    Hi!
I was wondering if there’s any way to convert from other formats to Drambo sampler.
I purchased the Samples From Mars whole pack and it’s got all sorts of kits in “standard” formats like EXS, Battery, MPC, SFV and so on... I wonder if there’s a quick way to get them to Drambo. Like AudioLayer can import EXS. Maybe some converter script or something... Otherwise it’s gonna be very time consuming doing it by hand, I might just stick to AudioLayer in that case.
    Cheers!.

The FlexiSampler in Drambo is a "one-shot" or "slice" sample player. So, a collection of samples doesn't really match the use case.

AudioLayer assumes a collection of samples that are mapped to zones and layers to re-generate an instrument.

AudioLayer could exist in a hardware Studio Digital Workstation with 67, 76 or 88 keys.
FlexiSampler has the limited capability of an early MPC sampler.

One is a Sample-based Instrument and the other defines what I think of as a "Sampler"

I meant the sampler, the big one with multiple samples and zones.
The “import folder to zones” feature in the sampler is actually pretty good at mapping samples by name. So it’s doable, the only thing that it can’t seem to do is map velocity layers, as in samples on the same note at different velocities.

I'm following your lead here and it looks like Layering requires hand adjustments. Can samples be multi-layered? This is closer to Chameleon than AudioLayer in terms of features.
But it's a nice capability to include with Drambo. I'm sure it covers a lot of basic workflows to make key driven interfaces for drums and simple instruments. More Lo-Fi than a perfect creation of an instrument but very useful for many situations.

I couldn’t decide between AudioLayer and Drambo. I was importing the Samples From Mars instruments (EXS) to AudioLayer, perfect conversion and fast. But that was a sample per note, huge files, just too much storage space and i don’t really need the amount of detail. So I made a script to remove all samples except for “C”, leaving 5-6 samples per instrument instead of 80 or so. So then it was a case of which one could auto-map samples by name better, they both do it fine except AudioLayer leaves a gap in between samples and Drambo doesn’t. So if I import samples C0, C1, C2,C3... this is what it looks like in AudioLayer and Drambo:

I don’t have to adjust the gaps. How lazy am I?. I hope it’s the right decision cos I’m gonna be spending some time making patches. Having the sounds in Drambo also made more sense to be able to sequence there if I want to, mess with velocity, randomize... If it were symphonic patches or super detailed violins I’d go for audio layer

@tahiche & @ronnieb No foreign format import but auto-mapping based on a similar file naming convention as in AudioLayer is in the works. For now, AL is your best bet.

Auto mapping works, just not with velocity layers. Also I remember some problems with the namings that came about in the Drambo forum. Like it trying to map “snare2” to “E2” but sample libraries like Samples From Mars usually have good naming with proper “xxx-C2.wav”.

This would be great. I have a python script that Expert Sleepers made to convert Soundfont files into folders the Disting Ex can load. Maybe there is someone with a bit of python knowledge that wants to take a look and see if they can reverse engineer for Drambo?

I just checked out a Drambo preset, it looks like a pretty simple xml, but that’s the Drambo side, the EXS (logic) or whatever you have to decode is another matter. It’d be some project... Even if doable it’d be sort of dodgy because of the stupid sandbox in iOS, you’d need to set the samples location in advance. Also Drambo sampler only has 4 velocity layers, you’d have to compromise... it’d be a lot of work 😱

  • @McD and @tahiche Good news: @giku_beepstreet agreed to spend some extra time on sample auto mapping in Sampler. We've agreed upon the

    {SampleName}_{NoteNameOr3digitNoteNumber}_{3digitVelocity}.fileextension

syntax and a few real life tests and fixes have been done already.

Sampler will try to map samples according to note name (also setting the root key from the given note name/number) and velocity between 001 and 127 for up to 4 samples stacked and velocity switched.
Vertical and horizontal gaps are filled automatically by stretching the mapped range to the next neighbor in a hopefully sensible way.

Levels will be uniform across different velocity windows in order to not destroy the velocity response in a typical setup where you would follow the Sampler with an ADSR that already adds adjustable polyphonic velocity response.

Since auto mapping completely relies on sample names, you won't need any SFZ or EXS files, just the correct sample names.
Batch renaming files can be done on MacOS using Finder rename or on Windows using the Multi Rename tool in Ghisler Total Commander.
You'd drop all files into one folder, upload them to Drambo and in Sampler, use the
Create zones from folder > Select current folder
    function.

    et voilà:

  • BTW, these are all AAC compressed audio files in my example, allowing for extremely compact instruments of great quality, something to consider when sharing on patchstorage. Both "filename.wav.m4a" and "filename.m4a" are accepted.

