@Bluepunk This is a great free saturation option https://www.tbproaudio.de/products/gsatplus (I'm not sure if it will run on your new mac or not though)
@Bluepunk One ‘secret’ Logic saturation tool is the old guitar amp set to DI. it’s hidden by default, you find it by holding down the option key while you select the plug in menu and it’s under ‘Legacy’.
I like phatfx too. It’s easy to get nice saturation fx by turning off everything except the distortion module then selecting the type of distortion you want. You can choose three distortions at the same time. And you can modulate them.
One other built in Logic trick for subtle saturation is to use the vintage EQs. You can keep them flat and use the drive knob to warm things up. The Logic compressors and vintage EQs are underrated IMVHO.
The compressors are modelled after (in tab order):
Logic’s own design
Focusrite Red 3
Urei 1176LN Blackface
dbx 165A
SSL G Bus
Urei 1176LN Silverface
Teletronix LA-2A
Worth making the most of them before you worry about ‘upgrading’ them :-)
The vintage EQs stack up well to other Pultec and PG-EQ etc. modelled plugins too. They’re also very cpu efficient compared to some other manufacturers versions so you can you can use them on every channel without worrying about the CPU.
My goodness me, thank you @gusgranite and @Spud for the recs. I am off to check all of them out.
Yes, @klownshed, I read an article about Logic’s compressors in which the author said the same as you: They are very underrated. And thanks for the tips. Just used the Pultec emulation (a preset) on my vox track and it added a hazy warmth to them.
As explained, this is all new to me and the bright lights of new toys is blurring my perspective. I’d still like to have some FF guns in the armoury, but there’s always another Black Friday.
I owe you all a drink. Again, thank you
Yes, good call. BreakTweaker is really good fun and can be quite inspirational. I hadn’t noticed that was the same price.
Try this for nice saturation; (Hold Option Key, click audio fx menu, Select "Legacy->Guitar Amp Pro")
Just using the gain knob at a very low setting adds a nice saturation to pretty much anything you put through it. The key is setting the speaker to "DI box". Experiment with different amps and EQs for less subtle saturation. It's still a go-to for saturation for me even though it's ancient and hidden behind the legacy option.
Oh yeah, it's also really good as a nice and dirty spring reverb as a send fx.
@klownshed. Seriously WOW! Shoved it as an insert on the drum track and not only did it glue the kit together, but by cranking the gain to 6 it added body and loveliness. Why is this baby hidden away in the dark recesses of Logic? I’m thinking of adding a dab of it to the stereo output too. I find it easier to use than Phat, and dare I say it more analog sounding to boot. What a brilliant wee thing it is.
Thanks! Take the rest of the day off
@Bluepunk Nice to see you again, and congrats on the MBA M1. Saturation, mixing, and mastering? The Newfangled Audio Elevate bundle might be of interest to you - https://store.eventideaudio.com/products/elevate-mastering-bundle
They recently updated it with M1 native compatibility, too.
Buying direct or through an authorized dealer/reseller should make no difference. Plugin Boutique is totally legit. They are the virtual equivalent of a big box store for plugins.
Final call on some very decent Softube discounts. Each of these three is 70% off and there's an extra 10% this weekend. Harmonics, Model 72, and Amp Room; each is $48 or less.
All three are winners. Amp Room is the new one, which is night and day better than the original, plus it loads certain other Softube plugins as modules, Harmonics is really flexible in its approach to saturation and Model 72, either as a standalone plugin or even better as individual modules in Softube Modular is as good as Moog simulations get IMO.

