Atlas has finally been updated to V2 and WHOOOOOAAAAA BABY!!!😱

It’s not on sale but it’s already very cheap for what it does. Very similar to XO by XLN audio but I dig Atlas more and the lead Dev Matt. He’s a cool guy and very responsive. Also, it’s almost half the price and pretty much the same feature set.

    Anyways, check it out here:

    https://algonaut.audio/

    It’s really good!

Insane right? Easily the most slept on app of recent history. The developer was the lead developer for Serato Sample.

Especially great for putting kits together for iOS quickly. The AI analyzed my whole Splice, Logic 10 and Native Instrument Komplete Collection in a few minutes turning them into kits for Hammerhead, BM3 and DrumComputer. Pretty much every kit sounds great together. The sound profile algo he coded is sorcery.

I couldn’t have done a comparable job in 5 years if it were a full time job.lol

I have made some pure FX maps. Point a more standard kit to that map and load them up on a couple of remaining pads to add some flavour. Love it.

Yes please Trash 2 is amazing. If you have NS2 I could reciprocate with my custom Obsidian patches.

Can these be extracted from Trash 2? I own it, but if you’re willing to send them over, I’d happily accept.

Not only is rs2000 generous enough share the curves but rs2000 also took the time to tell me how these can be applied in Drambo with some tips. Thank you rs2000. that was very gracious of you.

How this app can analyse Komplete and convert it to bm3 ? Do you have detail about it ? :) did you try with other vst like arcade or Omnisphere too ? Thanks so much to you, I’m looking for a perfect tool to make kits in iPad quickly

    🚨ATTENTION 🚨

Please disregard my post about Atlas…I just realized the functionality (export to wave folders) has been removed in the latest update to 2.0. It can now only save propriety Atlas kits so for now it cannot do what I described above.

So sorry. The older version did this so I assumed such a needed function wouldn’t be removed. I will contact Matt to see if this functionality it is on the way in the new version.

@Lawkyz and @gusgranite or anyone I hope you haven’t purchased for that functionality yet, if so they will refund. There is a very liberal money back guarantee documented on the front page of the site.

Sorry for derailing thread. Still a great app for many reasons but the latest update a few weeks ago removed an important functionality for now.

I’ll report back when I find out more.

For now, Kitmaker is definitely the way to go for turning random sample packs, NI, MpC expansions into kits for Bm3 or other drum apps. Per latest version, Atlas is currently only useful running as a desktop plugin.

Thanks for your answer ! I already use kitmaker and I will continue :) maybe I will test Atlas to see how it’s powerful with my desktop app !

Thanks, this is important information. The removal of this functionality also removes my motivation to purchase. :)

I find it too expensive at 99 usd anyway, especially with a history of 50% off sales in the past; but it really is good at putting together interesting random kits from the drum sounds on my computer.

  • @CapnWillie Thanks for the info on this. I was super interested in the kit-making capabilities of Atlas but am I following you correctly that it no longer exports sample sets as WAVs for non-Atlas use(??)

And in a more general sense can you (or anyone) briefly detail why one'd use Atlas or KitMaker to assemble kits as opposed to the laborious-but-effective completely manual curation route? Please note: I have no interest in the pad layout formatting but rather designated kits for specific gear (iOS, OSX, and hardware like Model:Samples etc). I have a feeling there are great reasons to employ the likes of KitMaker, I'm just not fully grasping what they are.

From what I read about kitmaker, it "only" automates the manual process of assembling a kit - but someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Atlas has a better approach (well, better for me anyway) in that it went through my entire sound inventory in about an hour or less and can now conjure up random kits using sounds I never knew I had in the first place (because I have too many of them, yes). Fun! But if I can't then export these for use outside Atlas then it's not much use for me.

Ah thanks for that. Do you know if there's user-modifying how the Atlas AI assembles these kits? Is it a sort of slot-machine of "happy accident" kit combos or is it possible to "request" the nature of a kit: say mellow home-organ drum kits or a balls-out slamming ones and so on. (Or am I missing the whole point here?)

I agree about the uselessness without export and hopefully that's not a copyright-related permanent restriction for Atlas.

That's exactly what I was also hoping for myself - some kind of a "guided happy accident" option. :) But playing around a bit with the free trial I haven't found anything like that so far. What you can do is lock individual sounds as "keepers" and keep random searching for the other slots until you find the perfect kit. Which is a far cry from "make me a smooth jazz kit, Atlas".

I don't yet see how far (if at all) the much-touted AI capabilities go beyond categorising the drum sounds Atlas finds on your machine. In fairness though, they don't actually claim to do more than that, either.

  • @CapnWillie said:
@Ervin and @Proppa bad news is unfortunately I was confirmed correct by Matt Weir founder and lead developer of Atlas.

The great news is the export options and kit making ability is coming back better than ever. It was removed because it is being completely redesigned.

As @ervin suggested, Atlas goes on sale at times so if it isn’t essential kit (for me it is) you may want to wait.

@Proppa Kitmaker and Atlas both take some of the painstaking, tedious, grunt work of searching huge sound libraries for that one inspiring sound or few. That inspiring start point. Or, many of us have dared the treacherous attempt of cataloging years of sound collecting into some sort of organized file structure.

Where Kitmaker really shines is specifically users of Third Party sample packs, Maschine and or Akai expansion packs. Kitmaker quickly converts these packs from one format to another to allow you to use them in any of your preferred software or hardware. For example, I can quickly convert my massive library of Maschine and MpC expansions into Beatmaker 3 kits and take the sounds with me anywhere. That would take me forever to do manually. Likewise, I could take a directory full of MSXII sample packs and quickly turn them into neat folders of 8 sounds each to quick import into Hammerhead or DrumComputer. Again, that would take me forever manually.

Atlas Ai algo searches whatever directory including your whole hard drive if you want and finds every audio sound, analyzes and groups them according to sound profile creating a map that you can quickly browse. (I recommend scanning folders of sounds grouped by genre or manufacturer so you can set the vibe for each map ie Cinematic, Jazz, Hip Hop, Rock, Trap, etc)

As @ervin mentioned, you can tap kit randomizer and Atlas ai, quick searches the map(s) it’s created and outputs a kit. You control how many pads or layout (it has presets for many popular midi controllers and drum layouts). You can lock pads you like hit random again for sounds you don’t like.

You can also quick Fav sounds as you browse the map. This is where you can influence how the algo learns what you like and in time, it will recommend pitches, timbres you like based on favs. If you unfav those sounds, more happy accidents but most of the time, the sounds will sound great together. Atleast that is my experience.

The sequencer is the killer new edition and it is deeper than it appears. I’ve mentioned to Matt that a comprehensive manual is in order so hopefully it isn’t far off. Here is a quick video review of some of the features:

There is only one other plug-in like it XO by XLN which is more mature, expensive and much less inspiring to me for some reason. Also, Atlas lead dev Matt was the lead on Serato Sample another of my fav apps in the world so my money is on where he takes Atlas.

With all of the new drum synths and samplers on the market, I believe Atlas will be the killer app that sits between them moving the creativity killing grunt work of searching or organizing completely out of the way so you can focus on creating. Also, when export functions how it is planned it will be magical for those who want to sell, distribute, share their own Packs.

Anyways, sorry for the TLTR novel. I hope it answers a few questions.

    Thanks for the update @CapnWillie

My favourite Atlas workflow is to use the drum preview on mouse over setting. I can then hear every sound in a map - say, my Samples from Mars directory - just by hovering the mouse over the dots and then simply right click to add to the kit. Such a quick workflow.

  • @CapnWillie i did not! Cool 😎
