I did analyze it quite deeply and was surprised that some very basic things were/are missing
(Such as snap to zero-crossing when making a selection and remove/delete selection, a selection can be made ‘silent’ but not removed/deleted).
There was a hidden function to select the internal mic when using a headset which was nice.
As said I’ve sent an e-mail with plenty of these basic things to Paul and await a reply.
I will then add a request to show the ruler in samples in addition to time and bars/beats etc.
This will be handy when there’s a need to trim a sample to a specific size/length (think wavetables). The pen to draw/edit the waveform works quite well so being able to create a new file of a specific lenght will also make the next list.
A switch to set the default sample-rate and bit-depth when using an external interface unless there already is one that I’ve not found yet!?
Also asked for a ‘slip’ function similar to Blocs Wave when the beginning transient of a looped recording ends up at the end and f the sample. (Ie. enable slip and swipe the waveform to scroll the content left/right to adjust it so th end wraps around to the beginning).
And finally as Neon already does quite a good job at pitch-detection so adding the information to the meta-data when saving a *.wav file would be usefull when using the files with other apps as would adding bpm and loop-points to the recording. (In addition to the particle mode this would add monophonic keyboard sampler capabilities to Neon).
Rest assured I’ll keep a constructive dialogue with the dev that will hopefully be benefit us all.
Cheers!
The remove/delete selection is the missing feature that keep me away from using neon from day 1 when I bought it. An editor where you can’t edit?? That’s one of the main things for what I use an audio editor. let’s hope Paul Bring it in a n update
+1 I've sent him an e-mail (to the support (a) 4pockets address) with multiple detailed requests and it really is up to him to add them or not. I'll try to keep a positive mindset towards Neon...
As someone explained above, you can use cut to remove audio. It isnt ideal because it wipes out the clipboard’s previous content though that hasn’t often been an issue. Multitrack recorder has the same issue.
It does 'work'. Guess I'm just too used to TwistedWave and it's X button to delete the selection.
One of the main reasons I got Neon was the 'particle thing'. It's pretty unique!
The workflow of using AUv3s to process sounds (in Stand Alone) is a bit smoother than with TwistedWave.
And it can be used to 'sample' AUv3's even though I've not yet found a way to select/set the bit-depth for the recordings.
To get proper support for external multi-channel USB interfaces (ie. channel selection, sample-rate selection etc.) I have to use either BM3 or Auditor to do the sampling which has made me partially return to using TwistedWave and Logic on the Mac...
I did some research and couldn’t find an answer....this is a clip (singular) launcher, right? Each instance has a single clip that you can launch?
I can’t use it to load multiple audio files (in one instance) that I can trigger with different midi notes?
Thanks, usually I have the clipboard loaded with other audio I need to insert so I can’t use that workaround in my workflow. Instead would be great having true editor tools…
For strictly audio editing, Auditor is my go-to. I use Neon for when I need those features Auditor lacks.
It is for single clips. Loopy Pro is probably the best option for a multi-clip launcher..especially as a host.
Thanks for the info @espiegel123
I've gone back to TwistedWave as my main audio-editor since Auditor is not available for the iPhone.
For adding loop-metadata to the *.wav files I use either BM3 or Auditor.
(Mostly BM3 as it can quickly add the meta-data to the file as long as the waveform is not modified).
NS2 is just about the only app for the iPhone I've found that can embed loop meta-data when saving a *.wav file.
Most of my field-recording is done with the iPhone using TwistedWave as it allows me to select any of the internal microphones while monitoring thru the headset. (I can monitor thru AirPods when using the iRig Mic HD if I need to)
I guess for now we'll have to live with a combination of using multiple apps to cover the features the other one lacks
I emailed him a couple of times to see if he’d consider adding a no-warp feature, effectively disabling time stretching. Useful for breaks and stuff where you actually want them to pitch up when they speed up and not lose quality.
Never got a reply so I wouldn’t hold your breath.
I must be doing something wrong or the app doesn't allow to edit at sample level. Even with the grid turned off I can't select anything at sample level making that app basically useless for EDITING.
Hello,
Normally you should. If you zoom up to the point you see each sample represented by a dot, you should be able to select only a few samples - or just one - and edit them.
Unless I don’t understand well what you mean…
Maybe if you post a screen recording of what you are doing, someone will be able to spot why it isn’t working for you.
You can do sample level editing, but as far as I know it doesn’t have an option to display time as samples.
whatever the zoom level, even when it shows a dot for every sample, the selection snaps to an invisible grid, and that grid is too big at sample level. I just can't select anything.

I didn't zoom more in that video because there is nothing to see: I can't select anything
Are you selecting in the 'ruler area' or on the actual 'waveform'? The ruler always has some weird snap even when disabled?!
We can't see where you are placing your finger. Zoom in to sample level (where you see the dots) and make your selection by tapping and dragging in the sample area not the ruler area. You will be able to select as little as a single sample.
I touch the screen where the dots are.
I don’t know why it isn’t working for you. As you can see , I am able to select a single sample.
uninstalled, reinstalled, just in case.
same behavior. Trying to select part of a sample has some snapping whatever I do. I didn't even knew you could select in the ruler. It turns out the selection in the ruler and on the wave have different snap behavior: the ruler snap is two times smaller than the wave.
Might as well buy another app.
is Grid OFF? at top next to the time sig. it must be off to select samples.
As you can see in the screen capture I posted, sample accurate selections are possible.
yes it is
I can see that. Don't know why I can't do the same.
you might try Auditor instead. it can use samples in the timeline. then you can set the length of the selection manually in samples. you can also lock the selection length for convenience.
When I'm zoomed all the way in, the selection highlight on the screen is shifted just to the right of each of the sample nodes. But, the selection is actually operating on the individual samples.
I think what it's showing is correct, though it may be confusing. It's showing what will be acted on if you do something like clearing the selection.
Your issue could be completely different, but that's my guess at the explanation for what you're seeing.
when all zoomed in, I can't even select anything: the invisible grid is too big. all I can do is move individual samples with the edit tool.
I tried it on the iPhone and the selection works as on your video, but the screen is really too small to do anything.
Back to the iPad, selection doesn't work.
It sounds like something is messed up with your settings or there is maybe an OS related issue? Below is Neon standalone on an iPad gen 6 running ios 15.7.What OS are you running?
exact same as yours: iPad 6th gen 128 iOS 15.7