This. $39 was a steal for some creative sampling of gear I’ll never be able to afford. First place I ever found out about the Polivoks and the Wasp.
What a cool synth. So nice how you can sculpt the sound by selecting areas from the frequency diagram. I wish there would be something similar on iOS. Bought it although I don’t really make music on my laptop apart from mastering. At least I can sample my creations and use them with AudioLayer on my iPad.
Iris is pretty cool but it’s never going to be updated with Apple Silicon support, just in case that’s important to you…

Thank you kindly. It’s good to be back. The place looks clean and tidy and is full of friendly, happy folk as it always has been. Cheers for the info, I’ll check it out and watch some reviews. Certainly cheaper than Ozone and the like. Because I’m a newbie to creating music on the laptop, I’d never heard of The Boutique and wondered if it was good and proper. Thanks for putting me right.
If you don't mind importing your samples into the Wavetable oscillator in Drambo then you could use one of the somewhat hidden spectral effects: The Wave Filters.
Unlike the analog filter models, this is a filter that operates strictly on the frequency spectrum with adjustable slope so if you set LPF and HPF slopes to hard cut any segment out of the frequency spectrum, play it on the keyboard, modulate the index etc.
Things start to get interesting when you add Wave Effect modules and mix multiple WT oscillators with different sections extracted from each sound spectrum. Lots of ground to explore.
This is high quality stuff right here, and a ton of it.
I just learned of The Private Reserve pack in an email they sent today. It's only included in their 2021 from Mars, All the Drums, and Everything (All the Samples From Mars) bundles.
I didn’t buy this samples and i didn’t know that this codes are signed for some people and this could be unfair. I’ve just wright this post because i saw that some people like Samples From Mars, that it.
@Bluepunk
Also, on the logic compressors, use the “soft” setting on the output saturation and pull the output back by 3db. Soft is the most saturated, which is counter intuitive to how it is laid out, but it sounds wonderful.
Yum Audio has some rocking deals plus a free plugin.
The full version of their "Lofi Pitch Dropout" is currently free. Don't choose the lite version for 14 days free - choose the full version at no cost.
If you like their stuff, now is the time. You can get the full Lofi Bundle for $79 or all plugins for $99 (it's basically 2 more plugins for $20 is the difference).
Normally, just their flagship "Lofi Flux" plugin is $99 on its own. Very solid products.
Word to the wise - if you use PayPal to check out and it seems like it doesn't go through, check your account licenses before processing a second time. I never got indication payment went through and double billed myself (almost triple billed actually!).
At minimum - grab the free plugin!

Freakshow industries have increased their prices, but they will let you underpay or even 'steal' their software direct from their site.
It's your conscience :-)

I wound up getting slate reverbsuite classics- that sounds great. It was $49 on their website. Until yesterday I wasn’t even aware of that plug-in.
Then the bad news after I bought it- I realized slate needs to use physical ilok, no machine authorization. I put it on my ilok, but I didn’t want to have to carry that around with me if I want to use it on the go. Oh well, hopefully at some point they will consider machine authorization.
Yea I saw that, too. But I don’t have an iLok dongle and I don’t plan on buying one. Both Relab and SSL use iLok but at least without the physical dongle.
I wondered why I sounded like Adele and not Shane MacGowan. Yeah, if only. Thank you for the nudge.
Waves email yesterday:
"ENDS TODAY! BIGGEST BLACK FRIDAY EVER!"
Waves email today:
"CYBER MONDAY STARTS NOW!"
Haha, yea typical.
that's a good one for getting some movement, I use it quite often, though I have the whole Shaperbox (which is also great of course)
Well, it was the biggest Black Friday... now it's the biggest Cyber Monday.
Hi @ervin
Thank you again. I pulled the trigger and it was worth it. All iOS apps see all expansions
This is how it looks on my iPad:
iOS SynthMaster Player: 800 factory presets + 31 expansions = ??? presets (there is no counter)
iOS SynthMaster 2: 1943 factory presets + 34 expansions = 4117 presets (+ 303 presets on-line)
iOS SynthMaster One: 1282 factory presets + 13 expansions = 2026 presets (+ 433 presets on-line)
If anyone would like to pull the trigger with EverythingBundle as well, I confirm that all green expansions works on iOS. I didn't try to synchronize presets via Cloud. After register with a new serial number I used the: (SPlayer:) Restore purchases, (SOne:) Download Bonus Presets, Download Desktop Expansion, (S2:) Download Bonus / Desktop Factory Presets. There was no problem with downloads.
Is that an Ableton screenshot?
