@blueveek thanks. I will wait for the manual or some more videos.... I am sorry if I am frustrating you. 😂

Far from it! Thanks for informing me about how you're using Atom. It's probably representative of how others do it too!

I get the feeling like me, @onerez is maybe seeing an atom clip a bit like a single instance of say, Riffer (which bears a superficial resemblance to Atom) , where you can send midi to 4 separate tracks from inside it (correct me if I’m wrong!), so we’re having to try and rewire our brains a bit!

  • Yup, wholeheartedly agree. See my other answer here.

Thanks @blueveek! I had read you previous answer, and I'd be happy to test your new ideas when they will be ready of course :) !

  • Bought the app - looks great - haven't had time to explore thoroughly yet, but I'm doing a bit of music gear buying/selling, and a launchpad pro mk3 is one of the items under consideration.
Apologies if these questions have already been answered in the massive threads. I'd happily RTFM if there was one, but an answer here from those who've had a chance to play would be much appreciated.

    1. The clip launching process launchpad/AUM looks fantastic. Can this combination in AUM easily mix and match audio clips with midi yet (the key word being 'easily'? Or will I be waiting for Loopy Pro/another app?

    2. Are conditional trigs/probability included in atom 2? If not, are they planned?

That's it. Thanks in advance for anyone who has the time/generosity to help out.

It's definitely a departure from what most are used to. That being said, I am considering adding functionality for "clips within clips" or making instances capable of doing more than neatly abstracting a single clip. However, sometimes I do wonder if this isn't an issue that should be conceptually solved at the host level: you wouldn't even think about "clips within clips" in Logic Pro for example (at most one might want "variants" or "takes", which are already available through Phrases in Atom).

A manual is in the works!

    1. The clip launching process launchpad/AUM looks fantastic. Can this combination in AUM easily mix and match audio clips with midi yet (the key word being 'easily'? Or will I be waiting for Loopy Pro/another app?

You can easily MIDI map the launch button and pick between various launch modes. Track exclusivity is only available on scripted controllers for now (Launchpad Mini Mk3, X and Pro Mk3 as of now), but I plan to surface it via a preference for all situations (be it from incoming MIDI, mapped parameters, or the controllers as usual).

    1. Are conditional trigs/probability included in atom 2? If not, are they planned?

Probability is applied to notes, with a global factor that mutates while set. There is no "launching probability" for now, but if I understood your feature request correctly, it could be quite neat. I'll log it.

Thanks for the response and for all your work on this app, @blueveek. On point 2, I was actually referring to Elektron-style conditional triggers per note - ie notes that trigger once every four times (1:4) or 2:4, 3:5, only once, etc etc. Any chance of this?

Now that you've said it, a 'launching probability' would be excellent!

  • Sorry if this has been asked already, but is there a way to assign a MIDI note to switch patterns within a clip?

No. In the current implementation there isn't pattern switching. It may come down the road.

If you find it ergonomic, don't be scared to have more instances. I can manage 500+ Atoms on my iPad pro with minimal CPU and memory use. In fact, 512 Atoms use 99,7mb of memory in total :)

  • I am looking forward to the manual. I've been using it quite a bit in AUM to get instances triggered using various other midi apps as well as Atom 2 itself. Among the exposed parameters is octave, so using Midi LFO on that has been fruitful. I would like to see even more parameters exposed, if possible. I like finding happy accidents, so anything that you can add (even parameters that might not seem musically useful), would be interesting to me.

  • @blueveek

Can you close all hosts in which you're using Atom, delete the Atom folder on iCloud, then try again?

Tried that several times and even deleted Atom and reinstalled. The large fonts JSON is gone and will not restore.

Could be relevant: my iPad was telling me I was out of iCloud space but there was actually 600mb free. I succumbed to Apple, upgraded to 50Mb of iCloud, deleted the Atom folder again. Atom restores the default and fat fingers JSON but not large font JSON.

FYI, "large fonts" is a style and you can find it in "set style", not "set config". Is that it?

Maybe implementing mute groups and link groups (and a global option to set them on or off) ?

Maybe implementing mute groups and link groups (and a global option to set them on or off) ?

The main issue is that you have two competing expectations (AUM vs. Launchpad). Or at least, that's my general intuition. If I make AUM parameters choke by default, many casual AUM users will be confused.

Agreed. For instance, I use a column of Atoms for multi-track sequences. So, I need all of them firing at the same time and would be annoyed if I had to jump through hoops to avoid choking.

Would it be tricky to make the default behavior an option?

@blueveek quick question about the Probability parameter in Atom2. Any plans to support per note probability in the Piano Roll. I love the feature but not on a global level.

    Many thanks. 👊🏼™️

    +many

And this might get into mutate territory but being able to set alternate notes per note and set the probability for the “group set” would be ace! 50% root note. 25% fourth, 25% 5th or something like that. Nobody builds this kind of musical logic into probability and mutation and it’s so in line with how musicians think. Would really cut down on the need for multiple patterns, too.

@blueveek First of all, congrats buddy! I have kind of a silly question. If I buy Atom 2 on my iPhone running iOS 13, would I be able to download it on my IPad Air 1 which I can no longer update past IOS 12.5.1?

No worries. To be fair, the distinction between a "configuration" and a "style" is largely architectural and seemingly arbitrary from a user's perspective. I'll think about unifying the two.

I've set a cutoff to iOS 13 in the previous release, since there was literally 0 users on it and I had no way of testing. I'm already trying to get to the bottom of controller scripts not working on 13, and it's exceedingly difficult without a device. If you feel strongly about it, let me know in a DM and maybe we can do some beta testing.

  • Apologies if this has been asked and answered. I’ve done multiple searches, looked at the Wiki, and read the GitHub docs, but I’m not finding anything.

Is it possible to assign names to MIDI notes, for example a drum mapping? I was hoping this would be something I could configure and load on my own with a config file.
