Here I set up a buss send in AUM, my favourite iOS AUv3 host, and used the trick Hainbach talked about in a recent video to invert the input to the reverb. You can see in the video how this is done using the invert node in the stereo processing tools in AUM - it adds an otherworldly and richer sound to the reverb, here provided by Klevgrand Rum.

Hmm...didn't quite get that...can you elaborate?

I've added a more elaborate description to the pinned YT comment. Please comment there if anything is still not clear, will be more useful for any other viewers who are confused, a lot of ppl don't know how to use fx sends, nor the aum internal fx / tool nodes . 👍

Thank you, that was the part I was wondering about, how to use the Invert node...

I had also never looked for this til I saw this Hainbach vid (which very briefly shows him using it in Ableton). Quite a neat trick!

If only this thing didn’t have so many beautiful free packs available!

Woven Strings is a collaboration between Jon Meyer and violinist Avery Bright. They sampled his violin, viola and octave viola in 2 separate articulations, drones and phrases. The drones are quiet and intimate, while the phrases are both beautiful and haunting. The UI allows you to control the level of the drone vs the phrases, as well as a few other parameters. Generally you will play the drones with your left hand, the phrases with the right.

Woven Strings...love that library! I'm layering it with NFO Alternative Chamber String Longs for some nice background strings

I'll have to check that out, thanks! I've only scratched the surface of all the stuff available for this on pianobook. If the dev can work out the bugs, this will be one of my go-to apps for sure. For now it is wonderful but flaky. I definitely wouldn't want to be using big packs in any live situation, nor small ones for that matter, given the issues with instances loading dead in AUM. But wow, so much beautiful material out there!

    Just sharing my Pianobook experience...

    • When I try to load an instrument over 1GB, it doesn't work. Under that seems to be fine every time, so I tend to stay away from the large sample libraries.
    • My process is to:
    1. download the Pianobook library
    2. Go to the downloads folder and select the zip file to unzip it
    3. Check for any non-Decent Sampler stuff, such as Kontact instrument files
    4. Compress the file into a zip
    5. Delete the original download and folder used to make the zip
    6. Still in the Files app, rename the zip file, changing the extension from .zip to .dslibrary. I think this may be unnecessary, as Decent Sampler will use zip files to install). I like to do this step anyway for the nice icon
    7. Move the .dslibrary to teh Decent Sampler folder on the iPhone/iPad
    8. Select the dslibrary file to open it in Decent Sampler app
    9. Select YES to import it into Decent Sampler

I made a folder in the Decent Sampler folder named "Installed" so I know which ones I have imported.

Just a couple of addenda to this:

    • You don't need to move the dslibrary to the Decent Sampler folder, but it's a good place to keep it.
    • After importing the dslibrary, Decent Sampler stores the uncompressed data internally, and also saves a copy of the original dslibrary file. If you care about Storage, you can delete that extra copy of the dslibrary from Decent Sampler under iPad Storage in Settings.
    • Watch out for a downloaded zip that contains a dslibrary (zip in zip). Decent Sampler will not accept that; you need to import only the dslibrary.
    • You can share the dslibrary directly from Files, instread of importing it using the app.

So as @Gavinski was saying, at step #3, you could edit the WAV files and the dspreset files to make your own custom edits. You would need to change the dspreset file to a txt file in order to use a text editor to modify.

I use FE File Explorer to manage these files. It lets you edit a dspreset file without changing the extension. I've used this to change a few control defaults, and change some filter frequency knobs to logarithmic. You can find the Decent Sampler format on the web.

Dave, I don’t see any way to delete the extra copy of the dslibrary in Storage settings. Am I missing something?

Just tried this combo and it sounds amazing. But as soon as I switched to chrome to write this comment while playing back an AUM session using these two DS packs driven by Fugue Machine, all sound dropped out. DSP is just around 40%. RAM issues again…. Still struggling to find an optimal setting for this.

I don't think so. However you installed the files did not trigger the extra copy. That may be the difference between sharing to the app and importing from the app. No worries.

  • I'm having trouble with the desktop version. I just downloaded a (paid) pack on the DS website, but it won't load. My other packs will load.

I need to update DS, but my Mac won't install the file from the pkg file. Some bug in MacOS Ventura, I gather.

Can anyone share or send me a link to download as a Zip or Disk Image of the latest Decent Sampler for desktop (Mac)?

    Version 1.7.7 for MacOS please.

I've loaded the file in DS on my iPad, working fine. Must be the outdated version I have on my MacBook Pro that's the issue.

It won't download you mean? Here's the zip - oh no, file is too large to post here. Try downloading on another device of you have one, then Dropbox it to yourself I guess

Having got Decent Sampler working fine on my iPad, with the new Luminance instrument, I went to import it to DS and on my iPhone. I keep getting this error message:

I have purchased it, and am logged in with the correct account.

The buy button is active, the download licences button is not.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Won't you get it though if you just download the Luminance zip on iOS and send to your mac? Is a license needed? Don't think so. Theoretically you could share purchased DS libraries with anyone

I have two separate DS issues:

    MacOS Ventura:
I try to load Luminate on MacOS. But my DS app on MacOS is very out of date —
Download DS update (install failed error — MacOS issue). This error seems to be happening with certain PKG files. The file is Decent_Sampler-1.7.7-Mac.pkg

    iOS on iPhone:
DS working fine, but a sample instrument I bought last night won't load, saying product not purchased.

    iPadOS on iPad:
    All is working just fine.

Ah, damn, not sure what to recommend. For the ios issue - try and try again like you had to do with Panic Girl Fundamental presets 😅? Restart maybe?

Some people have reported that copying/moving the pkg file to the Applications folder and running it from there works...

To permanently solve the problem and install pkg files from anywhere another option is to go to System Settings/Privacy & Security/Full Disk Access and check Installer app - if it's not there, you should be able to add it using the +button under the list of apps. You can find it in System\Library\Core Services.

Update (hangs head): iOS issue resolved. I wasn't logged into the correct account on my iPhone, as I thought. I've now been able to load the instrument. I've reported to Decent Samples team the issue with my Mac not installing the PKG file.

Did you see my comment above? It looks like it's a problem with Ventura which prevents some pkg files being run from certain locations like Desktop or the Downloads folder. I gave a couple of options you could try which have worked for others having similar problems - good luck!

Yep, issues have been constant almost, since launch, it seems. Which was a pretty long time ago, like more than a year and a half if I'm not wrong. And they don't just extend to iOS. I got Nige to check out a free pack for me that sounds extemely distorted, especially at low pitches.

    https://www.samplescience.info/2022/10/singing-bowl-renaissance.html?m=1

If you have both Kontakt and DS, compare the sound of the 2 libraries. DS sounds appalling, Kontakt one clean as a whistle, according to Nige. Both use exactly the same samples. So it's not an issue with the sample recordings 🤷‍♂️

  • And before I thought these kind of problems happened only while playing a few notes. But for affected packs, they can sometimes even be heard playing just one note

Yes, I gather the issue is with Ventura. I keep running into it now. I missed your answer, I'll go back and look for it and try to resolve. That would be brilliant if I could get it working.
