I don‘t have that many synths for desktop and the NI Classic bundle caught my attention: MASSIVE, ABSYNTH5, FM8, and REPLIKA

    https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/81-Bundle/89-Complete-Collection/8026-KOMPLETE-Classics-Collection

They are all not Apple Silicon ready and I wonder if they ever will. I plan to buy a new Apple laptop. Would you say it’s worth to buy these synths in 2022?

This same bundle in Plugin Boutique was discounted until 50 euros the last month.

If you want to add some synths to your arsenal, a see a better deal to get Unfiltered Audio Lion and Knif Audio Knifonium for 30 euros, using this offer that is valid until tomorrow.

Use the code HAPPY49 to get both plugins for 49 euros. And then add the May loyalty voucher (which is the same for all the Plugin Alliance accounts), to obtain 20 euros of discount: 2022-04-25GS8P973iTw243

At the end of the day, you will pay 15 euros for each synth, and both of them are Apple Silicon native.

I purchased both of them and Lion is amazing, a modulation heaven. While Knifonium is one of the best sounding virtual analog synths, but with forgettable presets.

With the recent free plug-in offer and two for $30 (works out about £24 today) that's a pretty good selection of PA plug-ins for not much cash at all...

If you add a 'mastering' EQ to what you get with the free stuff, you'll have a 'mastering' compressor, a channel strip with TMT, a saturation fx and a 'mastering' plug-in which will cover the main mixing and mastering essentials -- for $30 and you still have another plug-in to choose such as an SSL Channel strip or townhouse bus compressor, SPL Iron compressor, or the Knifonium synth...

I think I've just talked myself into Knifonium and EQ200... Even though I absolutely don't need ANY more plug-ins!

Mind you, they cost about the same as Dominos pizza for two and won't clog your arteries, taste like shite and continue to remind you of the your error of your ways the following day every time you visit the bathroom...

Desktop Korg stuff on sale (Collection/Gadget etc)

    https://korg.shop/software.html

Good chance to get the Gadget Collection. I’m enjoying this so much. I like to use Gadget on my iPad on the go, best together with the nanoKeys Studio and then I export my track as Ableton Live Set and send it to my Mac. Then you can open it with Ableton or Bitwig and the project loads all the Gadget VSTs properly and the song sounds exactly the same as on the iPad.

I am interested to hear that the projects automatically load the Gadget VSTs as that could make it more sensible to invest in either Bitwig or Ableton rather than full desktop Gadget. I keep persuading myself not to buy Gadget on desktop as I bought the new Korg Collection and so have a number of the synths as part of that. I may try exporting a Gadget project to Ableton to see if it loads the Korg Collection version of, for example, Korg M1.

I exported a Gadget session that used Darwin and imported it into Bitwig. The MIDI was there but the plugin failed to load as it expected "Darwin" and saw that as different from the installed M1 from the KORG Collection. I did try hacking the als file to use the same plugin id as the M1 VST and this time the plugin did load but clearly the plugin state is different between the two plugins as the settings were not preserved.

Can You confirm if KORG updates plugins every time new expansion pack is released on ios?
I only want to know if all presets from ios are ported to win/mac plugins

I can’t say because I didn’t buy any expansion packs. Sorry. I can try to find out by looking at them.

Sound Particles Energy Panner is temporally free with this Sound on Sound promotion:

    https://lp.soundparticles.com/sos-freeplugin

It will create a panning stereo effect based in the intensity of the audio signal. This thing is amazing for sound design, I have tried some presets and it blew my head. It can convert even the most monotone sounds in a a psychedelic orgy.

Sadly, is not Apple Silicon native, but it works without problems under Rosetta.

yeah, that's a good one, just had it in my last session too, nice movement on the little wah wah guitar now

Right, I meant Triad. I hope you did nor search too long. I try to find some more creative plugins. I think regarding the bread & butter plugins i’m already covered by Bitwig’s plugins and what I got from the IKM group buy last year.

well, let's just say i may or may not have searched for just a bit longer than I feel comfortable to admit ;)

  • the Amek EQ 200 and Neold Warble here, not bad for a bit less than 30 €

  • Not software, but a screaming good deal on a 14" Windows laptop with a quad-core i5-1135G7, 16 GB RAM, and 512 GB SSD.
    $369.

    Black - https://www.walmart.com/ip/seot/654399212
    Sliver - https://www.walmart.com/ip/seot/982087215

I purchased one about a month ago for $499, and at the time it was the least expensive laptop with 16GB RAM, by about $400.
Free update to Win11, a few tweaks in Device Manager, etc. and it makes a ridiculously affordable DAW.
Currently typing this post, while my Akai Force is sequencing 21 VSTis hosted in Cakewalk, at 128 samples (w/ a Presonus Audiobox USB 96).

  • @Charlesalbert said:

Ouch! It is pretty heavy on CPU...

A very unscientific comparison with a chord playing back with Arturia Jup-8 V4 shows the CPU to be about double that of the Jup-8. (It's approx 15% of one core on a base MBP 14" with M1 Pro with 6 performance cores for the Jup, and 30-33% ish for Knifonium).

By comparison, an ES-2 instance (Logic built in synth) barely registers on the CPU graph.

I just wen through a few pad presets in each to make sure CPU use was representative but nothing more scientific than that.

So yeah. It's a bit of a hog but it does sound very rich, but you can replicate some of that by using something like PA HG-2 on another synth. Jup-8 V3 + HG-2 uses less CPU than Knofunium on its own.

I'm glad I got it though. Even though I've gone from having too many synths to having too many synths + 1 🤣

same here, way too many synths already, I didn't even try the Oberhausen yet which came for free lately (have the Knifonium too, used maybe twice)

Just bought knifonium. Wtf it killed my cpu running only one instance with mono.Goddamn my GAS:-)

Tried on Mac too. It is a little better then on Win 10.
Also if you run it and close the UI it helps a lot.
I really don’t know how the UI could hog cpu since it is nothing then static images😂😂😂
Said so it sounds good but nothing exceptional 😂😂😂

If someone bought it paired with Lion can feel the difference. Lion is epic. Infinite ways to program it and huge palettes of sounds.
