Where is record then?
Record button appears automatically in AUM.
In standalone mode you need to "toggle it on". It is off by default to conserve battery life.
Follow the instructions in this video starting at 1 min 22 sec to get the record button:
Thanks so much. No way I would have found that.
I'm pasting in the essentials of a conversation in the Sales thread because it pertains directly to Neon and should go in the main Neon thread:
Bob
Neon is a godsend, I use it to render my clips in cubasis using sidechain instead of using the mixdown or freeze options. Fast and clean.

This is an interesting idea. What’s the benefit over freezing and moving the frozen file to a new track?.
Simon
Someone else on the Forum had a neat idea: "I’ve been inserting Neon as an AU effect in GarageBand to capture individual tracks. Save the recording to Neon’s media Bay, open another instance of Neon simultaneously to access the clip elsewhere. I use this to capture smart instruments to use in an AUM session." Yeah - Neon is like AudioBus and AUM... a "must have" tool.

Without using the realtime mixdown option in cubasis I always get messed up renders, even with latency adjustments, it also takes ages before the render is finished. Using neon instead, the selected track or loop is recorded in real time without any issue. (Btw suggested by @Paa89 in one of his YT vids) Cubasis is my main daw, I love it. But using other apps in order to get things sorted is our thing. Honestly, I only use Neon for this, knowing it can do lots more.

How does the sidechain work?
Bob
1. Add neon as insert effect on a separate track and then activate the cubasis sidechain to the track you want to record.
2. In neon you hit sync, long press record and select the last option sidechain, then the record flashes red.
3. Hit play in cubasis and off you go.
4. Save to neon mediabay and share to cubasis as audio file.

