BM3. Man I miss this and need to revisit it.

Hello,
So I watched Dean’s live stream with BM3…. Uggg I need to revisit it. Or maybe its just that Dean is a great Magi and rocks it!!! Anyway BM3 is so easy to grab a part of a sample and morph it into something great. I need to re-download BM3 and work with it some more…. Maybe it will stop some of this stupid GAS i am having for a MPC 😂.

Here is link to Deans video…. He had a few audio issues in the very beginning so skip pass that.

  • Going to watch this also, my problem is that I'm just not good enough with sampling :D, don't think the tool is the issue. I have seen people do crazy things in Koala and other, I don't think another DAW is going to make or break it for me...

  • It would be awesome if koala could snag a couple more items from the sampler.

I think one of the items I would take is the part where you can make a looping feature.

  • BM3 is pretty great but so is Drambo. 😜

But seriously. BM3 is the best emulation of an MPC and Maschine on the iOS platform.

@onerez you need step in to that flow 👊🏼™️💕

    DRambo is DRambo. 🤩

    Agreed.
When needing to get songs happening using samples BM3 is super fast.

    Yup, dive in.

  • BM3 sampler really is on another level entirely. I love loads of different samplers with their unique personalities, but BM3 sampler is POWERFUL!

@OscarSouth is it possible to use an instance of BM3 in AUM to act as a sampler? Trying to say I would just like to jam with BM3’s sampler as an instrument in AUM. A bit intimidated by the DAW side of BM3, but crave a sampler with its features. Also… not looking to do live sampling…. Just craft sampled instruments and then play them

  • I never use BM3 either. For me it’s the realisation that I don’t want an MPC workflow on iPad.

    But I love the sampler.

It’s a shame it’s not available as an auv3. I’m sure the developers must have thought about it and decided it’s not worth the effort, but it’s sell for more or less the same price as the full version of BM3 sells for today, surely?

It’s obviously flogging a dead horse to bring it up, but I’d use the sampler in another host a lot more than I use BM3 (which isn’t even installed on my iPad at the moment).

I usually use it like this -- just stick to only 1 bank so all parameters are exposed (or treat each bank as a different 'patch') and use the mixer as a submixer/effects processor stage.

  • @mathieugarcia if you’re out there, please come back to the light and make some Au clone sampler of your glorious creation.

  • I’ve been wanting to give BM3 a spin as well. (I’ve never made anything with it - could probably count on one hand the amount of times I’ve actually started the app!)

I saw something where someone had a 64 pad layout a while back and thought ‘hey that would be cool to use with my Launchpad Pro MK3!’… but never looked any further into it.

He parted ways with Intua a few years ago. But yeh, some kind of reinvention of the sampler part would be awesome. I imagine it would have to be a complete rewrite and redesign to avoid legal issues.

Could just "rewrite" it a la Behringer....

    Mapped to my LP X.
    It’s a lot of fun.

Using it with pads gives it
more of an MPC feel for sure.

I’ve just done three remixes with it.

No he didn't, he is one of the owners of Intua to this day, he no longer develops Beatmaker.

    Thanks for the clarification. 👍🏼

  • I would also like an AU sampler version but I don't see it happening.

There is a lot you can do with it that is kind of unparalleled on iOS. As a complete DAW I just find it too overwhelming and quirky.

  • Don’t forget the sEgments app from Elliott Garage. It’s a nice little sampler with some nice features and is AUv3 as well:

A very cool app, but it's time-stretching is unfortunately low quality.

  • Is it? I need to test it out. Been using it mostly for slicing and note playing.

Yes. I posted comparisons of it and BM3 and Koala. BM3 and Koala are of similar quality (as are some others), sEGments is very different. I'd post a link but the site search is not being super helpful.

I found that I got used to many of its quirks, and now I even prefer some of them. For instance, the whole midi macro thing seems like a convoluted pain, but makes lots of sense when used with a controller, as it’s easy to have the same physical knob control different virtual knobs, depending on your selected bank.

It’s quite a lot of work to learn it though.

  • The scene mode is actually pretty dope. It is similar like working with Korg Gadgets sequencer. And iirc you can export single drum stems from a drum channel which is pretty nice for mixdowns.

@espiegel123 @echoopera Digistix2 Just got experimental time stretching in the latest update I wonder how that compares with BM3 and Koala?

Perhaps you could test and post examples. There are a number of apps that are solid in this regard: BM3, Koala, Cubasis, ZenBeats, Auria Pro, Blocs Wave/LaunchPad, Twisted Wave, Auditor (but it needs tweaking as it has a lot of parameters). There are probably others.

As nice as an AU sampler would be (I like non destructive setting of ranges on looooong wav files) I can’t really think of another timeline based AU host that I would want to use it in. NS2 comes close but automation has improved a lot in Bm3 now (as far as splitting and merging patterns etc) that I would probably just default back to BM3 anyway. It really is so much smoother than it was years ago.

  • I can't help but wonder if we'll see any updates to BM3 during 2022...

At one time there was heavy chatter / rumour food about Mathieu working on a new amazing app.

  • @CapnWillie said:

Now why would you go and do that? 😩😂

    Just because...

...I still wan't something similar to Live's Simpler, Logic's Quick Sampler or Cubase's Sampler Track as AUv3's for iOS/iPadOS and none of the current offerings come even remotely close when it comes to smooth host integration...

On the other hand I'm slimming down my apps a lot and spend most of my time with Drambo and SunVox...
...with occasional noodling in Cubasis, Koala and AUM with a bunch of other AUv3's.

Don't get me wrong, I like BM3 but it needs some TLC from the developer...

    Cheers!
