Anyone remember what Skid Row used on 'I Remember You' to make the electric guitar sound like an acoustic? I think the song pre-dates the AC-2.

Haha, talk about nostalgia. What I remember from the Guitar mag interview in the early 90s - their acoustic was broken, so they just double-tracked their Super Strat and added effects in post. Notice that his Strat is missing a string? (Ignore the acoustic in the video, that's just for show).

Wow, no kidding? Ovations sound pretty terrible, so I guess I never gave it another thought that it wasn’t an ovation. Skid Row was great, definitely one of my favorites from that era, at least on that first album. Sebastian Bach is a great singer, too bad they can’t get along.

    Hi!
Can someone comment on the Poly Octaver?. If it’s any good I’d get the whole thing just for that. How good is the poliphonic tracking?
    Cheers!.

Haven't tried Zoom in years, will have to check their latest models. I used to have an obsession with ultra-low wattage tube amps, but ditched it all for NI Guitar Rig. Nice to have AU3 options on an iPhone now. Pretty amazing actually, imo.

Same. I had a Zoom multi fx for guitar 15 or more years ago. It was the pusiest pile of pus I had ever plugged my guitar into. It was so brittle it made a fuzz pedal sound like a chorus. After many, many videos I convinced myself they might be worth a second go so I bought the A1X Four. It sounds good and does all I want for acoustic work. They've come a long way in my opinion.

Hahaha, I totally had a Zoom 505 as my first effects unit starting out in the late 90s in jr. high. It sounded terrible. There was in particular this one sample and hold computerized effect that literally made me puke once.

lol 😂 I had the same little pedal thing! I’ll never miss those stupid little buttons on the sides of that thing.

It says a lot about what was available at the time. Gawd I’m about to puke just thinking about it.

  • I had the 505 too, and I still have the 507 reverb/delay/chorus unit, love it!

    Oh God!

Can @flo26 get back from Senegal in time to help us determine if this is worth picking up???

My first thought when this was released was I can’t wait to hear @flo26 opinion on the sound.

I have a feeling the lukewarm response would be different if ToneStack announced the price would go up to $79.99 in a week. (Or whatever the ultimate price is going to be.)

I kind of can't believe that I'm arguing in favor of artificial scarcity in digital products, but there it is....

I don’t know why but I feel like it will be $19.99 for the app, that’s What Kaspar and Roxsyn are at regular priced, and at least double for the IAP if not triple, so $40-$60. This is complete speculation. The way they describe the intro deal on the App Store makes me think it’s more then 1/2 price off.

With Yonac, always get the newest app and all the extras as soon as it’s introduced.

  • I bought it as I think $5 for a good FX app is a generous offer from Yonac, even though I likely won't use the amp sims. I think it's also important to support the developers who have made a long-term investment in iOS apps.

@Poppadocrock, I see in Tonestack GO that regular prices are: Motherload 1 is 59$, Motherload 2 is 20$, Motherload 3 is 20$. In total 99$. My speculation are that after current sale Tonestack PRO will up 5$ -> 15$ and "Pot o' Gold" IAP (which include all 3 IAPs content from Tonestack) will up 20$ -> 99$. We will see who will be closer ;) but I don't bet on anything, because I'm weak at that :)

  • One of the older amp sim products could import iTunes files for practicing with backing track from CD's. Does this product have that feature in it's recorder option?

  • @Ailerom Zoom seems like a bargain these days, didn't they pioneer tiny digital multi-effects processors in the 80s with that tape cassette-sized box? I remember wanting one so bad as a kid, but it was way out of my budget. The little Korg Pandoras that came later were amazing, imo.

@mrufino1 I recall several other bands of that era using their electrics to simulate acoustics on several songs. Scorpions, Cinderella, Metallica, etc. Plus of course the ADA stuff and post-processing.

Pairing an Ovation with a Countryman DI was fairly popular for mellowing out the piezo quack. I found the roundbacks uncomfortable to hold and play, always sliding around.

Is that the one that that had a grayish-brownish plastic enclosure? I picked up one for $2 in a thrift store about 17-18 years. And it did sound truly fucking awful. It is THE sole reason that I avoided digital emulations for years and years.

I have a friend who attended one of the weeklong Robert Fripp workshops/summer camps that he used to hold in West Virginia. Fripp required all of the attendees to bring one of the Ovation Roundbacks to the camp. He insisted that it was ideal for being able to maintain the “Robert Fripp” tuning.

Ugh, I hated my Pandora. So fizzy sounding. I still have it in a box somewhere, I think. Wanna buy it? :D

Zoom was my first Amp/FX pedal. Wasn't great by any means, but did the job for me when I couldn't afford an amp or any FX pedals. That thing was under $100 I think.

I bought the 'standard' Tonestack Pro: for my eyes and ears it looks and sounds exactly the same as the previous version... But it's AUv3 and for only € 5,49 it's cheap!! And you get a nice build in taperecorder + tuner also, and the preset-management is outstanding. I find the midi CC assignment a little tedious (you have to do that for every preset!), but it works. The first thing I did in AUM was replacing the Tonestack-cab(s) from some favourite presets with my own IR's in IMPULSation... Much better!

I love the little 8track recorder in Tonestack. I make roughly 90% of my recordings on it.

“It’s so easy and intuitive even a guitarplayer can understand it immediately!”

  • 'Fizz'. That was the dreaded word back in the day of the Pod and J-Station. Like opening a soda can. The Yamaha DG Stomp was great. Maybe something to do with its 20-bit plus 3-floating bits A/D conversion? I have no idea.

@JeffChasteen Ovation and Fripp's tuning. Sounds wild, was he an endorser?

  • Still no testimonial videos?

  • And risk oat_phipps scorn over the quality of the playing? :D :D

(just kidding. I thought it was pretty bad too.)

@flo26 said he'll be on it but is traveling right now

  • This is just like "Interstellar"! Will flo return from Senegal in time to demo this before the sale is over? (Or will Anne Hathaway not get to the viable Earthlike planet before Matthew McConaughey falls into a black-hole tesseract to transmit to his adolescent daughter via bookshelf and Morse code the secrets of future time travel?)

  • Why did you guys even have to purchase it to know the sound was going to be ugly? 😂

  • What are the 30 included FX that come with the app? I’ve looked around but can’t find the info.

Definitely could be. The Go is the lite version, even less features then the regular ToneStack, so you have to make even more purchases to unlock everything in the Go version, compared to ToneStack 1. I guess we shall see.

Dude, this was practically in the last century! :D There weren't no goddam uppity internet music forums and and YouTube influencers to help a guy out. You just read the ads and tried shit out. It wasn't all that horrible compared to anything else out at the time 'cause there wasn't much else out at the time and it all sucked. That one just sucked for a bit cheaper than most. ;)

( @oat_phipps - that sick green mold stuff in the cracks grosses me out. Did you buy it that way, or did you puke on it?)

Ha mine’s long gone. Just a Google image

  • Just giving you guys shit. 🤗

Thankfully I was too poor for stuff like that. I ended-up with a DOD guitar equalizer and this bad boy:

I can hear that picture. Unfortunately.

  • Why is it under water?

  • 1990s: 'Friends' TV show, coffee shops, Zoom 504.
Pretty popular tool back then. Heck, even Jewel used one.