Loopy Pro can be used this way, too.
Thank you, @Bob.
I’ve been doing this very thing in NS2 using 4Pockets’ MTR since pretty much the day MTR was released (inserted as an instance in the track-to-be-rendered InsertFX chain).
Simple, clean, really really quick - and a great way of baking 3rd party auV3 effects into the capture where the auV3 effect plugin(s) don’t play ball correctly with the device’s dynamic switching of sample rate (which messes up using NS2’s excellent “individual track mixdown between markers” functionality).
Neon takes the same process to a whole new level though - it’s MTR on steroids when used for this particular purpose 👍
Is there a user manual for this app? And does it have any features that are missing in Auditor?
EDIT: to answer my second question, it seems that Neon can run as AUv3 whereas Auditor only runs standalone.
Yes, that is a needlessly obscured function. It probably should be visible the whole time and a long press would then activate or deactivate it.
Paul has a series of short videos that show all the features. Watch a few of these and you'll see the kinds of things the app can do.
Here is the playlist:
Paul explained there was a reason he had to do it this way in order to get the app approved.
About the Warp mode : I noticed a huge audio degradation when I apply the Warp mode. I tried with different audio settings but, particularly on bass sound, it’s like a ring effect is added to the sample.
I really don’t know what might cause this problem, how can I solve this ? Thanks !
There probably isn't a solution...other than Paul implementing a better algorithm....which is difficult. Very few developers have managed to create a top-notch algo on their own. Most of the apps with excellent time-shifting license their time-shifting.
hi yall.hope all is well.
With the cubasis 3.4, you can freeze audio and midi tracks with Koala and Neon as insert effects.
You don’t have to save Neon or Koala samples to files APP to reimport into Cubasis.
here is a video demo
there has been an fix in Cubasis 3 which lets you freeze and audio or midi track with Neon as an insert.
you don’t have to save the Neon sample to Files
I hope the developers have their own place to chat and discuss. Word is that the Koala algorithm is self coded and it sounds good. Have discussed this with Paul 4Pockets too. BM3 is the standard on iOS I think so probably using a licensed algorithm?
Version 1.17 is out:
Added a new Vertical Scaling option to the Settings menu. When enabled you can scale a selection using vertical pinch and zoom. This allows you to raise/lower the volume of either left or right channel by pinching in the upper or lower half of the waveform. To adjust both channels pinch at the centre. By default this option is disabled.
Fixed a drag issue when drop mode set to 'Drop In Place' when the editor is empty.
Attempted a fix for the Loopy Pro multiple instance crash on session load.
Fixed an occasional crash converting files from mono to stereo.
Added the ability to sort the Media Bay by date or name (in settings).
Added top/bottom sample guide markers in the editor for 0dB.
Good to see Paul again! 🙌🏼
Anyone knows which is the best way to contact him in regards to bug reports?
support @ 4pockets.com
Cheers!
Please, need help from anyone more experienced with Neon. I wanted to use it for a very simple task but went trough every button and option and seem to not be able to perform a simple action: cut out / delete selected part of waveform. Is there a way?
Also, when I used Neon as AU to record external stuff, I get recording always stopped after few second (e.g. 10-15 second), while the manual states something about 15 minutes. Any idea what's wrong?
Thank's a lot for help!
There's a new video from Paul:
Does anyone know if you can disable time stretch in this yet and just speed up/slow down the old fashioned way?
Hy bus
with today's latest update, the app crashes on startup, does it happen to you too? ipad pro 10.5 - IOS 15.4.1
for now it seems to me that au is loaded but not tested to work, only problems with IAA for me…
UPDATE:
all smooth I only had audio busy with zoom and couldn't boot💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
So I got Neon when it was on sale and will try to send Paul some constructive ideas when I can calm down...
Were are the simple things like 'snap to zero-crossing' when setting the start/end of a selection?
How do I set the bit-depth and sample-rate for the recording? (In stand-alone mode using external interface?).
With the 'Grid' is disabled the ruler still has some kind of un-defined snap-distance?! (Same as 'scrub'?).
(I would personally prefer to have NS2 style handles to adjust the selection).
Can we 'slip' (ie. scroll left/right) the waveform if the start transient of a loop ends up at the end of the loop instead of at the beginning due to 'timing issues'? (Ie. the loop is correct length but the loop content needs to be time-shifted).
Blocs Wave does this very well, just enable 'slip' and pan/scroll the waveform.
And yeah, I've had Neon Standalone crash on me a couple times within 10 minutes of use... (11" M1 iPadPro iPadOS15.6)
...my iPad is set to share crash diagnostics to the developers so I hope they reach the dude in charge...
I'll do a few reboots/re-installs and see if it becomes more stable or something?!
I know there's plenty of 4P fans here at the AB forum so I hope the 'Neon Fanbois' will come to the rescue...
...and tell me what's so 'amazing' about it
@Paa89 I know you've spent some time with Neon and might have some 'advanced' tips and tricks to share no?
One of the main reason I got Neon was the Particle thing, effects and being able to quickly process sounds thru AUv3's.
And well to create samples for use with other apps (This is where it would be really handy to be able to adit and embed loop-metadata to *,wav files).
And well Auditors UI is starting to hurt my eyes so I would not mind if Neon got a 2.0x scale for the UI, it can be scaled down but not up?!
Time to cool down now, even when it's +30°C outside in the shade...
Cheers!

Am I blind or is there really no ’delete/remove selection’ in NEON?
Hi,
I add my 2 points :
Also note that the developper is VERY responsive when you publish comment on his YouTube channel. He added 2 or 3 of my suggestions very rapidly this way. So you should do this way preferably.
I can’t find any contact info on his YouTube channel and commenting on a random Neon video feels a bit wonky!?
Feel free to forward snap to zero-crossing when making a selection and delete selection.
Two very basic features I’m surprised are still missing after all this time.
This app is NOT good for my blood pressure…
Just cool down and take the app as it is at this moment, or ask a refund. You behave like a little kid.
And just look 8 posts above yours.......
We can all have our bad days, sorry if I upset you…
Please disregard my 'brain damage' in the posts above...
...I've now composed a feature request e-mail to Paul and await his reply.
Cheers!
Yes, just comment one of his Neon tutorial videos. He will surely reply and often it is favorably - depends on the “relevance”though…
You did not upset me, but I was surprised by your reaction. I know you are capable of analysing music apps, but this was really too much.
Cheers!
