Ahh thanks for clarifying that for me!
Still a good deal, especially if you wanted one of those controllers anyway. In the next sale you will be able to get Komplete for around 200$.

Oddity 2 and Minimonsta both down to £22.95
My pleasure.
I think the 259e is the best module that's available for Softube modular. There truly is nothing else that works in the same way and that's capable of the same rich variety of timbres. There's something about the architecture and UX that makes it hard to emulate with individual modules.
When you first start exploring the 259e, you can easily get the impression that it's only great for a particular sub-set of timbres, that can best be described as 1950's sci-fi soundtrack. But it's also capable of deeply musical timbres (as well as those typical 'experimental' flavours it's best known for).
I just wish Softube and Buchla would get on with recreating other famous Buchla fare in software form. 🤖🤖🤖
Are you saying that if I buy an M32 or one of the A series second hand right now, I will get the Select if the seller passes the reg code? Just making sure since there are a few of these available 2nd hand where I live.
Thanks for this. I watched the Starsky Carr video where he shows that the plug-in doesn’t really sound like a hardware Odyssey - except that to my ears it did. Or enough for me to stump up fifty worthless Australian dollars, anyway.
It’s an older plug-in and won’t work on Big Sur (but is ok on Monterey). No mention of Apple Silicon support so don’t expect that to ever happen.
Yeah they’re good synths. The only issue is whether they’ll continue to work on future OSes and how much the upgrade will be if they get apple silicon native upgrades. I can image they’ll need to be completely new versions as the code base is so old so might be fairly pricy upgrades. But at their current prices it’s not a problem. and they’re worth if for the presets. :-)
Cherry audio’s CA2600 and Quadra get close to the ARP flavour and are always on varying degrees of sale (not sure I’ve ever seen them being sold at ‘full’ price!) and are already M1 native. The odyssey was effectively a cut-down simplified 2600.
I think that the Minimonsta might be the cheapest minimoog clone on Mac at the moment. Stick a modelled vintage pre or eq after it (such as the Logic built in vintage EQ) add a touch of drive and it rounds out the edges very nicely and makes it sound a little less harsh and more vintage-ey.

Heavyocity is giving away the new Foundations Piano for free, looks good, sounds good, and works with the Kontakt Player
Not a deal (or a plugin!), but a very interesting new noise maker from Giorgio Sancristoforo called Bento. Pretty deep at first but rtfm and it starts to make sense. Like all his stuff it's not a plugin but audio can be routed to a DAW via virtual driver. Mac only at the moment and a time limited demo available...

Arturia V Collection 8 is only $149 till April 14th for Arturia customers.
https://www.arturia.com/experience-vc8?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=experience-vc8&utm_content=buy
I got an email about it, check it out if you’re interested. It’s certainly a great price.
It's a little more individual then that. 149$ is if you own Pigments I think. It starts at 249$ and goes down depending on what you already own. Previous V collection owners only pay 99$ for example.
I wrote to GForce about Apple Silicon support for impOSCar and Oddity2 and, to my surprise, they are hoping very much to add that ‘before Rosetta goes away’ - but no timeframe offered.
I bought both anyway because they are great but this is excellent news.
Thanks for this, I would not have known about this one. Looks cool.
I love this developer. I don’t have enough time to explore all his stuff, it spent a lot of time with Gleetchlab many years ago. Thanks for the heads up on Bento.
Not that I want to spend any more money on desktop synths, plus the conversion rate to AUD sucks, however… any thoughts on how this rate versus Syntronik (which I nabbed in the IK sale last year)?
Why did I read this thread this morning? Too good of a price and now I'm broke lol.
Spitfire Audio APEX sale is back! time to save 50%
There's a walk through video by Giorgio here:
It's very different. Syntronik is sampled, so there are definitely patches that sound "warmer" or more natural then the V Collection counterparts. On the other hand the V Collection is fully emulating the synths so you have every option, knob or fader of the original (sometimes even more).
Also, syntronik loads presets pretty slowly and is far less flexible when it comes to tweaking. It has some nice sounds but takes up a shit ton of GB.
It doesn’t sound bad, but you’re more at the mercy of the preset designers whims whereas won’t the arturia synths you can obviously tweak every parameter and I find it far easier to get the sound I want as a result.
Also, once you have the v collection the fx collection gets to be a bargain too — I recently got it with the new Elements granular fx for £100. I think I will find uses for almost all of the fx quite regularly. They’re very good indeed.
Overall I think that arturia have a slight edge over IK with the like for like products. I’m glad I have most of the IK stuff and some of it is truly excellent but so far I find the arturia stuff easier to find the sweet spot with.
Arturia have also released updates of all their products (for free) with apple silicon support.
I like the Ik multimedia stuff but I think I am even more impressed with Arturia. Also their installer/authoriser app doesn’t suck as badly as IKM’s :-/
