The developer was announcing their Kontakt library.
I know. And I will keep pushing developers here to make their iOS apps available on Apple’s M1 chip computers.
It’s not an iOS app, is it? It is a Kontakt library which is already compatible with Apple M1.
Most of Rob Jackson’s apps are iOS only. These iOS apps can be made available to M1 chip Apple computers. I have already amassed a library of iOS apps which function perfectly on desktop and I’ve been using them in the macOS version of GarageBand with no issues.
This cross-compatibility was a widely advertised feature of the Apple Silicon (M1) computers.
Look, I know you are thrilled with the current bonanza of Mac freebies while developers try to work out how the heck they are going to make any funds to support Macs as well. You are posting constantly about it. But in this instance can we at least congratulate Rob on releasing a cool Kontakt library that is also M1 compatible?
Hold on a minute. Developers have the option to make their iOS apps available on M1 computers. It’s not something that is “on” by default, so no one is getting cheated out of revenue. No additional work was done on the part of developers who chose to allow this cross-platform compatibility for their apps.
In fact, it is their option should they choose to do additional work to make the desktop version more fully featured OR if they want to make a different version of the app just for desktop at a different price point available through the macOS App Store.
Many developers (for example, IK Multimedia and Toneboosters) have chosen to only make desktop versions of their software available through their web site, which is a completely legitimate business decision, however I believe it also severely limits their market reach. Putting software on Apple’s App Stores makes it instantly downloadable AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, instantly able to be updated. The updating of IK Multimedia, Toneboosters, etc. software is a major inconvenience compared to App Store downloads.
Again, there’s nothing wrong with a developer choosing to use or not use Apple’s distribution and sales channels, but they aren’t making things easier or better for their customers. And I am exercising my rights as a customer when I give developers my opinion.
Since you’re not a developer, why are you bothering me about this?
OK, you make some fair points here. I find your constant M1 request in every thread irritating when I think developers are still working this whole Mac thing out. But that's my problem, not yours. I apologize for my tone.
No problem. I apologize for being the sole “evangelist” for this feature, but when I brought up in another post my list of currently iOS and macOS compatible apps, it was to help others take advantage of what I believe is an under-recognized feature and benefit of buying iOS apps when one also has an M1 computer. It has been a boon for my productivity and the developers should get more recognition for being ahead of the curve and for providing something extra for customers. This is a major selling point for these apps, and I hope it results in more sales for all of them. And not only that, it should spur more sales of M1 Macs and iPads, something which ensures we all continue to have the best possible platforms to make our music!
@yowza - it works with the Free Player 6.6.1 and above. I think Reuben did the video using his full version. Thanks for the interest.
Re iOS / macOS, I think / hope I explained in another thread the situation with my apps, i.e. it's not something in my case, I can simply flick a switch to enable macOS compatibility. There are other (Apple tech) issues at play I'm afraid.
FWIW, if / when I do another iOS app, I'll make sure it works on macOS / M1 from the get-go.
For the free one… I don’t have Kontakt, but I still downloaded and kept the wav files.
I look forward to a future app which works on both platforms!
No such thing. Let’s say Proud Plug Alert. 😁
Exactly, this is a forum where we actually like to hear about all the latest and greatest stuff.
Anyone use Sektor by Initial Audio? Worth $14.99?
https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/1-Instruments/4-Synth/4460-Sektor#a_aid=57ac3d39bf8f6&chan=GEN001
Exactly. Good luck with the IKM stuff, I should really take a stab at them, too. But at the moment I truly hate them: when you install T-Rack, they sneakily include the plugins you have not bought as well, so they appear in your DAW as available options, and when you select them you get a message that you can buy them first. What a crap vendor behaviour is that?
By the way, just hours after I recommended sonible to you they sent an email that their spring sale has started, should you be interested.
I agree about IK Multimedia needing to do a better job at distinguishing between an available and an unavailable plugin. Just look at this. Just a shade of difference.
Or allow us to HIDE all plugins not already purchased.
$14.99 sale price versus $139.00? Hmm...
Curious about Sektor - it can load WAV samples and multisamples too.
