  • Well. The effect thing. Can just send the track to a dj program ( after ) and use aum to overdub.

So its just overdub. Auto clip launcher and maybe control of audio levels.

    Neon or loopy?

  • AUM stacking is not working for me even using exclusive the clips on the tracks don’t stop, all clips continue to play. anyone succeed to make it work?
    Thanks

  • Sorry to insist.
But does anyone succeed to use staking with neon.
    Still doesn’t work here.

  • @Jeezs Works well for me. Make sure you don’t have Sync enabled when you’re using Clip launching.

    I don’t have sync activated.
    I don’t understand.
I have the same problem with Helium.
I will investigate a bit more.
    Thanks for you answer

@jeezs, here's a detailed step by step to use Neon clip launching:
    1. Launch AUM
    2. Add an Audio track
    3. Add Neon to the Insert & Effects node. Note that this isn't strictly necessary, but if you're going to use multiple exclusive clips, it's more visually pleasing to have the nodes be the same size.
    4. Load the Neon buffer with a sample
    5. In Neon's AUv3 window, touch the sliders icon in the top left toolbar area , then touch Launch, then touch the semicircle icon in the lower right. This places the launch button in the AUM layout. Make sure that Sync is disabled - you want to launch manually.
    6. Start AUM playback, then touch Neon's Launch button. It should start at the next measure. Touch the Launch button again to stop the clip.
    7. Add a second instance of Neon in the AUM channel by double-tapping below the first instance.
    8. Load the second Neon instance buffer with the clip you want to alternate with.
    9. In the second instance, touch the hamburger menu, then Clip Launch options, then Launch Button Options.
    10. Select Synchro Start: EXCLUSIVE
    11. In the next dialog Set Stack, choose Yes to set all instances in the stack to EXCLUSIVE.
    12. Close that menu, reopen the hamburger Settings menu.
    13. Select Audio Monitor, Enable. In the Set Stack dialog, select Yes to set both instances to allow audio to pass through.
    14. Open both Neon instances, arrange them so they're each visible, along with their Launch buttons. If you want to clips to loop continuously until you launch the other, long-press the Loop button to select and loop the buffer. For a one-shot, disable looping.
    15. With AUM transport running, touch the Launch buttons to trigger each clip. By default, they will switch at the next measure, though you can adjust that in the Launch Button Options menu using Launch Quantize.
    16. If you'd prefer that clip launching occur at the end of the clip instead of the next measure (or beat), open the Launch Button Options menu, then Synchro Start, select CLIP END.

Helium is basically the same approach.

Nice one. Also thanks for the timestamping you do for Paul’s videos

Wow, thanks! Ive been on the fence with Neon, now its looking do-able and worthwhile. At first I thought: neon = Cliplauncher? Seems like a sweet AuV3 audio editor but…

    Dork questions:
Sounds like you’ve full on integrated into you’re workflow?
    AUM is you’re main host/hub?
It’s magnificent but has a lot of moving parts and procedure compared to a more conventional host.

@Littlewoodg I use Neon like a Swiss army knife. Clip launcher, editor, warping tool, slicer… it has become a very capable AU. The recent update to AUM allowing stacking in a single channel makes it much easier to manage in the AUM workspace.

Neon is also quite useful to move samples between hosts. For example, I often load it as an AU effect in GarageBand to capture a smart instrument, save the buffer to Neon's media bay, then switch to AUM and load the clip into an instance of Neon in AUM. Or, you can copy the buffer from one instance and paste into another.

You can also drag and drop from Neon to Koala. This comes in handy if you want to refine the sample before sending it elsewhere.

Another great use is as a round-robin slice player. Load up a multi-measure clip, slice it on measure boundaries, then select Round Robin mode to randomly play the measures, triggered by MIDI. I often use this with a bass line or rhythm guitar part for variety.

Big thanks again. I’ve wanted to get comfortable in AUM, and Ive been tempted by Neon. The roadmaps you’ve shared are encouraging on both fronts.

I follow your instructions and understand why it doesn’t work  I’ve settled « play »instead of « launch » in the sliders menu.
    Thanks for your precious help.

Great idea - I didn't think of using it to get sounds out of GarageBand. Thank you!

Looks interesting.. but I cannot get the Blocs Wave export in to Neon.. there is no Neon showing up in my ‘list’.. would be nice to have it working..
    Thanks..

    Edit.. 4:45 into the video..

  • @RajahP i have the same issue trying to export Bloc Wave files to Neon , as Neon does not come up as an export option.
I will reach out to Paul the developer and report the issue.

Mr. 4Pockets is one cool developer! I wish all software companies jumped on bugs as fast as Paul.

  • Use cases for neon in aum?

Some are using with NS2 for audio tracks.

    Some with koala.

I envisioned finishing stuff in cubasis which should allow for audio cropping.

So using in aum. Thought Id build a sample stem pool. Which would be better then using mtr or even audioshare or even wave. A sample pool with mtr as a possible timeline ( if not clip launching ) would be easier then an external app. Instead using neon.

    ?

  • To confirm and cant return mtr anyway but neon cant be a timeline. Move sample along timeline?

    Neon exports at 24 bit?

Can you set a duration record to stop. Maybe punch in/out.

Were maybe going to continue a project. Practising scratching so were maybe going to send samples from neon to jamm pro.

  • New update

  • Hello,
Sorry, a quick question : is it possible with Neon to select only the left channel of a stereo sample before applying an effect ?
Ok, medium question now : is there a list of built-in effects available (Eq, Gain, Reverb, Noise reduction, etc.) ?
Tough question : is Neon the best choice if my main intend is to edit samples, remove noise, clipping, at bit-level, etc. (I don’t really need multitrack, MIDI) or should I look at Hokusai, Auditor or something else ?
    Thanks a lot !

  • Okay, this video by the dev himself answered all my technical questions about Neon :
    https://youtu.be/BZx94Tje1gk

I discovered that Neon allowed external AUv3 plugin, which is great !
Sorry, I didn’t go through the previous 9 pages of this thread (too exhausted from all the other BF threads 😅).

  • Has @4Pockets made it so you can avoid the time stretch algorithm yet?

  • Hi, new to Neon. I’m pretty confused about the different behavior when placed in an instrument slot vs an effect slot in AUM, when using as a clip launcher/recorder.
Is the “launch” option only available in the instrument slot?. Does that mean you can’t synchronize the “play” action of a clip in an fx slot to the master beat?. I don’t understand why it should cabe different!.
Or a,mi missing something?. I’d like to be able to record (only possible in fx slot) but also play (launch/stop) in sync (seems not possible in fx slot),

  • @tahiche, the only difference between loading Neon in an effects slot vs instrument slot is the ability to record. If you want to stack instances to use Neon as a clip launcher in AUM, the additional instances are loaded in effects slots, since AUM allows one instrument, but multiple inserts per strip.

Not sure. If you hold tempo. It says following or detatched from temp host. Maybe it means theres sync?
