of lower category of “sounds so-so but could be good for character”. No offense to the Nembrini, Yonnac or Gospel Musicians stuff, there are definite diamonds within their offerings. But iK Multimedia has really upped their game for iOS; the latest Fender pack for Amplitube and Syntronik are stellar. I was really late to Syntronik having downloaded the free version on release and misinterpreted what tech was under the hood. I think it’d be easy to do with MixBox for some people as well.

The 1176 & Neve EQ modules are badass. I did some drum bus A-B with Magic Death Eye & the DDMF Portico clone EQ and it’s a toss up, both sounded really good. I like being able to chain modules together but many of these are so cold blooded on their own. There’s this Phaser Filter that has so much control over the sweep it made it like a different effect all together.

Is it cheap, or “less expensive” than other multi-effect apps? No, but it is a very cool, and very capable addition to the iOS music scene.

  • Has anyone tried this with studiomux? I’m wondering if it would be a nice addition to mixing on the Mac in that fashion? Sometimes I can’t have my uad interface with me, and this could be cool to use that way when I have to get a mix done anyway.

I didn’t return f.e AK909 because £2.99 is cheap price for the right of complaining :D

It's not a question of "it's worth the price", the value of a thing is arbitrary. When Moog offered its Model D for free last March, can we differentiate the value of a Model D emulation from that B-3 emulation?

It's disappointing to see the price going down by $20 when a company tells you "jump on it, the price will go up". I just like things to be clear. If $20 is nothing you, good, I can buy food for several days with $20.

For 20$ I can also buy the iFX Rack suite from Gospel Musicians, which certainly has nothing to be ashamed of in front of MixBox and is maybe even an excellent complement! And it would allow me to support this independent but awesome dev!

I mean what is it worth for each user. I would have paid the same for only some of the comps/eqs still thinking it’s a bargain, also I wouldn’t be interested in B3 if it was £10 only. For someone else the priorities are different.
My point is - purchases are ‘final’ in most cases. You make a decision based on the given price at that time and probably the best is to ignore the following price fluctuations.

  • I'm thinking of apps that have a purely historical and training value:

    Syntronik
    B3-X
    MixBox CS

NOTE: some of the older IK Multimedia Apps were legendary in their time but now they just don't stand up against the products that followed to compete in that space.

These products are models of classic hardware instruments and studio devices. The models are implemented so well that they give you a sense of the joy of the original at a fraction of the cost. If the original hardware vendor gets a taste we'd be forced to pay a lot more so everyone feels compensated for the "intellectual property". The "B3-X" does have the current owner of the Hammond logo as a partner in the product and we have to pay for that. The fact that I paid $99 means someone got a chance to get it at $79... they needed to lower the price to meet their product targets.

This product has probably blown way the business forecast so it can sell fewer copies at $80 and still meet the business plan. A company like IK Multimedia has a large staff of employees and they have to put out those payroll checks every month. Ideally, they get to
make a solid profit and fund the creation of more products. Having a hit product in the time of Covid is probably a good thing for someone not getting a pink slip. But enough... get this one ASAP and feel sorry for anyone that misses the cut. Because they will be condemned to wait for another sale event.

Now... back to my point. If you want to understand the tools of the classic studios this app for $40 will be a class in how these tools are used and what they do to your tracks. There's a lot to learn here. 70 FX to use and evaluate... this one app competes and replaces many of my go to FX.

Don't get upset that they are seeking to find the right price point... grab it at this all time low.
I did that with quite a few apps... AudioLayer and the legendary DDMF bundle for example.
Then there's the time I grabbed B3-X before it dropped $20 more. On average I'm way ahead
at predicting when to buy. This is the time to buy... and learn more about studio secrets.

These FX are also extremely well crafted to respect the fact that they are in a support role and you need CPU for your musical instruments and want to have as many as you can before the whole engine starts to stall. You'll be impressed at how well these FX support your musical goals.

So, I thought I saved myself $20... but I actually got the product because I would have waited
for this price again if it goes up to $80. And I'd how no one to blame but myself because the reviews are positive. The value is clear.

Maybe they will also keep creating more FX modules and add them to the benefit of owning
    the "Box" already.

@mojozart I can’t see the preset Save As in the top section of Rack menu? Is this in Auv3 ? Thanks in advance

There is also a menu to save a preset per effect.

Does not work really on my iPad 10.5“ / iPadOS 14.2.

I can only save with the default names ‚preset‘, ‚preset 2‘,... (an individual presetname does not work for me). The ‚save as’ procedure is very annoying.

  • Was playing more with some of those dynamics processors tonight. This is good stuff!

  • Good news, after all of my concerns about IK in app marketing and IAP and such that has driven me away over the years I still went ahead and bought this. And after saying it will be a long time before I believe IK won't go back to old Custom Shop app ways. I guess my GAS has peaked, which means it can only get better. Woohoo!!! :D

  • My Dad always taught me to start with something simple when learning a new discipline, and well, it makes total sense with MixBox. Just experimented on a little bit of Melody and Noise for @david_2017 to get a better idea of how the Tape Deck sounded in the effects chain, and I got a little carried away with it in a good way.

Have a viewing and listen...really enjoying this Rack of Christmas goodness from @ikmultimedia

  • Back in the earlier days of iOS music, I was one of the 'those' that dogged IKM for showing ads for their other iOS products inside SampleTank (and possibly some other apps). But thinking back on what IKM has done for iOS music, I feel kinda silly to have been one of those that constantly was on em for whatever. I still have SampleTank on my iDevices and it sounds just as good today as it did back then. I still have the first iRig Keys that they released for iPhone/iPad. Remember that multi effects app that you could control by putting a ring on your finger(s), it used the front camera. I think that project ultimately failed, but IKM deserves cred and kudos for trying things like that on iOS. They create dedicated hardware for iOS. I can totally see that there is a pressure to create revenue on all of these projects. Anyway I still have SampleTank and their piano apps, they still sound great and yes it would be amazing to see those turn into AU plugs, but I won’t keep it against them if they don’t make those apps into AU. Anyway so...I’ve already forgotten why I started writing this and if I was trying to make a point...Ok then..🤷‍♂️👀

This a really good way of putting it.

One of the keyboardists from Snark Puppy is currently
promoting a ring similar to what you've described.

    Interesting perspective.

    Well said.
