I've followed this thread with lots of interest.
For a long time I didn't post my videos here for exactly the reason @ashh pointed out, I felt like it would be perceived as some kind of self-promotion without really contributing anything else.
This was further reinforced by the fact that my post got hardly any comments if any.
And just to be clear I do read this forum every day and have been a member since 2013.
I do also engage with posts when I have something I want to add.
I have recently started to post my videos here again, so I hope that doesn't cause offense to anyone.
I think if the general consensus was for me to stop, I would stop, but I think most people are Ok with it.
Anyway, I'm off to do a Drive-By for my new video🤣
Reading this made me think that there must be something innate in certain British folk as I feel the exact same way as you Doug, and maybe that’s why I could relate to the underlying point @ashh was opening up for discussion.
BTW @ashh, there’s an ace book that came out in the naughties titled "The Tyranny of Niceness" (my day job for many years involved creative strategy so my bookshelf is a tad overpopulated with behavioral science tomes of this ilk!). It sums up and confronts the fundamental social dysfunction of niceness. This often gets amplified in online communities and permeates a culture of groupthink over individuality and frank honesty. I occasionally recognise this tendency here on the AB forum. The prevailing attitude isn't very tolerant of criticism (constructive or otherwise) of apps, developers, or 'influencers'; particularly when it goes against groupthink. And I think this thread is a perfect example of what often happens when someone questions groupthink norms.
Or maybe people just didn't agree with him...?

The salient thing here, IMHO, is that every bullet point I made begins with “I”. Yes I do feel a “we” and that feels great, but, bottom line, I come here for me… and that’s what I think (me, again) most of us do… except for iOS saints like @Samu, @Telefunky (where is he? I hope he’s ok) and maybe @wim (wim enjoys his knowledge fame, I suspect, so that precludes sainthood and makes him merely a great, informative and fun guy). My good droog @McD provides a unique perspective and is music knowledge unequaled, but I think he uses the forum as his psychiatrist’s couch. It’s good I don’t mind being lied (layed, laid?) on top of… We, on the autistic spectrum, like Temple Grandin, love that…. Still, no sainthood for McD.
The rest of us, @ashh, @simon, @espiegel123 (you old contrarian) @jakoB_haQ and the thousands of lurkers (voyeurs) are just normal folk who do or don’t flex their personalities once in a while. To my mind that’s a pretty good community. One where you can be silent, contribute, take, make a wave, make mistakes without being rejected, be funny when no one else thinks so… well, damn, that’s pretty darn good, I think (there’s that “I” again!).
So, happy Thanksgiving, you Americans… and the rest of you, who only worship Black Friday, keep resenting that Americans think everyone celebrates Thanksgiving…. that’s what makes us human beans. All power to the DAW! 👊🤔

Yes - when I have no money to buy new app , and Im boring (because my workflow fail sometimes)
No - when I have good time with current apps, so Im skipping videos.....
until I found my interesting before buying advertised app.
Then Im happy to be able to see video, and make decision about eventual buy.
Language barier still exist on my side .
Especially when I like to say a lot, and dont know how.

It is like SMS, you can open it anytime, no pressure.
I like all posts here more than random videos from youtube with a lot advertisemens (short and loud at beginning).
Sorry , I like this orginal subject, because sometimes I felt too poor to buy next app.
So my mind try to compensate this "lost" with negative thinking about advertisement.
But when I seen Drambo first letters, videos etc I known alerady it is mine, I must buy it now!
And simultaneously Im glad to have such videos waiting for my money, they are atractive, not all of course.
IMO it is easy to buy a lot, but hard to undesrtand what we really need - without trying first. So we should buy, and videos are important. Even without speaking with developer, it is worth to read yours opinion great people! For example I have no KB-1yet and reading thread related to this app was so pleasure, even if I still not bought. So! @wim! I know what is happening here. In the ABF forum. I know what @ocelot was on about (I think). I know why some people have said that they resent others on here. I know why your face was all scrunched up when you read my words. Let me explain...
Once upon a time there was a forum where devs got together to talk about making apps. It was a place where they were amongst their peers. Sure, from time to time some plebs came along to ask questions about something but really, it was a place run by a dev for devs. Everything was beautiful, in its own way.
But then ... dun dun dunhhhhhhh! The plebs took over! Aaaaaargh! They weren't respectful of the OGs, the zen masters of the code. They wore t-shirts with Make Music Not Apps on them and other thoroughly disrespectful slogans. The OGs faded away, leaving just a burning coal of resentment in the hearts of a few dramatically dejected devs.
A few years later, some other pleb got the idea that this was a forum for people who make music and asked a question that stirred up all that shit again.

It's okay for folks to disagree with one another. That's natural. But it's not okay to make bizarre assumptions, to confuse questioning groupthink norms with ordinary disagreement, and launch unprovoked personal attacks.
In your OP, you singled Jakob out, and stated that he and others "take more than they give", "do not bring anything to a community, do not respect that community and aren't about that community". Then you asked "What do you think?"
And folks gave you their opinion. I hope you learned something. It's time to wrap this up.
I usually find, after a little self-examination, that most burning lumps of resentful coal I see other people carrying around are more often than not actually mine.

It was me that made the connection between something @ashh said and “The Tyranny of Niceness” book, you can’t blame Ash for that.
With regard to the negative outcomes of online social media tools (whatever their ilk, we’re not just talking forums here), there are reams of scientifically researched literature on the subject. The ultimate negative outcome is the level of polarised opinions in the modern world. That inability to recognise that life exists in the grey ultimately leads to conflict. There's also a dangerous tendency in gen Z folk (and their parents to a certain extent) to always be searching for approval from their peer groups. The ironic thing is that many of these same people eat up the parodies of 'likes' being more important than money in modern economies (Black Mirror and suchlike) but they're unable to recognise the same traits in themselves.
From my perspective, I say again that I thought it wasn't smart that Ash personalised the discourse he was attempting to create to Jakob. But I do think the core point warranted discussion.
But I also agree, enough already!
If we combine this thread with @Poppadocrock’s app sales thread it can go on forever. How’s that sound?
Also, since we’re down with the resentful coal metaphor… my grandma always said (she had a this disease that limited her to saying just one sentence over and over)…” two coals burn longer than one”. Not sure about the resentful part… maybe that’s about climate change.

Sorry, but I hardly think you could have characterized the history and current state of the AB forum more inaccurately. I haven't been here since the very beginning, but have been for a long time. If I didn't know you were talking about this forum it honestly never would have occurred to me that you were.
If that's the viewpoint from which your original post was made, I guess I can understand a little better what prompted it. As it is, we're in two completely different realities. So ... in that respect ... I guess you did help clear up my confusion about why it bothers you.
