Please let me know what school shootings has to do with anything here.

Well in principle nothing, as it was a thread about sharing a song, but I was exploring if your politics could condone limiting weapon ownership to protect kids. As you don’t think protecting people is a valid reason to enforce vaccinations.

I want to know where you draw the line between people having absolute freedom and other people being affected by that.

I wouldn't bet on that happening in any of our lifetimes. Plus, forum posts are forever.

Not only you define who’s a communist (apparently I am), what’s extreme left and who is antifa, now you’re also a virologist.
I’m 99,9% sure you’re in favor of gun possession, 2nd amendment, bla, bla. The right to “defend yourself “. Yet we don’t have to the right to “defend ourselves” from those that, against all scientific guidelines, deliberately put other in dangers by refusing a vaccine and wearing a mask. It’s liberty, except if you’re black dude jogging in a white neighborhood.

I wonder how it’s weighed if someone wants to defend themselves from a potential carrier by using a gun? There’s got to be parallels with terrorists in there somehow…

    (I’m totally being stupid/silly btw)

I'm glad you added that addendum. Had me concerned for a second.

I’m pretty sure some folks are struggling with it as a dilemma for sure though

You are making an ass of youself here...

    • Australia does not force people to get the vaccinated. YOU ARE WRONG.

    • Police here do not "beat" people who do not get vaccinated. There are skirmishes at anti vax rallies, like at any public demo. YOU ARE WRONG.

    • There are no "camps" here. Some people are required to go into quarantine in nice hotels (at taxpayer expense). No "camps". We did have lockdowns where you stay at home except for grocery shopping. No "camps". YOU ARE WRONG.

You need to be careful what "news" stories you repeat. You might look foolish. Again.

All I have to do is provide one example each to prove all of those counterclaims wrong. And there are examples for each.

How’s the state of “freedom of speech” in Australia? Not looking healthy by my estimation.

You and your "magic news links" that prove everything... you shouldn't believe everything you read on right wing "news" sites.

I actually LIVE HERE and I can honestly tell you that the idea that there are "camps" here is totally nuts.

Go ahead post your links... your credibility is zero for me these days.

LOL. I specifically avoid providing links to heavily partisan sources whenever possible. If you care to inform yourself before launching into personal attacks, feel free to review the links I provide. I don’t even recall the last time I ever posted a “Fox News” link, because they’re usually just as bad as their competitors.

Here’s one person’s experience, which I provide because she is interviewed:

I'm sorry that it has come down to personal attacks, but it has got to that stage for me.

You are obviously a very intelligent person who enjoys an argument and you seem like a nice guy in other respects.

But these arguments are really not worth the effort for me. Not because of your views, but because of your argument techniques.

I might chip in now and then but I think will leave it to younger, fitter people than me.

Ha! It does look very nice there, but the government there seems just as nutty as the one we have now in the US. That’s not a slam on the people there, by the way.

  • Here is our evil Nazi-like prison camp:

    https://aecom.com/projects/manigurr-ma-village/

Unlike Dachau, our torture camp received a "State commendation award for Urban Design – 2014 Northern Territory Architecture Awards".

  • " In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it. It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality, was tacitly denied by their philosophy. The heresy of heresies was common sense. And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable what then? "

We have a right wing party in power (actually a coalition of 2 right wing parties, the Liberals and the Nationals). They have been in power for quite a few years now.

Our Prime Minister Scott Morrison visited the USA and was great buddies with your Mr. Trump.

The weather is good, the people easy going, and we don't have the gun violence that seems to be a problem in the USA. It's not a bad place to be on Earth at the moment.

  • @Simon ... but ... in Australia turds flush down counter-clockwise. As much as I hate to disparage an entire country - that is just plain wrong.

The US has a 'mentally ill individuals problem', which every country has. You can't create laws which suddenly result in sane people.

Other countries have far higher deaths per 100,000 population:

Far-right does not describe my position and I do not identify as “far-right”.

You’re not far right but Biden is extreme left. Ok bro, thanks for clarifying.
Can you now tell me what we should call:
A ) that to the left of Biden. Those of us apparently beyond the extreme-left, there’s ton of us there.
B ) what are you if not far-right?. Are you center?. Slightly to the right of center?. If Biden is extreme left and you’re center… what the hell is extreme right?. Does it even exist or is the political spectrum a sci-fi dimension defined by other rules?.

Right and Left assume a linear scale. Libertarians reside above the simple axis.

Once free of these metrics they are free to move about and defy being pigeon holed.

Can’t agree more. They’re too lazy, lacking creativity and plain ignorant so they keep using “our”metrics which are obviously meaningless to them. Like trying to explain quantum physics through gravity.

They often hope to see both right and left fail because that suits their world view which
is often a personal solar system where they occupy the controlling gravitational nexus.

There's a comforting feeling to being the center of all existence.

All in the name of Jesus who, let’s not forget, was a radical communist antifa by their standards.

Here’s just one example of problems connected to Communists… State sponsored propaganda mills. They are real and here’s one source of analysis from Stanford (report from December 2, 2021): https://cyber.fsi.stanford.edu/io/news/twitter-takedown-december-2021

Rich capitalists (the Koch brothers) for example but there are many others) also engage in propaganda. They even use tactics like twisting recent interest in mindfulness amd Buddhism into an 'everyone is responsible for their own happiness' agenda that suits their ambitions for a 'minarchy' as you have referred to it. If you look at early Buddhism and the emphasis on monastic life, it had a clear understanding of the importance of social structures and community.

Big Money and big business are highly manipulative. They're just a hell of a lot better than it than the Chinese are. There's a word in Chinese '差不多 chabuduo' which can mean 'mediocre' and has been used to describe the lame level of Chinese state propaganda and surveillance: chabudwellian' (mediocre Orwellian). Look for example at how ineptly the recent Peng Shuai debacle was handled.

Neoliberal propaganda is a lot more cleverly done.

    See here for example:

    https://www.globalbuddhism.org/jgb/index.php/jgb/article/download/389/299

There is also a chapter on this, largely focused on the Koch brothers, in 'A Critique of Western Buddhism' by Glenn Wallis

Even just googling McMindfulness will bring up a lot of interesting stuff.
