What do we think of drive-bys?
Drive-by: to drop some information on an internet forum without engaging with the members of that forum.
I was going to post this on the latest thread by @jakoB_haQ but I didn't want to derail it. A lot of work goes into those videos.
My thoughts are that they take more than they give. I can see the video on YouTube, if I wish. I can engage with it on YouTube, if I wish. So it feels like the thread is about "look at me!" Now, you will say "well, duh!" Ok, so if anyone else posted these then they would not be seen in a positive light. I guess the law of attraction may well deal with that but still.
Let's say that YouTubers didn't do this. They didn't ever post their videos here. I'm sure that some people would be put out. They get a benefit from those threads. So subscribe to their channel and hit that bell!
I guess I feel that drive-bys do not bring anything to a community, do not respect that community and aren't about that community.
What do you think?

Jacob is active and responsive on the AB forum, soreferencing his video post as an example for youtubers drive-by posting isn‘t fair. But maybe i‘ve misread your post.
In my opionion there aren‘t many drive-by posts on the AB forum. Yes, several active members with YT channels post their new videos, but they also chatter about other stuff and engage in discussions. It‘s not all about getting new YT subscriptions
I am sticking up for Jacob
He brings lots to the table
He’s responsive if you mail him
He’s been around for ever, he’s quite respected here
I also may of read your post wrong
But I think using Jacob as an example is the wrong choice
Unnecessary polemic here. Jacob is at home and I am always happy to read or watch his posts.
I’m good with them, I’m subscribed to far too many YouTube channels, so I’m often only aware of some of the ones posted here because they are posted here 🙃

I always like to hear from Jakob anytime he drops in.
A bit like a one of your favourite uncles visiting the family who always brings a nice gift with him.
I'm unable to watch anything on the actual YouTube site because it's a complete shitshow, so I rather appreciate when interesting things get posted here.
Yes, people do this, and it’s annoying, but Jakob isn’t one of them.
Don’t those numbers prove @ashh point?
Personally don’t mind, since there’s not much stuff focused on iOS music (compared to hardware & desktop).
But sometimes the drive-by takes a wrong turn

👍 😂
Much ado about nothing 😉
I love that i do not have to always Browse YouTube to find great iOS videos.
AB Forum allows Creators to notify us early.
Now the bigger question is, when you watch these videos do you watch them inline or on YouTube?
If you watch them inline i don’t think the view counts for the Creator.
Also if you like the content do you Subscribe or do you just rubber neck the Drive By and not participate in what is being Shared.
It’s a two way street of interaction. Creator Viewer and Participation.
We all like to take and take and take and not Give as much as we take at times. As a content creator of sorts i put a lot into what i share. I hope to do more but i do what i can with the time i have.
I enjoy this forum and feel recharged to participate here with everyone.
But as in life we can’t please everyone with the good we’re trying to do for the world. 🤔
Peace Love and Blessings to All 🙏🏼💕
I think there was little reason for this thread, let alone bringing Mr Haq into it.
“Taking the Piss…” phrase comes to mind 🤪
To sum up: bad things are bad, good things are good,
Jakob Haq is pure gold. Cheers Jakob!
complaining about a member of the community that has been so helpful to many IOS musicians .just because he drops a link to his youtube so we iOS musicians can check it out .What do I think ? I think it’s lame to even bring it up and make an issue about it . most people that do drive by on this forum are members of this community . maybe he doesn’t want to engage in forum talk maybe he communicates best with the youtube video ? i don’t know ….that’s my thought .
have a nice day 😃
That recent ios retrospective was the equivalent of a thousand posts. Jakob is just ahead of the curve where this tappy word bullshit is going the way of the telegraph.
Don’t worry. All of this will soon be fixed as soon as the MetaVerse comes online:
There will no longer be DriveBys because we will all experience the pure bliss of DriveIns.
I don’t search YouTube for iOS videos, and it’s algorithm doesn’t stay focused on iOS, so it’s nice to get notifications for videos covering iOS on this forum.
I dealt with a far more annoying version of drive-bys growing up, I’ll take this version every time! Also I like it when vids, links and such get posted here because many of the iOS vids on YouTube are buried and don’t get attention from the algorithm because computer stuff (not going to pretend to know why). So I’ve found a lot of helpful vids only because they were posted here.
I have to say I do think it’s great when the influencers share their knowledge on threads they haven’t started themselves to plug their own product. Some are very generous indeed like this. Others not so generous. The recorded number of comments an influencer has made means nothing if they’re only replying to their own posts on videos they’re promoting. It can look a little shallow if they rarely take part in anyone else’s discussion.

Dank!
I have enough broken down cars in my front yard I don’t worry about it too much.
I very reluctantly interact with ALPHABET/Google/YouTube as infrequently as possible. Unfortunately, for tutorials and how-to’s that interaction is a necessary evil. I greatly appreciate watching imbedded videos. I’m sorry if that doesn’t add to posters’ bottom line. Also, this forum is my only “social media” outlet. I’m careful about my mental health…
I see it as more of a ‘heads up’ to the the forum, for those that don’t follow on YT, and didn’t know about a new vid. Sure it’s part promotional but it’s also letting people know.
I read 'drive by', and thought it was a new pizza delivery company.
I didn't realise it was embedded youtoob videos.
How else are they supposed to advertise their channels.
They get roasted if they stay and get slated if they go.
I'm sure delivering pizza must be easier.
Ahhhh...
Oh well...