Have you tried the $5 wavetable synth by SoundSpot called 'Union'? https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/1-Instruments/4-Synth/5824-Union
There's a $5 bundle with it too. https://www.pluginboutique.com/product/81-Bundle/82-Plugin-Boutique-Bundle/8826-3-Plugins-for-5-5-5
Don't have Serum.
Really? That‘s awful. I think I didn’t notice that because I got virtually all their T-Racks plugins with the 25th anniversary deal. But I noticed a similar thing in the Arturia client app. I installed things that were available in the app but when loading them in my DAW they didn’t work because I have no license. That is really annoying. There should be a strict separation between store and purchased items.
The sonible plugins look really cool. What do you think? How do they compete with Fab Filter plugins?
It’s a pain but you can move the ones you don’t want to see to somewhere else. Make an unused plugins folder or just delete them.
Go to your plugins folder- MAC HD> Library > Audio > Plugins > Components folder or VST folder etc…
I have most of the IK plugins and only keep to be able to open old sessions where I used the IK stuff. Not a fan.
Of course when you update they will all be back for you to do this all over again but your plug-in menus will be less annoying. UAD makes it so easy to do this in their app. I hate seeing plugins I don’t own in my lists.
re: IKM - I use Logic, where I can manually hide all the plugins IKM has installed without me buying them. Only need to do that once, so it is not a big deal to rectify, but the behaviour and intentions of the vendor are obviously bad, they should stop doing this.
re: Sonible - they have proper trial versions, so best if you try and see for yourself. What I can say though is that you don't need an electron microscope for sonible's UI... Jokes aside, they work very differently. FabFilter offers you fantastic possibilities if you know what you are doing and are willing to do it, but it doesn't do it for you. OTOH Sonible listens to your stuff and proposes settings accordingly (which you can then modify or ignore if you want to). What Sonible does is what I am looking for.
The price for an EQ/reverb/compressor/limiter package is also quite... ...different for the two brands, so while I own the FF bundle for iOS I would not contemplate it for the Mac. Given my "skillz", it would be totally unjustified.

Doug's video:
Thank you for the plug. I bought it, put it in Kontakt, and was instantly amazed at how beautiful the included sounds are. The multis are just wonderful. And I haven't even started putting in my own samples, which I'm hoping will open up a whole new use case.
Thanks for this app, especially at what is an iOS price even without the promo.
Thanks so much! Very much appreciate the kind words. Great to hear you're enjoying Synthetic Materials.
In case you hadn't seen, there's a growing collection of free sample downloads to have a play with here:
https://www.waverley-instruments.com/downloads
The sequencer is kinda weird, but you can do some pretty funky stuff if you're into random probability type fun
Ha. The gift that keeps on giving. I didn't know about these samples, will check them out. Thank you!
Could you list all of your app web sites here for everyone? I never realized you had another app-only site so I've only been going to your main one. Thanks.
I had a few dedicated sites for my iOS apps, but to be honest they weren't getting much traffic - most of it was coming from the App Store, FB or YT, but I guess this is the main one for iOS:
https://www.touchscaper.com
I started up Waverley Instruments last year as a dedicated desktop plugin brand.
Ummmmm awesome, didn’t know there were some free ones available, cheers.
Are all those free? And do they contain wav files, samples to use anywhere, or are they made specifically for your apps?
Yep, they're free and the sample files are just WAVs. There are also NKS snapshots which are specific to Synthetic Materials / KONTAKT, but the WAV files should work with any sampler that can map C and F# notes and set up loop points / xfades. Note the samples themselves don't contain looping info.
The terms of use are fairly relaxed / fair and outlined on the downloads page:
LEGAL STUFF
You are free to use these samples and sequences (where applicable) on a royalty-free basis for commercial and non-commercial projects.
While the samples were designed to be used with Synthetic Materials, you are free to use them with other sample-based instruments on any platform.
You may NOT re-package the samples, sell and / or re-distribute them and claim them as your own work. However, you are free to share these samples in online communities, such as pianobook for example with the courtesy condition that you credit Waverley Instruments as the original source of the samples.
Very generous. Nice.
