I didn’t really notice much change in CPU usage when closing the UI. Maybe on M1 chips the UI is rendered on the efficiency cores/GPUs.
I do remember that closing the UI reduced CPU usage on my old Intel MBP with some Plugins though.
I have 6 performance and 2 efficiency cores in my MBP and the CPU meter in Logic has six columns. Maybe Logic doesn’t use the efficency cores for audio threads…

Grabbed it. Happened to watch this great Dan Worrall video on it recently but didn’t want to drop $50. Thanks for sharing!
The IKM Syntronik 2 group buy is at 5 free now, which means it's over halfway to get the 11 extra S2 synths for the price of one for those of us who already got all the S1 ones in the last group buy 🙂
I got S1 in the group buy too. Do you think it is worth getting S2?
Well, it's M1 native and has 11 synths that S1 doesn't, on top of the same 22 it does. It also plays the S1 synths. These are the points of interest for me. Others may be excited by the fact that the new synths (and the new versions of the old synths) are editable in S2. I'm too simple for that one - just a preset player. 🤷
Paying 60-something euros (with tax) for getting 11 new synths sounds like a good deal for me, even if there are a few duds in there. If they end up with more for free that's a bonus. But I can't speak for you, of course. 🙂
BTW, another free one has since been achieved by the group buy. Consumers are great. 😀
I’m happy enough running the v1 synths in Sampletank 4 (or the free Syntronik 2 cs) to get M1 native performance but having said that, I don’t really use them that much — I prefer virtual synths to ROMPlers and I already have more virtual synths than I know what to do with. So it’s an easy pass for me.
If you use them a lot and like the sound of the S2 synths you don’t currently have them maybe they’re worth it. You can always cut the cost with jam points and IK gave away 20 extra points recently so you’ll get 30% off the first one.
You can get The Juno 60 S2 for free with last month’s computer Music magazine in the UK. You can get it easily if you can buy the digital version (or get it with a free moths trial of something like Readly) as you just need to look up a word on a specific page in the mag to unlock the content.
It unsurprisingly doesn’t qualify for the promotion though 🤣
Voltage Modular Ignite $19.99
https://audioplugin.deals/voltage-modular-ignite-by-cherry-audio/
Good upgrade over the free Nucleus if you like modular type stuff.
You can also get an upgrade to core + electro drums for 50% off at plugin boutique which works out less than if you buy it outright even at 50% off at PB:

Not new, but still a favorite (Its sound and patching reminds me of the Nord Modular/Cichlisuite)(Good intro to Pd).

I already got Syntronik 2 in last year‘s group buy but I never used it (I’m still busy understanding my new DAW Bitwig). Anyway, I’m a bit confused by the integrated shop. Some synths are labeled „Installed“ and others „Authorize“. Does that mean I already own all them but they are just not authorized? The funny thing that I can play these synths but they have only a few presets. Honestly I find the UX horrible and I really don’t get it.
As a synth it seems to be quite limited but hopefully it is less CPU hungry.
Pretty good deal since it's $50 on the Cherry Audio site.
you can design your own modules too... It's free for personal use.
https://cherryaudio.com/products/voltage-module-designer
Actually, it's a separate thing. It's a free download for personal use with Voltage, but a paid upgrade for a commercial license. Pretty cool either way.
https://cherryaudio.com/products/voltage-module-designer
And it's nice that Voltage Modular is now a free download. Theoretically one could download Voltage Modular and the personal use version of the module designer and basically get a whole modular system for the cost of their own time designing one.

With the group buy you got Syntronik 1 and you installed the demo for S2. That's why some synth have only a few presets.
Thank you. Now I understand. Just found out that with the May edition of Computer Music you can get the Syntronik J-60 for free. Here is the shortcut: https://futureplc.slgnt.eu/optiext/optiextension.dll?ID=PbkPiiQdcWnAO8CadBpUXnHziHY5D7fh2zSo0TU64zKN1iu5zQvG5EXE_51I2EX3x wcGQXLPAfqZ416lP
I don’t know if registering it gets you on the group buy. Didn’t try it yet. But honestly I don’t know if I want to. The full package (Syntronik 2 Max) would weigh 240 GB on your hard drive.
Update: it doesn’t make you eligible for the group buy
Update 2: Am I too stupid or this the way it should be? After registering and downloading the J-60 (1.9 GB) it unlocked a sounds download of 1.2 GB, I have now in total 5 presets 😂 for the J-60 and I could swear before I started I already had 2 presets for the J-60. I must do sth wrong otherwise I must wonder what they are smoking.
Those must be some very high-fidelity presets. 🤣
As for the size of S2 Max, you can deduct from that the size of S1 deluxe which you will not need going forward (if you currently have that installed), and then it's perhaps not that bad.
Alternatively, you can interpret this as a hint to start putting these libraries on an external drive.
I know I'm massively helping here. 🤝
I did mention the computer music freebie a few posts up, but alas it doesn’t (unsurprisingly) work with the group buy. I did manage to use some codes Id collected with last years group buy so mustn’t grumble ;-)
As for the missing presets, if you rescan the libraries within the settings screen from inside the plugin it should find them all.
Not sure what you did. I have tons of presets for j-60.
Hm if you buy into the group buy, will you be able to use all the functions of S2?
Yes, but only when you load the S2 versions of the synths. S2 does play S1 synths as well, but they are not editable.
Ah yea I get it, so I assume I would have to get one of the synths I have for S1 again in the group buy to have the new functions and presets. So if I decide to buy into that I probably should get the new synths first and then upgrade the old ones. Hm good question, I still have some jam points so it would cost me 41€ including tax to get in.
Yes, that’s the strategy. With one S2 synth available for free (see above in the thread), you get all the 11 new synths when the group buy gets to 9 free, which is bound to happen in a couple days. Then you just keep adding the refurbished S1 synths in your order of preference as new free slots become available.

I don't get these rompler synths like Syntronik 2, that are based on samples instead of emulating the real thing. When with the technology of today it's possible, see the impressive efforts by Plogue, GForce Software or to a lessen extent, Arturia.
Even if you're a preset player, these synths comes with much more presets and use cases. And even if you don't plan to do sound design, you can always use a defined preset and use LFO modulators in different parameters to create more vivid sounds.
The worst thing of these collections is that they always use the same classic synths, instead of including oddities and rarities that are not emulated by other manufacturers.
I will happily pay for something like Syntronik 2, but only including rare soviet synths.
Or for sampled versions of contemporary synths by manufacturers such as Soma or Dreadbox.