A propos sharing: In addition to Sampler presets, we're discussing a zip import and export function that would allow for easier packaging, sharing and installation of Sampler instruments.

Wow. That was fast... I may get some more use out of SynthJacker since it can create named samples like that from my favorite apps for easy import into Drambo (#DDI2).

@McD Scripts downloaded, now I got lots of them to go through... :o

How does it go? Do you have any special scripts worth calling out? I generally
follow the @rs2000 projects for useful tools to my tastes. Some of them just elude me.

After downloading all the scripts, I still have not gone through them yet, one thing I noticed was that the files were sorted alphabetically in descending order, which was odd. But as someone mentioned, without the file descriptions, it is hard to tell what some of the scripts do... I will get through them, eventually... :#

@rs2000 I've been using the Midi Mixer module. It seems to mix midi but converge to ch1. Why doesn't it leave midi on the channel it received it?

I have two devices that output midi on multiple channels. I want to merge that midi and send it to a 3rd device on the same track I thought the midi mixer would be perfect for that but it seems to ignore the midi channel and pass through on channel 1.

Any ideas on how to do that?

Also, midi output module is limited to 1 channel. Is it possible to send midi out on any channel / channel(s) received?

@rs2000 since the sample-to-key update for the sampler, I use that feature pretty regularly. I’d like to use it more for large multisample sets, but saving + naming each individual file is just not feasible. Do you think it’d be possible that all sample-to-key files made in a session could be saved to a user chosen folder, with their note/key auto generated as the file name?

    For example:
    Folder: 303
    -C2
    -C#2
    -D2
    -Etc

  • @aleyas That's a very good point. I'll pick it up for discussion. 👍🏼

Great news about improving the mapping!. While we’re at it let me put out a couple of requests:

    • Would it feasible to implement a “favorites” function/category?. It’s very useful with large libraries to be able to have quick access to the ones you like better. I guess you can do something similar saving a new version to a “FAVS” category but it’s a bit disorganized and if you change the patch you’re out of sync.
    • Renaming presets, this would be “across” Drambo. Also doable by saving with new name and deleting old, but it’s confusing.
    • Renaming sample folders and organizing within Drambo would be super useful too. I believe you can do it in WebDAV mode?. Never tried it. But I’m scared it would screw up the sampler instruments.

    • Almost forgot... When doing “Create zones from folder” remember the last used folder. This may seem trivial, but when you’re going to dozens of folders to create patches, you have to travel the whole tree again, and those trees can be quite large. It’d speed up the operation quite a bit if you could pick up where you left it. Also helps in remembering were you’re at.

    Cheers!.

  • Testing out using Drambo standalone as an alternative to AUM (which I have no big issues with). I understand Drambo does not work with IAA, but can anyone suggest a method for incorporating Lumbeats apps into Drambo standalone?

  • Also, any news on audio interface support?

  • Updated... Looks massive..

    Indeed!

    This line caught my eye:

    • Support for multiple MIDI input/output ports

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.

Drambo does it again. Latest update is amazing. Great work @giku_beepstreet and thanks for sharing your creation with all of us 👊🏼™️💕

  • Experienced some hang and crash with latest versions, using Drambo as standalone.

  • Really appreciate the M1 support @giku_beepstreet

  • Here is a little video.

    1. Slow slow slow when I open it it was unresponsive for like 8/10 seconds;
    2. Loaded and auv3 instrument, changed preset and it hanged.

Never experienced this bugs before the update.

    iPad Pro 12.9, 2020, 1tb, iOS 14.3

  • Tested previous version on IPad Pro 2018 12.9, fast and no bugs.
    Anyone else experienced this?

  • Reboot? Update to iOS 14.4?

  • edited February 2021

Sweet update for multi-midi out and midi cc modulator, just rolled my own recently using midi mixer.

  • @giku_beepstreet thanks for another awesome update! still anxiously awaiting multi audio outputs and or stems bouncing!!

  • How do you set the pattern length to 1 beat?

  • @Charlesalbert Seems like once again, only the iPad Pro is affected.
Does anyone have this behavior on the cheaper iPad models?

    +1 on stem bouncing

Some great features otherwise, really awesome update

Yup iPad Air updated and all working. Sorry to say but how many problems this pro...

  • Still waiting for audio interface and midi record update, this will be a huge step to go completely standalone Drambo experience.
