Boom. Thanks! Does the iPad charge via the USB-C port as well? I have an iPad Pro 2021 model.
Yep !
Hrmmm...found it for around $340 with shipping+tax...so it just might end up here someday
“The host is for MIDI.” Just for clarity, I have a powered USB hub plugged into it with a couple keyboards and controllers and a synth plugged into that. The manual for the OLDER version of the iCon4c, the iC4+ is very applicable to the newer unit. It is available on the iCon website. I’m really liking mine.
Do you use Auracle for settings? I used to have the iconnectaudio4 and just didn’t like it. Their software sucks across the board.
I’m pretty sure that GarageBand iOS can only ever send out one stereo output. Are you saying that it has changed? Or did I miss something?
I realized GB was a bad example. But it sounds like it will work with AUM and Drambo which i use regularly.
I’ve had better luck with the iConnectivity iConfig program on Mac. Apparently it is no longer supported but seems to get the job done. If you had the older model (4+), you may not like the newer one. Best I can tell it is basically the same just updated to USB-C.
Their software is quite sophisticated - it just suffers from a few not so fortunate design decisions.
You‘re judging the book by it‘s cover only
What do you think?
Deck has a 48khz, 16 bit soundcard and not sure that any soft synths on the same idevice that becomes a line input of audio4c. will be using the sound card or if soundcard is just for dj program, which recognises deck but think it seems wise to choose the same khz/bit for the audio4c ( which will dictate x2 aum ) Id manually set the aum of the 3rd line in device to be the same as the audio 4c. What is acceptable for a system. Different khz from a line input or different bit?
Thats if I bother with a 3rd device. I mean there should be times when a digital deck is good so might use a 3rd device as a synth screen. Wasnt sure how much sound quality would be affected as a line in source but now sound quality might be affected as an overall system and still need to check if a timecode signal kind of amplified through a line in is also ok ( as mixing frequencies live ) All for a deck to be avaliable but might be worthwhile to add a 3rd cheap idevice. Would maybe sell a volca modular but might just keep it around. Should I find line inputs with a soundcard be problematic but if its just a case of actually making system khz/bit the same ( as to no audio fleks ) or able for line input to be worse quality because of being able to be a different khz/bit, then the rest of channels/recording. Is it then just like line input of a cd player lol?
Think if I decide to buy another cheap idevice to just make audio4c be 48/16 as it will just be youtube vids of noodles but if I dont bother with youtube, then Id need to know if the line input can just be 48/16 and audio4c be 24 bit. Or 44khz. All this makes you think what apps are there actually for a 3rd screen but I doubt id buy an ocoast. Then again do I need so many sound sources. Mic ( obviously with a volume control ) and a volca drum in synth mode for additional wierdness, with also the line input of deck/3rd idevice.
Could anyone advise if the the 4c is capable of sending 9 stereo channels out from iPad into a Native Instruments Maschine+ (which supports class compliant audio interfaces apparantly)? And vice versa?
Thanks.
(also as an aside, the previous model is available quite cheap used, is this just as good my purpose?)
I don’t think concurrently as it seems as there is a limit of 20 channels. So I have 18 out from iPad to Mac and 2 out from Mac to iPad. But you could change the mapping to be the other way round if you didn’t need 18 out and 18 in at the same time
You may send as much as 10 stereo channels from one device.
In that case the receiver cannot send back (all 20 channels used by one unit), in your case 1 stereo pair is left for that purpose.
But you have to configure it with iConfig and set routing accordingly.
If your iPad is an USB-c device it needs an adapter to the lightning port of the iCA4+ for charging. I have no idea about what‘s available...
Thank you for that, I understand. But to the main part, do you think it will work getting audio into the Maschine+ ?
Sorry, missed that. I don‘t know Maschine‘s handling of external interfaces... but would expect a class compliant unit to „see“ those 18 inputs on it‘s USB port (if there‘s USB audio in Maschine).
I could try with a Raspberry clone or my Win7 box, though.
Well Machine+ should work with most usb compliant audio interfaces. I guess I should buy and try. Thanks.
So a while has passed… how are people feeling about this unit now that they have spent more time with it? Or any new adopters that could offer up opinions?
I’m leaning heavily toward getting one for Xmas. Could really use the integration between my iMac and iPad and a central place to host midi controllers for both. I have a Focusrite Saffire pro 24 for my desktop but it is acting a bit dodgy (age, Big Sur, focusrite weening support…. not sure). Thinking to keep it as a secondary interface to my computer, but would use the iConnectivity AUDIO4c as the primary interface. 🤔
I have the older 4+ model, and it’s pretty good.
Mine stays warm all the time if plugged in, even when powered off, which I do not like. This is, apparently, expected behavior.
One thing to note: some of iConnectivity’s MIDI boxes also do audio. They don’t have analog in/out, but they can send audio between devices, just like the 4c. In fact, the MIDI 4 can connect to three devices simultaneously.
I love my 4+ too, I still get confused sometimes by the routing, but the basics are great and I just updated my iPad to 15 after some issues with digital crackling (I think sampling rate/timing issues with iOS), seems to have sorted it out…
Interesting…. I hadn’t realized the midiboxes could pipe the audio between devices like that. Thanks… will investigate
They are excellent boxes once you have driven yourself crazy with the routing possibilities
Yeah, I’ve tried to fall back to a simple setup with it now, only occasionally adding extra routing when I need it. The MIDI side is vast though, again I’ve kept it simple there. Routing audio in and out of ableton and aum is just incredible though; I can just about live with it playing my guitar through a double routing setup, get to use all the lovely auv3 stuff and the touchscreen feel of the iPad straight into daw land 😁
Another extremely happy iCA4+ user here. If I haven’t used it for a while it takes ages and a fair bit of confusion to get the audio and midi matrix right but once done it’s super stable. A little hotter than all my other kit but that’s fine.
My latest issue was a high noise floor (with no sound sources) and this seemed to be caused by using inputs 1 & 2 with line signals. I’m pretty sure I could have just dropped the volume in the software (but I seem to remember I disabled the internal mixer). My solution was to just use inputs 3&4 for now and that fixed it.
One of my fave purchases. Ive had it for three years without (hardware) problems. Would recommend a second hand one but they’re never advertised imho
I have an iCA 2+ and I bought one of those to switch it off completely.
Just search for „12v dc inline switch“
I worried about the heat thing, I always turn it off with the big button when not in use and power down the four way that feeds it. I also have it mounted on a mini tripod that I assume will maximise heat dissipation. One thing I wondered recently is whether a usb-c to usb-b cable would work with the older 4+ to connect it to modern gear (I’m thinking a silicon MacBook Pro)…
It does. I use one with my iPad Pro.
Schweet, thanks 🙏
@krassmann I think I have a few of those switches, that I used to use for guitar pedals!
If you're interested I found an Audio4+ here at 150€ plus shipping. Reliable seller.
I saw it in the shop with all cables and in excellent condition. No box.

@Tatobx Thanks! Probably a bit far for me.
so I read through the user guide here, but couldn't get a clear idea of how to do the allocation of "up to 10 stereo channels from one device" (that being, as I understand it, the max available for dynamically configuring to and fro). Quite possible I'm just not understanding the manual.

I saw above mention of iConfig. Does this work under Big Sur? I see "Mac OS X 10.10 to MacOS 10.14" listed on iConnectivity's site. And is that the only way to access the many audio streams between the two usb devices? Looks like the only documentation I can find for iConfig usage is in the manual for the iConnectAUDIO4+ (not "C"). Haven't had a chance to read through it yet (tomorrow!)

Thanks for any more help/insight! Still VERY interested in getting one of these!
